What To Do At Disney World

Have A Disney Photoshoot

50 Things in Disney World Everyone Should Do At Least ONCE!

If you dont have a photo of it happening, did it ever really happen? Thanks to Disneys Capture Your Moment photo sessions, youll never have to worry about that on your Disney World vacation again. Available at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, these private 20-minute photoshoots take place in front of some of Disney Worlds most iconic locations and are the perfect way to commemorate your engagement, honeymoon or any special occasion.

Stop For A Disney Day Time Show

All the parks have shown. And yet, loads of people just pass them by! They are so worth stopping for. We like the Animal Kingdom dancing parties in the Oasis and Harambe for something different. You can also catch the show at Cinderellas Castle at Magic Kingdom which usually happens around noon or the impromptu shows that pop up all over Epcot and Hollywood Studios throughout the day. All are good, hilarious and really all you have to do is stop and enjoy them.

Enjoy Live Entertainment In Canada

Canada, the first pavilion youll encounter if you enter the World Showcase from the right, is often home to live entertainment and bands playing Canadian folk music.

Take a moment to stop and listen, especially around the holidays, as its a great way to start your journey around the World Showcase.

It’s Fun To Search For The Wandering Characters In Galaxy’s Edge

One of my favorite things about being in Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios is how it actually feels like you’re in a galaxy far, far away.

There are even characters roaming around the land who walk alongside the guests. You never know whom you’re going to run into, from Rey and Chewbacca to Kylo Ren and the stormtroopers.

It makes every interaction unpredictable, and I’m always excited to see what’s going to happen next time I visit.

Magic Kingdom Must Dos

25 Ultimate Things to Do at Walt Disney World Fodors Travel Guide
#1. Ride Space Mountain

Youre doing yourself a disservice if you leave Magic Kingdom without riding on Space Mountain. Its dark, its fast, and its a lot of fun. Its also one of Disneys most iconic rollercoasters and its definitely one youll want a FastPass for! Check out our Magic Kingdom FastPass guide and ride ranking to get some important tips for that.

#2. Watch Disney Enchantment fireworks show

Disney Enchantment was just introduced on October 1, 2021 and it is unlike any other fireworks show youve ever seen inside Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Not only are the fireworks timed perfectly with epic music, but there are intricate projections animated on the Cinderella Castle for you to enjoy. Going a step further, you can also watch projections and glittering lights on the buildings on Main Street, U.S.A during the show.

#3. Eat a Dole Whip at Aloha Isle

Ah, the legendary Dole Whip. Trust me, its worth the hype. Its one of the best desserts youll find at Disney World and its a borderline crime not to have one. Getting a Dole Whip is often my first course of action when entering the park.

#4. Ride Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain is hard to beat. It has going for it, from the numerous animatronics to the iconic drop at the end of the ride. Its also one of the longest rides, lasting for over 10 minutes. This is a Disney World classic and shouldnt be skipped.

#5. Eat at Be Our Guest
#6. Ride Pirates of the Caribbean
#7. Watch Country Bear Jamboree

When To Visit In 2022

Above all things, deciding when to visit Disney World is the most important decision you have to make when planning your trip.

Factors such as crowds, price, weather, and special events should all be taken into consideration when choosing your dates. Unfortunately for some, its not always up to us to decide. If you have children in school, you might be forced to only choose dates during the holidays or summer break, and those can be the worst times to visit.

Lets look at some of the factors, meanwhile, our post on The Best Times to Visit Disney World goes into more depth.

Eat By Atmospheric Candlelight At San Angel Inn

In the Mexico pavilion, theres an indoor area that is actually themed to feel as if you are outdoors in Mexico, and thats where San Angel Inn comesin.

Right up next to the Three Caballeros boat ride, you can sit by the water and watch the boats go by while dining on Mexican food by candlelight, all the while feeling as if youre actually outdoors.

In addition to the ride, there are shops and street market style kiosks within this indoor area, giving it some great atmosphere and making for a memorable meal.

Play A Free Disney Game

Our favorite part of Disney vacations usually involves the fun free Disney games you can play around the parks. Ducktales World Showcase Adventure in Epcot is a spy game that shows you secret places around Epcot with hidden features that interact with you once your phone is in range. Treasures of the Caribbean is at Magic Kingdom and can be played with different treasure maps to earn free fast passes to Pirates of the Caribbean. Hidden Pascals and Hidden Mickeys are absolute favorites of ours.

Things To Do At Disney World Besides The Parks

11 Things You Should NEVER Do in Disney World

You visit Disney World for the parks, but there are many things to do at Disney World besides the parks that are worth adding to your Disney World vacation. This is our list of family favorites for a non-park day at Disney World.

This post may contain affiliate links.

Walt Disney World is famous for the theme parks. Each one is unique and worth a visit during your Disney vacation, but they can be exhausting.

One of my best tips is to plan a rest day at Walt Disney World. This allows you to explore the Walt Disney World resort activities at your resort, sleep in, and spend time by the pool.

Reel In A Good Time With A Little Fishing At Disney World

Between all the parks, resorts, and parking lots, Disney World is speckled with bodies of water, from the massive Seven Seas Lagoon to the winding Sassagoula River. And best of all, many of them are stocked with fish largemouth bass, to be precise! Charter a guided fishing excursion for the complete angler experience, or grab a line and pole for some old-fashioned dockside fishing on Ol Man Island at Port Orleans Riverside.

Book The Most Ridiculously Expensive Rooms At Disney World

Or you could plus-up your experience and book some of the most awesome and expensive rooms at Disney World, like The Polynesian Villa Bora Bora Bungalows at Disneys Polynesian Village Hotel, which start at around $2,000 per night. But these rooms can sleep eight people, include private plunge pools, and have amazing views.

Bora Bora Bungalows

Or you could go for something more rustic like the Treehouse Villas at Disneys Saratoga Springs Resort. Those start at around $1,000 per night, so you could spend around four nights there if you wanted. And there are so many other awesome rooms you could choose!

Eat Or Drink Around The World

One of the most popular ways to celebrate your birthday at Disney World for those over 21 is to head to Epcot and take part in the drinking around the world challenge, which can also be adapted to eating around the world.

For the challenge, you have to get a drink and/or a snack in each World Showcase country, and you spend the whole day working your way around and enjoy Epcot that way.

Its a fun way to explore the World Showcase while having a celebration, and as long as you stay respectful of other guests and are of age, its highly recommended!

Walt Disney World Is Huge

25 Ultimate Things to Do at Walt Disney World Fodors Travel Guide

If youve done any amount of research, you probably know that Walt Disney World is the big place in Florida and Disneyland is the little place in California.

It bears reiterating: Walt Disney World is HUGE. Its located on 25,000 acres, has 24 hotels, 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, and more other stuff beyond the parks than you can shake a stick at. On the one hand, its awesome to have so many different great things to do.

You could easily visit for 2 weeks and not run out of things to dothe options beyond theme parks, from fishing to golfing to spas and more are staggering. On the other hand, because there is much, the distance between hotels and parks, parks and other entertainment, etc. can be fairly substantial. Walt Disney World is not a place that you can cover on foot.

The other consequence of this is in terms of time. Whether you rent a car or use Disneys free transportation, you are going to spend a lot of time during your trip commuting. The best case scenario, if you only visit one park per day and rent a car, puts your total commute time at an hour.

If you park hop and use Disney transportation, you might spend 3 or more hours per day commuting. Yes, all of those options are great, but the time it takes to get from one of them to another is not. We have a post dedicated to Walt Disney World Transportation Tips that can help you take shortcuts to save time with Disneys transportation system.

Let Your Cares Float Away During A Disney World Boat Ride

The Monorail and Skyliner may get most of the love , but theres another kind of free Disney transportation that is just as enjoyable. From water taxis to friendship boats, Disney water transportation ferries guests to and from destinations across Disney World property including Disney Springs, all four theme parks, Disneys BoardWalk, and several resorts. Although taking a Disney World boat ride isnt as speedy as the Monorail or Skyliner, it is a relaxing, and usually less busy, way to get around with especially lovely views.

Watch A Disney Parade

The Festival of Fantasy at Magic Kingdom is the quintessential Disney parade combining many characters, fun songs and some extra fire-breathing magic. There are others, however, that you will no doubt catch by surprise throughout your time at the parks. Be sure to stop and watch. Some people line up an hour or more before the parades to get the best spots, so theyre definitely worth your time. And if you ever get a chance, make sure the Disney Halloween Parade is a must-see.

The Best Of The Rest At Epcot

In Future World you can follow Nemo on The Seas and visit the aquarium afterwards. Living with the Land and Journey into Imagination are also worth doing.

In the afternoon, heading over to World Showcase is a must do Disney experience.

You dont have to worry about queues herejust make your way around the different countries, eat and drink your way around the world, and pop into any of the shows that take your fancy.

Impressions de France is very pretty. The American Adventure is also a must-see.

Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistance

30 Things the Disney World Pros Do

Hollywood Studios most popular ride , is in the new Star Wars land.

This immersive, interactive ride takes you to the distant planet of Batuu where you join the Resistance in an epic battle against the First Order.

We havent ridden it yet, but its supposed to be Disneys most ambitious ride yet, and were very excited to experience it.

You used to only be able to ride this using the virtual queue on the Disney app, but there is now a regular standby line . Its currently quietest in the evenings.

Dining In Animal Kingdom

  • The Yak n Yeti is one of our favorite places to eat in this park it serves delicious Asian food and cocktails.
  • If you want to see some Disney characters during your meal, dont skip the best buffet at Tusker House, featuring Mickey and Minnie in safari gear and the popular jungle juice my kids are obsessed with.

Go Beneath The Magic Kingdom In The Parks Underground Utilidor Tunnels

One of the longtime legends of Magic Kingdom is that underground tunnels run below the sprawling theme park like a labyrinth. Though the tunnels technically arent Magic Kingdoms basement , you can explore this backstage area during some of the Disney World backstage tours.

Keys to the Kingdom is made for Magic Kingdom fans, taking guests behind the scenes at some of the parks most classic attractions and, of course, the Magic Kingdom Utilidor tunnels. Or, for true Disney fanatics with a bunch of spare time, Backstage Magic takes guests into the Utilidors and beyond for this seven-hour adventure.

Get Crafty At A Disney Resort Art Class

We dont know about you, but we love a good Disney drawing class. Theres something special about sketching out a character like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck under the guidance of a Disney animator. Fortunately, those simple pleasures can also be found outside the parks during a Disney resort art class. From Mickey tie-dye to instructor-led painting classes, youre sure to find an artsy activity to unleash your inner Van Gogh . Look for Disney resort art classes at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Saratoga Springs, Art of Animation, Coronado Springs, and Port Orleans French Quarter. Talk to the front desk about current class and design offerings.

Listen To A Concert At Disney Springs

25 Ultimate Things to Do at Walt Disney World Fodors Travel Guide

There are nine different spots at Disney Springs where you can see live music performances. Some of the venues you can walk up to like the AdventHealth Waterside Stage in front of the World of Disney shop that regularly hosts bands and the small stage outside of the Raglan Road restaurant that regularly plays Celtic. Others, like the House of Blues, have live entertainment inside the restaurant.

Watch The Fireworks From The Contemporary

  • 50

What do you do if its raining at Disney World during the fireworks? Do you stand out in the rain and get soaking wet? Absolutely not!

If the fireworks are still happening, but its too rainy for you to want to wait around outdoors , walk from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary resort and head to the walkway in between the main Contemporary tower and Bay Lake Tower. You can also take a bus or boat from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary if you don’t want to walk, with the bus being preferable for the heavy rain as the boat may not be operating.

From this walkway with glass sides, you have a beautiful view of the fireworks, and they pipe in the music, so you stay completely dry and still have the fireworks experience.

There are other places to watch the fireworks from the Contemporary, but none as covered and safe from the rain unless you manage to get a reservation to California Grill, the restaurant on top of the Contemporary.

Changes At Disney World

Much has changed since our last visit to Disney World, although things are gradually returning to normal and all the top rides are open. Check the Disney website for the latest details.

The main restrictions currently are:

  • You must make a reservation to visit a park using the Disney Park Pass Reservation System on their website.
  • Masks are required indoors, on attractions, and on transportation, regardless of vaccination status.
  • FastPasses have been replaced with a new system .
  • Extra Magic Hours have been replaced with Early Theme Park Entry, which gives Disney Resort guests a 30-minute early entry to each park every day.
  • Parades and some attractions are currently suspended.
  • Some restaurants are temporarily closed.
  • Fireworks resumed on July 1 at Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT.

Unwind With A Nightcap At A Disney Bar

Once upon a time, alcohol in Disney World was hard to come by. Now, aside from the Magic Kingdom, you can hardly turn the corner in a Disney park or at Disney Springs without bumping into a stand serving up boozy Disney drinks and we are not complaining. No matter if youre in the mood for cocktails, beer, or wine, there are plenty of places to go around Walt Disney World if youre looking for a stiff drink. Trader Sams Grog Grotto serves up a kitschy tiki bar atmosphere at the Polynesian Village, while the open-air Geyser Point Bar & Grill on the Wilderness Lodge waterfront is a great place to take in the Electrical Water Pageant as it floats past. Or, for a truly special Disney World experience, head on over to Port Orleans. Sip on a Louisiana beer at Riversides River Roost which plays host to the laugh-out-loud antics of Yehaa Bob or snack on some boozed-up beignets as you listen to live jazz music in Scat Cats Club at French Quarter.

Where To Eat At Magic Kingdom

Things to do at Disney World Without a Park Ticket! | Walt Disney World Trip Planning

Were only eaten at the cheaper quick service restaurants at Magic Kingdom.

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn in Frontierland is our top pick for eating at Disney World on a budget as they have a huge free toppings bar where you can liven up your meal with salsas, cheese, jalapeƱos, pickles, and lettuce.

The veggie nachos and veggie rice bowl with beans and vegetables are pretty tasty once youve added the toppings. Save time by ordering on the Disney app.

Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square is another good option. We enjoyed the hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich and vegetarian chilli.
