Where To Stay When Visiting Disney World

Disneys Polynesian Village Resort

Top 10 Tips Visiting Disney World for the First Time

One of two Disney World hotels dating back to the theme park resort’s opening day 50 years ago, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a guest favorite, loved for its Polynesian-inspired design and proximity to Magic Kingdom Park. The Polynesian Village Resort has great dining options: Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto serves up tiki drinks with a touch of Disney magic, Dole Whips are available at Pineapple Lanai, and guests rave about the breakfast and dinner at ‘Ohana. Visiting the theme parks is easy thanks to the Deluxe hotel’s monorail stop, and you can even spot the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach. Recent additions include overwater bungalows and new “Moana”-themed guest rooms.

Choose The Best Time To Visit Disney World

Choosing the best time to visit Disney World is an important decision. The best time to visit Disney on a budget is in the offseason when prices of accommodation, flights and park tickets are lower and the parks are less crowded. Late January and early February are usually the cheapest times to visit.

If at all possible, avoid school and public holidays. The busiest times are June to August , Christmas/ New Year, and Thanksgiving.

In recent years October has also become a busy month as the weather is ideal, and there are Halloween celebrations and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, but I would still visit at this time of year.

Spring Break in April is another busy time, but we have visited twice in April just after Easterit wasnt too crowded and the weather was hot.

Our last trip was in November, 10 days before Thanksgiving and it was fine, although it was busier on the Saturday before Thanksgiving . The weather was mostly hot with two surprisingly cool days .

I recommend having a rough idea of the time you can visit Disney and then checking this ranking of the best weeks to visit Disney. Usually their top pick is to arrive on one of the first three Saturdays after Thanksgiving .

However, 2021 is different because many people are deferring Disney vacations until later in the year and Disney Worlds 50th anniversary celebrations started on October 1, 2021.

The anniversary celebrations will continue for 18 months into 2023.

Visiting Disney World During Covid

Visiting Disney World during Covid is such a personal decision but I thought sharing our experience and questions we asked ourselves would help in the decision making process. Here are our tips for visiting Disney during Covid and how we felt during our recent Disney visit.

I wasnt really sure I was going to write this article because making a decision to visit Disney World during Covid is so personal. There are a lot of questions that only you can ask yourself.

Ultimately I decided to share my opinion and experience to help you determine your comfort level visiting Disney in 2021.

This trip, like most Disney World vacations, was planned well in advance. Not only were we visiting Disney World for a week we were also planning a Disney World trip with a large family. There were 11 of us total and we had to make decisions as a group.

When we booked the trip in early April we thought cases would be low and we wouldnt have to worry too much about Covid.

We had returned from an Orlando trip in May and felt comfortable visiting, little did we know things would change a lot between May and August.

As we started to watch the cases rise and change in Central Florida I went into panic mode. I am a planner, which shouldnt be much of a surprise given I write a travel blog, and I analyze and research things until I feel like I am making the right decision.

Island life meets pirate life at Disneys Caribbean Beach Resort, one of the best moderate-level Disney World hotels. Disneys Caribbean Beach Resort has a fantastic Fuentes del Morro pool themed like a Spanish fortress with a waterslide, shipwreck play area, and pirate water cannons.

Other activities for kids include bike rentals, a daytime pirate cruise for ages four to 12, and an evening mystery cruise for ages 10 to 16. Disneys Skyliner gondola system provides easy access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, and bus service provides transportation to the other theme parks.

Staying In A Disney Resort

The Best (+ Worst) Times to Visit Disney World The ...

Unfortunately, changes Disney made in 2020 and 2021 have reduced the advantages for on-site guests, but there are still some.

  • Accommodation is more expensive , but you can save on transport and tickets .
  • Free shuttle buses between resorts and parks so you dont need to rent a car or pay for parking. From 2022 you will need to pay for transport from the airport.
  • Resort guests can enter all parks 30 minutes early every day. This is especially useful for popular rides like Avatar at Animal Kingdom and the Star Wars rides at Hollywood Studios.
  • In addition, guests at Deluxe Resorts will be able to stay late at some parks on select days.
  • You can book Individual Lightning Lanes at 7am .
  • You can make restaurant reservations 60 days before you check-in plus up to 10 days of your trip . This is useful if you want to eat in a popular restaurant like Cinderellas Royal Table.
  • Packages purchased in park stores can be delivered to your resort.

If you do decide to stay in a Disney resort, the cheapest options are Disney Value Resorts including the various All Star Resorts and Pop Century.

Pop Century is generally considered slightly better, but the cheapest one available when we booked was All Star Music, which has a standard rate of $161 plus tax per night. In low season there are discounted rates.

Our room at All Star Music was similar to the basic motel rooms we usually book off-site with two double beds, an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, free wifi, TV, and a mini-fridge .

Best Place To Stay In Disney World 2021

What is the best place to stay in Disney World Resorts for 2021? Things are constantly changing in Disney World and it is important to keep up to date.

Your choice of Walt Disney World Resort impacts significantly upon your vacation experience. So knowing what your best options are for Disney World Hotels is essential.

A lot has happened at Walt Disney World recently. Disney has opened up a new Disney Vacation Club resort and expanded an existing moderate resort.

In addition, they made a substantial change to a whole section of Walt Disney Worlds complimentary Transportation System. The new Disney Skyliner transports guests across the sky from select resorts to Epcot and Disneys Hollywood Studios.

This is great if you want to take advantage of a new, more direct line of transit. Especially from some of the resorts that used to be among the least convenient locations.

On the other hand, there are drawbacks. The Skyliner is not for everyone. If you dont like heights or confined spaces it may be a problem.

Although all of the Disney World hotel resorts still have complimentary bus transportation, resorts with Skyliner stations are reducing the frequency of stops in 2020.

Therefore, unless you really know you are going to be fine with the Skyliner, you should probably avoid hotels with this as their primary transportation option.

Best Moderate Disney World Resorts

Moderate resorts at Disney World represent something of a challenge when it comes to vacation planning. Accommodations at some of these properties are certainly better than the Value resorts , but they tend not to have immersive themes like those priced both above and below this tier.

But, as always, there are standouts in every category. Prices at Disney Moderate resorts often cost between $200 and $400 per night.

Disney World Crowds In 2022

The major question for 2022 crowds at Disney World is the balance between Disneys practical capacity, affected by staffing, its offered capacity though its theme park reservation system, and the effectiveness and usage of the new tools Disney World is offering that might let one avoid crowds, such as its paid line-skipping offerings and its daily early entry options for guests in eligible hotels. While I couldand probably willsay a lot more about these, frankly there is not enough experience yet, especially with the paid line-skipping offerings, to make sensible judgments.

On the premise that whatever effect all these have, they will somewhat work over the course of the 2022, I offer the following observations:

Early January 2022 will be busy through the first weekend, but better after then, with the Martin Luther King holiday weekend being the next worst dates in the month.

Presidents Day, February 21 in 2022, is as late as it can possibly be. The week that includes Presidents Day will be bad as usual. Crowds for this holiday week actually begin the Thursday before. For some reason, the weekend before Presidents Daythrough Monday February 14this blocked out in the least expensive of Disneys newest Annual Passes. I can speculate about this, but honestly dont know why the weekend of the 12th is blocked off. Until more specifics emerge, Id avoid that weekend as well.

Questions About Disney Resort Accommodations Vacation Packages & Discounts

Where Should You Stay When You Visit Walt Disney World?

Jump to:

When will new Disney resort discounts become available?

We wish we knew! The resort and vacation package discounts are somewhat unpredictable. Only Disney knows when the next ones will come out. We have no crystal ball we cant predict what Disney may decide to do.

However, you can get a general idea of the historical trends. To assist you in planning future trips for which discounts have not yet been released, check out our chart of release dates for the deepest discounts .

In addition, here are some general observations about future discount availability:

When offered, room only discounts for the general public, Annual Passholders and Florida residents are usually relatively last-minute. Dont expect to get a big discount way in advance typically the discounts are released 2-4 months in advance. Sometimes the discounts are restricted to certain resorts or room types.

Vacation package discounts are sometimes released a little earlier, but seldom more than 6 months in advance.

Naturally, Disney only offers discounts on its resorts when it has a significant number of rooms to fill. Therefore the most popular dates and resorts are typically not discounted.

Some additional observations:

When will next years Disney resort room rates or vacation package prices be released?

Is it possible to use more than one discount for the same Disney resort reservation?

Extinct Benefits & Drawbacks

FastPass Booking Windows There has been a lot of outrage about the paid Genie+ line-skipping service, which is Walt Disney Worlds paid replacement to free FastPass+. This is particularly understandable among Deluxe Resort guests and Disney Vacation Club members, who now may be wondering what, exactly, theyre getting for the exorbitant amounts of money theyre spending to stay at Walt Disney World.

However, one key thing thats frequently overlooked is the positive impact for off-site guests. Previously, the on-site booking window for FastPass+ meant that anyone not booking ~60 days in advance got shut out of the most popular ride reservations unless they devoted significant time to constantly refreshing in search of cancellations. By the 30 day mark when off-site guests could book, all of the best options were gone that would save considerable time, leaving mostly the consolation prize FastPasses that were often pointless.

Genie+ and Lightning Lanes make it much easier to justify spending less money to stay off-site. There is no on-site advantage in booking Lightning Lane reservations via Genie+ and even the benefit for booking Individual Lightning Lanes is minimal and usually unnecessary. You can thus book off-site and reallocate the savings towards spending $16 per person on Genie+ each dayor on just Magic Kingdom and Disneys Hollywood Studios days, which is really where its most necessary and useful.

Walt Disney Worlds Swan Dolphin And Swan Reserve Resorts

Smack dab in the middle of the Disney World property are the Disney Swan and Dolphin resorts, both of which belong to the . A third forthcoming hotel tower, Swan Reserve, will be opening very soon in 2021.

These Category 6 resorts range from a little over $100 to nearly $400 per night, depending on the season, or from 40,000 to 60,000 Marriott points per night.

On nights when the rate is 50,000 points per night or less, you can use a available at hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy program and certain hotels have resort fees with the .

And breakfast benefits are offered to top-tier elites, with a complimentary continental breakfast available. You can pay a small fee to upgrade to the full breakfast buffet. During normal times, its the only place we know where your gets you a character breakfast with Chip, Dale and Pluto.

In recent years, both the Swan and Dolphin hotels also have much-improved grab-and-go options in the lobby.

Transportation Options Outside Disney Resorts

Meanwhile, visitors who aren’t staying at Disney World have a couple of options. Most non-Disney resorts offer free shuttles to the theme parks, but typically these shuttles run just a few times a day. Visitors probably won’t be able to return to their resort mid-day to give little kids some nap-time or a pool break, which is a good strategy during a hot day in the theme parks. And at night, guests need to return to the right bus parking lot and locate the right bus, out of many, for their resort.

Alternatively, guests could drive their own vehicle to a theme park in their morning, which may get the day off to a quick start. The end of the day may be more complicated: guests who’ve park-hopped using the Disney Bus system will need to get back to where they parked the car.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Checking into Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa feels like stepping into a seaside Victorian resort . This lovely Deluxe resort is just one stop away from Magic Kingdom Park on the monorail, and you can see the nighttime fireworks or the Electrical Water Pageant for a magical end to a day at the theme parks. From the resort, you can walk to the Magic Kingdom, hop on the monorail to Epcot, or grab the buses to the other Disney parks. There are several dining options, including a “Beauty and the Beast”-themed lounge, Enchanted Rose, plus pools, a spa, and more.
