What Is Disney Memory Maker

To first understand Disney Memory Maker, youll need to understand PhotoPass. PhotoPass is a service offered at the Disney Parks where photographers take photos of guests in the parks, by request.

If you see one of the Disney PhotoPass photographers, you can approach them , pose for a photo, and have them scan your MagicBand. Those photos will be uploaded into your My Disney Experience account.

Youll find Disney PhotoPass photographers by popular spots at the theme parks , as well as by character greetings. In addition to the PhotoPass photographers, youll also have ride photos taken at some of the most popular attractions.

These PhotoPass photo downloads are available for individual purchase by guests. But with a Memory Maker package, youll get all of your photo downloads for one price. This can be a great way to save money on your Disney vacation but is only worthwhile if you plan to actually take photos.

Even though many of us take our own photos on vacation, using PhotoPass is still a great idea. It can often be the only way to get the whole family in the picture.

To make sure the photos are linked, youll provide your MagicBand or card to the Disney PhotoPass photographer. For ride photos, they will be automatically linked in some cases, or youll need to tap your band under the ride photo to get it added.

Walt Disney World Memory Maker Review: Worth It Or Waste Of Money

Disney offers a lot of ways to upgrade your vacation. Some of these extras offer a lot of value, but many of them just tempt you to blow your vacation budget. Today, well take a look at one of several optional Disney services Memory Maker to see if it passes the test.

Memory Maker is a fairly common add-on purchase that many Disney guests make. But is it worth it? Ill reveal my own personal bias, as Ive almost always purchased Memory Maker or its equivalent Photopass service on all my Disney vacations . That said, it isnt right for every trip or every family.

First things first: what is Memory Maker? Memory Maker is the next generation of Disneys PhotoPass service. Memory Maker is currently only available at Walt Disney World. Disneyland still offers Photopass and Photopass+.

Heres how Memory Maker works. Youve probably seen Disney photographers staked out at strategic locations like in front of Cinderella Castle or at character meet and greets. While these photographers are happy to take a photo for you using your camera, they also will take photos with their cameras and then electronically add them to your PhotoPass account. You can either use a PhotoPass card or your Magic Band to keep track of photos in your account. Families can link multiple Magic Bands or cards to a single account, so larger groups like extended family traveling together can share the cost.

How Do I Get My Memory Maker Photos

All photos that are attached to any media affiliated with your MyDisneyExperience account will appear on your account. This includes any photos from people whose profiles you manage or any people on your Friends and Family list.

The One-day Memory Maker is activated when you use your ticket, so you will only be able to download photos taken on that day. If you have a single-day ticket with the Water Park Fun & More option, the Memory Maker will still be activated on first useeven if that first use is at a water park where there are no PhotoPass photographers. If you plan to visit one of the Water Park Fun & More visits first, add the One-day Memory Maker later.

The Memory Maker is active 30 days after your first download. Because PhotoPass photos do not expire for 45 days, you can theoretically download photos from a 75-day time period: from 45 days before your first download to 30 days after. Is It Worth It

We think Memory Maker is worth it for people who:

  • Have trips that are at least 5 days in length
  • Plan to ride most/all of the rides that offer ride photos
  • Will be eating at the locations that have PhotoPass photographers
  • Are willing to stop and get plenty of PhotoPass pics taken in the parks
  • Have special events such as Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique booked since lots of pics are taken there
  • Will be meeting lots of characters, since PhotoPass photographers take lots of pics of these encounters, including both candid and posed shots

You dont have to be doing all of the items above, but at least a few of them should be true for your trip to make sure you get plenty of pics.

Memory Maker Is Worth It For:

1. Big groups: For extended family traveling together, Memory Maker is a relative deal. You can link all your Magic Bands under the same account and share the cost. Its a great way to get everyone in the picture as well.

2. Memory keepers: Some Disney visitors just really enjoy documenting and scrapbooking their every Disney moment. If you having lots of photos and especially enjoy making cutesy additions , Memory Maker probably makes sense for your traveling family.

3. Convenience lovers: Theres a lot to be said for having someone else carry the camera and do the work of taking all your photos. When Im juggling a toddler, the last thing I need to do is bring my fancy DSLR camera along with me every time I head into a Disney park. It adds to the bulk. Knowing I can rely on the Disney Photopass photographers and their equally nice cameras allows me to cut down on what Im carrying. The convenience factor is big.

4. Ride junkies: The real advantage of Memory Maker over the old Photopass options is that it includes photos and sometimes even videos of your group on the rides. These are often some of the best of the bunch . If you want to preserve these ride memories, Memory Maker is a great deal.
