Example: Expensive Disney World Trip In 2021
This trip example is for the family of four that isnt afraid to treat themselves and splurge a little. For this example, Im going to leave out flights and transportation. Dates chosen are in July for 5-nights.
Hotel Disneys Polynesian Village Resort
As one of my favorite resorts, the Polynesian is home to overwater bungalows and the best Disney restaurant.
For a five night stay, your total comes out to $3,346.90 in a Standard View room with two queen beds.
There are options to upgrade your room to better views or even to a Club Level room which offers lounges, private floors, and other perks but Im not going to include those Club Levo rooms today since they arent currently available.
I opted for the 4-Day Ticket with Park Hopper.
So for a family of four, park ticket prices comes out $2,045.60.
Food and Restaurants
To get the full Disney World experience, good food needs to be a part of your trip. Thats why I recommend you try at least one Table Service restaurant a day. This includes buffets, Character breakfasts, and even a Signature restaurant.
In general, a Table Service meal costs around $45 per person.
A Quick Service meal with drink will come out to around $21.
I say 2-3 snacks is perfect. So youre looking at around $21 for snacks.
Add one Signature Restaurant which is around $80 per person.
You can expect to pay around $2,043 for 6 days of delicious eating.
Total Price = $7,887.50

Disney World Cost Calculator: Time Of Year
Really, when you think about it, this factor right here will determine the price of pretty much everything else that follows. The time of year you choose to go to Disney impacts the cost of hotels and tickets, two of the largest expenses.
Disney breaks the year up according to price. During times of the year that attendance is a little bit lower the prices tend to follow suit. Common lower cost months tend to be January, February, end of August, and September.
If theres a school break, expect higher crowds and higher prices.
I have a guide that goes into more detail about deciding the best time of year to go to Disney. Take a look at that and make your decision from there.
Another Factor: Length of Trip
Clearly, the number of days you plan to be in Disney directly impacts just how expensive the trip will be. Once you decide on your budget, playing around with the length of the trip is one of the easiest ways to manipulate the total cost.
Do you want to stay longer with a lower resort category or have a shorter trip with deluxe accommodations? Theres no wrong answer to that question. Just the right answer for your family.

Factors That Will Determine How Much Money Will Your Disney World Trip Will Cost
A Walt Disney World family vacation is almost always a magical and memorable experience. But it can also be a significant expense.
How much it will cost depends on many factors, but it comes down to your particular situation and the decisions and compromises you make. Most families spend anywhere between $3,000 to $6,000 on a Disney World vacation, but how much costs will depend on how long you stay, where you stay, what dining plan you choose, car rentals, theme park tickets, souvenirs, and other such factors.
This Disney World vacation expense guide will cover the bases for you. So lets get started
All ticket prices mentioned below are accurate for Disney vacations in June 2020. This is subject to change.

Expensive Transport In Disney World
If you dont want to use Disney transportation at all or you arent staying on Disney property you can rent a car once you arrive at the airport use that for your trip. This means you will pay for parking at the theme parks each day, as well as you may have to pay for parking at your hotel.
Maybe you dont want to rent a car though and you want to be chauffeured around on your trip, which is way more relaxing anyways, then you can use Uber/Lyft/Minnie Van services for most of your transportation needs. Plus, you can still use Disney transportation when its most convenient for you.
For an extra posh experience, you can have a Minnie Van pick you up at the airport and pay $150 for the trip to your hotel so that you dont have to ride the Magical Express with everyone else.
Look To Your Credit Card
Some as a benefit, as long as you purchased the trip on that card. Given the high cost of travel insurance, this benefit alone can often be worth the often-high annual fees these cards charge.
Check with your bank to see whats covered. For example, the insurance offered via many Chase credit cards explicitly wont cover theme park tickets.

When Is Disney Travel Insurance Worth It
Given the uncertainty of travel these days, even a quick weekend getaway should have some degree of insurance. But you might not need to pay for Disneys travel insurance.
As long as youre OK with your theme park tickets not being insured, the travel insurance offered through many credit cards is likely a better bet, and might not cost you anything once you hold the card. If you really want to ensure coverage, paying for a Cancel For Any Reason might be even better.
How Much Are Walt Disney World Resort Tickets
There are three main types of Walt Disney World Resort tickets. Base Tickets are your most economical choice and allow you to visit one of the main four theme parks each day of your stay. Park Hopper Tickets allow you to visit multiple parks on the same day for an upgraded cost. Although Park Hopping was not available for most of 2020 travel, it returned with revised procedures on January 1, 2021. Now that Park Hoppers are available again at Walt Disney World Resort, you can expect to pay anywhere from $78-91 more per ticket to upgrade to a Park Hopper from a Base Ticket. The third ticket option is a Park Hopper Plus Ticket, which is the most expensive, but also offers the most variety. This Walt Disney World ticket allows you to visit all four theme parks, as well as bonus activities such as miniature golf and the Disney Water Parks during your visit. This ticket type when available is typically only a few extra dollars per day to upgrade to from a Walt Disney World Park Hopper Ticket.
When looking at prices of Walt Disney World tickets, youll of course pay more for a longer ticket. However, the price per day goes down significantly with longer length Disney World tickets. For example, a 1-day ticket for one park in 2021 starts at $109, but a 7-day base ticket for 2021 starts as low as $67 per day – a $42 per day discount! Or even better, a 10-day base ticket starts as low as $52 per day – thats less than half price!

Without A Dining Plan
If you decide to visit WDW without a dining plan, take a look at some of your dining options ahead of time to try to game plan costs. Be realistic about how often youll want snacks, need to buy a bottle of water, or will crave a sit-down dinner. Also, be sure to factor in alcohol if that applies to you.
There are ways to cut down on costs. We always recommend bringing a box of granola bars and even ordering snacks to be delivered from the grocery store to your hotel. Even if you can just do breakfast this way, youll save a lot of money.
For simplicitys sake, we recommend budgeting at least $60 per day per adult and $35 per day per child. This doesnt include extras, so plan accordingly.
Pop Century Grounds & Theming
The theme of Pop Century is pop culture from the 1950s through 1990s. Each section of buildings is themed to a decade.
Pop Century comprises 11 buildings and three pools. The main building is Classic Hall. Thats where youll find the Everything Pop! store and food court, lobby, concierge, but stops, and arcade. Directly behind Classic Hall is the main poolthe Hippy Dippy Poolin between the two 60s-themed buildings .
North of the 60s buildings are buildings 1, 2, and 3, themed to the 50s and with the Bowling Pool between them. South of the 60s are buildings 6 and 10 themed to the 70s. And south of those buildings are 7 and 980s themedand 890s themed. Those three sit around the Computer Pool. All three pools have laundry rooms near them.
West of the entire resortso straight out back and past the 60s buildingsis Hourglass Lake, which you can cross to get to Art of Animation.

Flights To Disney On A Budget
Depending on how early you book your trip, and the day of the week you flight on, you can score a pretty good deal on flights to Orlando. Try to fly out during the week on a weekday instead of arriving on a weekend.
Look for flights with layovers instead of nonstop, and try not to travel during holidays. You can also book with a budget airline, if those are offered at the airport near you.
The average range for budget flights to Orlando will be between $150-$250 per person. These are roundtrip tickets, and if you can find one of these from your local airport, these are great deals to snag!
How Much Does It Cost To Get To Disney World
Next, lets talk about actually getting to Disney. How will you get there?
If youre a Disney regular, youre already covered. Annual passes come with parking included.
If youre flying in and staying at a Disney hotel, youre covered too. Just add the freeDisney Magical Express bus service to your travel plan and you can save the cost of a rental car or ride share, and get dropped off right at the front door of your resort.
If you drive, plan to pay nightly self-parking fees at Disney hotels and off property Good Neighbor hotels. Parking fees will be added to your room charges when you check out. As of April 2021, standard overnight parking rates at Disney hotels are as follows:
- $15 per night at Disney Value resorts
- $20 per night at Disneys Moderate resorts
- $25 per night at the Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts

Special Tours And Experiences
Disney offers many tours and experiences throughout its properties and four parks. Disney designed them to enhance guests knowledge and offer very special access. Of course, this comes at a price.
Some of the special tours offered include the Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot , where guests learn about the greenhouses in Epcot and how Disney grows much of the food served in its restaurants.
The Wild Africa Trek in Animal Kingdom walks guests through some of the parks most exciting exhibits and includes a meal. There are also behind-the-scenes tours at all four parks that give visitors insight into operations and more.
There are free experiences as well. Guests can view holiday and seasonal decorations, enjoy festivals at Epcot , participate in merchandise events, get a haircut on Main Street, U.S.A., and much more.
Final Thoughts On The Disney World Cost Calculator
I really hope you find this Disney cost calculator helpful. I really do have a unhealthy fascination with spreadsheets. But it was important to me to design a tool more useful than a standard printable. And really, the less math I have to do on my own, the better!
But seriously, download this Disney World trip calculator and make your life a little easier.

Overall Disneyland Vacation Thoughts
Our kids have never been obsessed with Disney, but weve never been anti-Disney either. Weve been to Hong Kong Disneyland once, Disney World twice, and Disneyland maybe ten times . And weve done three Disney cruises in Europe. Especially when the kids were younger, they were constantly watching Disney movies and being subjected to Disney commercials on the Disney Channel, and they would ask to go to Disneyland frequently. So we would drive down in the morning, spend the day, stay overnight, and by lunch the second day, without fail, they would be ready to head home. Then they wouldnt ask to return for about six months, at which point they had forgotten about the heat and the lines and tantrums.
But we lived less than two hours away. For a family without annual passes whos flying in from out-of-state, its a much more expensive proposition. How expensive? Theres no perfect answer, since every family is different and it varies by date, but the basic elements are the same. For a family of four, you need four plane tickets, a shuttle between the airport and the hotel, a hotel , park passes , and food. Im doing the basic calculations below. And then Im going to list some international destinations where you can take your kids for less. Maybe think about skipping Disney, especially if youve been before, and showing your kids the world instead!
