This popular attraction launches riders into outer space via rocket-esque cars. The roller coaster takes place in the dark and uses trick lighting to create a feeling of flying through space. Around Halloween, the ride gets the “Ghost Galaxy” overlay, sending riders through haunted outer space. An actual astronaut was on the design team for the attraction to ensure it felt realistic.

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros

The Gran Fiesta Tour is a simple boat ride through the pyramid in the Mexico pavilion in EPCOT. It takes you on a journey with Panchito Pistoles and José Carioca in search of Donald Duck. There are no thrills here and the special effects are low-tech, but it is a relaxing ride that lets you soak up some of the Mexican culture.

We wouldnt be surprised if this is eventually replaced by something Coco-themed, but until then well keep enjoying this EPCOT classic in-between laps around World Showcase during the next festival.

New: Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular

Pin by Claudette Guillen on Disney

Disney World decided to use the popularity of Star Wars to bring a new addition to Disneys Hollywood Studios in July of 2016. The show titled Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular features a multi-media show converging with a fireworks spectacle.

What Is The Oldest Attraction At Walt Disney World

Posted by: Brittany DiCologero February 12, 2022

While designing areas of Disney parks and resorts, Disney Imagineers often find antique items to help create the most immersive environments possible. Sometimes these antiques come in the form of entire attractions! The oldest attraction at Walt Disney World can be found right in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom: Prince Charming Regal Carrousel.

The carrousel Guests ride in the Magic Kingdom was originally constructed in 1917, six years before the Walt Disney Company was even founded. The ride was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, one of the oldest amusement ride manufacturers, for the Detroit Palace Garden Park in Detroit, Michigan.

As you have probably guessed then, the carrousel was not originally themed to Cinderella. While the original fairytale existed, Disneys retelling as an animated film would not be produced until 33 years later on February 15, 1950. When the carrousel was first constructed, the ride had a Patriotic scheme and worked with a primarily red, white, and blue color palette, fitting for its name at the time as Miss Liberty, or The Liberty Carousel.

The Magic Kingdom Railroad

Walt Disney was a noted train enthusiast, and his love of trains was bound to find a place in his parks. The Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad has been a favorite since 1955 in Disneyland California. In Florida, the Magic Kingdom Railroad celebrates classic Americana, providing a picturesque photo-op near the entrance of the park. The clanging of the engines, the chug of the wheels, and the call of the train whistle are reminiscent of a bygone era of steam engines. Guests climb aboard one of four meticulously restored vintage train cars built between 1916 and 1928 and embark on a relaxing 1.5-mile, 20-minute trip encircling the Magic Kingdom Park. Pure nostalgia! You can take a round trip or disembark at the Frontierland or Fantasyland stations.

The Haunted Mansion

Located in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom Park in Disney World, the Haunted Mansion has been giving guests a scary good time since the summer of 1969. Although the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland California is older, the Florida version is bigger . This popular dark ride continues to delight guests with eerie ghouls, spooky surprises, creepy haunts, and chilling graveyard scenes, but is ultimately only mildly frightening, because its Disney after all and the ghosts are friendly.

Whats The Oldest Ride At Disney World

The Prince Charming Regal Carrousel located in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom Park is the oldest Disney World ride. It is a slow, spinning, merry-go-round ride thats open to guests of any height and all ages. Particularly popular with the toddler brigade, this colorful, whimsical attraction is an absolute delight. Guests climb aboard one of the 90 ornately carved wooden horses or the spacious chariot at this classic attraction that was inspired by Disneys Cinderella.

But the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is older than Disney World itself. In fact, its more than one hundred years old having been built in 1917. Isnt it impressive that machinery built more than century ago is still going strong?

Disney acquired the carrousel from the Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan. The ride premiered when Disney World opened its doors in 1971, making it the most authentic treasure on Disney property in Orlando.

What Are The Wait Times Like For Disney World Rides

First Train Ride | Magic Kingdom | Walt Disney World

This is another interesting question. The answer depends very much on what time of day and year you visit, as well as how popular the ride is. If visit during peak season, around the holidays and school breaks, wait times will be longer. Visiting early in the morning and late in the afternoon can mean shorter queues, particularly for popular rides such as Star Wars Galaxys Edge, Space Mountain, and Jungle Cruise.

Walt Disneys Enchanted Tiki Room

Another one of the only attractions remaining that Walt Disney actually had a hand in creating. In fact, all the audio-animatronics you love so much on other rides, started here in the Enchanted Tiki Room.

The song is catchy and the ride is a piece of Disney history. Its a must-do for anyone visiting for the first time and a Disney classic.

New: Alien Swirling Saucer

The inception of Toy Story Land was discussed earlier, but there are quite a few rides based on the hit movie franchise. Disneys Pixar is a booming brand, and Toy Storys three iconic films are the main reason why it took off.

One ride to celebrate the film is the Alien Swirling Saucer located in Disneys Hollywood Studio Attractions. Passengers board one of the toy aliens from the movie and enjoy the spinning ride for a couple of minutes. Children especially love the experience of this ride.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

I had a hard time separating the next three rides. They are all roller coasters and to me its really splitting hairs so I went with my own personal favorites. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a great attraction, in fact, its the first ride in our Best-of-the-Best category.

The interactive queue is great, the storytelling elements are wonderful, and it has some of the most impressive in-ride show scenes of any ride. The reason we put it just behind the next two coasters is that its a little too tame for us and its really short. Its a fun ride, but thrill-seekers wont get much from it.

The show is full of funny moments and a few surprising gags that will have you on the edge of your seat. Kids will love this show and its a way to introduce Disney characters without making it feel forced or out of place.

We love watching the animal carvings on the tree outside and the theater itself is in a really cool location. Definitely a must-do for all age groups.

Streets Of America Was Previously A Respite For People Who Spent The Day On Thrill

Four Year Old Reviews Walt Disney World Rides

Because Hollywood Studios was originally designed to honor the magic of moviemaking, Disney created a backlot that resembled streets from famous American cities, like New York and San Francisco.

There wasn’t much to do on the Streets of America as every building was fake or locked but the area still made parkgoers feel as though they’d been transported to another place. It also provided great photo ops, and a relaxing environment tucked away from the park’s rides.

But according to Yesterland, a blog about retired Disney attractions, the Streets of America closed for good on April 2, 2016, and has since been replaced by the giant Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land.

Old: Liberty Square Riverboat

Unlike most other attractions on the list, the Liberty Square Riverboat is not much of a thrill ride. In fact, the official Disney World website describes it as a slow ride. The riverboat is located on the Magic Kingdom park and gives a serene trip for those wanting a less intense experience.

This attraction opened back in 1971 and has been a part of the park over the past couple of decades.

Many reviews indicate the animatronic wildlife seen during the boat ride puts it over the top as a fun experience to share with the family.

Imagineers designed the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks show in honor of Disneyland’s 50th anniversary. Tinker Bell took her first flight over the crowds during this show’s run. The original version of the show featured segments celebrating each section of the park. In 2009, the Frontierland segment disappeared, and reports suggest the portion vanished for budgetary reasons and the show was on a brief hiatus from 2014 until January 2017.

Original Concept And Design

The Space Mountain concept was a descendant of the first Disney “mountain” attraction, the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland, which opened in 1959. The Matterhorn’s success had convinced Walt Disney that thrilling rides did have a place in his park.

In 1964, Walt first approached designer John Hench with his idea for a new attraction that would be the focal point of a renovated Tomorrowland planned for 1967. His “Space Port” would include a roller-coaster-style ride in the dark, with lighting and other special effects. Originally called “Space Voyage” with concept artwork by John Hench, Clem Hall, George McGinnis, and Herb Ryman. The attraction concept continued to be refined over the coming years by WED Enterprises, and in June 1966, the “Space Port” attraction was called “Space Mountain” for the first time.

Ultimately, designers returned to designing Space Mountain. The Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland had the right amount of available land, and computing technology had improved significantly since the initial design phases. To help cover the cost of developing and building Space Mountain, Card Walker, the CEO of Walt Disney Productions, convinced RCA chairman Robert Sarnoff to sponsor the new attraction RCA was contracted by Disney to provide the communications hardware for the Walt Disney World Resort, and their contract stated that if Disney presented an attraction of interest, RCA would provide $10 million to support it.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

We had a hard time deciding between Big Thunder Mountain and our next coaster since they are both such classic attractions. We went with Big Thunder Mountain here, but the difference is negligible.

Is there anything not to like about a runaway mine train in the Old Wild West that takes you through caverns and an abandoned mining camp? Its not a scary coaster and is pretty tame compared to some, but its all about the theming here, the stunning visuals and the overall experience.

For the best experience, ride it at night during the fireworks show. Youll never forget it because its the wildest ride in the wilderness!
