What Are The Rooms Like At The Cabins At Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort
The rooms in the Cabins are designed to look authentically frontier-like, but they are also well-lit and high-ceilinged. They come with all the modern conveniences you would expect from a Disney Resort. Theyre family-friendly, many complete with bunk beds and pull-out couches.
The Cabins are spacious and well-designed. Unlike real cabins in the American West, which can tend to the rustic , the Fort Wilderness Cabins also have great kitchens with full-sized appliances, so you can feel at home and have a great time making dinner for your group â but you also have the option of exploring Disney Worlds various dining possibilities, at Fort Wilderness and elsewhere. They are Cabins, at the end of the day, rather than all-inclusive hotel rooms, so you will want to remember to pack essentials for your family trip.
The thoughtful touches Disney has put into the Cabins, like their furniture, are what makes them completely winning. The chairs at the dining table look like theyre roughly hewn out of local wood by old prospector types. But if you try them, theyre actually well-cushioned and comfortable!
Getting Festive At The Fort
As if there isn’t enough to do at the Fort already, holidays at Fort Wilderness are truly a sight to behold. Many guests hop over to the Fort to go “looping” and take a peek at all of the creative ways that campers decorate their campsites, from lights, to inflatables, to chalk drawings. You can find decorations around the loops year-round , but Halloween and Christmas are especially festive. Fort Wilderness sprinkles some seasonal activities to the mix during these times, too, including pumpkin carving contests, trick-or-treating, golf cart parades and more.
That said, Fort Wilderness tends to book up far in advance, so be sure to hop to it if you’re wanting to visit during one of these popular times! Room-only reservations can be booked up to 499 days in advance .
The Size And Layout Of Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort
The spine of the resort is a roughly 1.3 mile road, Fort Wilderness Trail. At the southern end of Fort Wilderness Trail is the Outpost, which contains check-in and bus transportation to the parks.
At the north end is the Settlement, home to most of the dining options and boat transportation. Somewhere near the middle is the Meadow, which contains the feature pool and campfire area.
The accommodations are in little neighborhoods or culs-de-sac lining Fort Wilderness Trail and a few connected roads. Cabins are at the southern end, RV sites are north of them, and the two tent areas are roughly equidistant from the Outpost and Settlement.

This Is A Camping Experience
A stay at Fort Wilderness Resort, whether its in an RV, tent, or one of the cabins, is a camping experience. Thats not a con for many of us, especially because camping Disney-style offers a fun, back-to-nature experience.
But if you stay here and expect all the things youd get staying at, say, the BoardWalk area, you might be disappointed. Dont get us wrong: Theres more than enough to do and its a lot of fun but its not the same type of experience.
The Cabins At Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort: A Disney World Resort Review
Staying at the The Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort was a great experience for my family and I. We were very happy with the cabin itself, being a family of five, a typical hotel or resort room can get very tight, very quickly.
The Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort is considered a moderate resort and is in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area.
Here is a little preview of the Fort Wilderness area!

Accommodations At Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort
The resort offers four types of accommodations. The first two types of accommodations are categorized under The Campsites at Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort on the Disney website. Disney does not categorize these as value, moderate or deluxe, instead sensibly giving them their own classification.
Tent or Pop-Up Campsites are intended for people with tents or small campers. The spaces allow two tents. Youre expected to bring your own tent, though there is an under-the-radar tent rental system run by Disney. They do not have a sewage hookupyoull be relying on shared bathrooms.
Full Hook-Up Campsites are for people with RVs. They have space for an RV and a tent, and they have a sewage hookup.
The third accommodation type is the Wilderness Cabin. Youll find the Wilderness Cabins by searching for The Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort on the Disney website. The Cabins are closer to traditional hotel accommodations, except that each cabin is its own separate physical unit. We stayed in and review our cabin below.
Disney categorizes The Cabins as a moderate accommodation type. Besides pricing, theres no reason to compare these to other moderate Disney resorts.
The final type of accommodation is primitive campinga campsite area reserved for groups like scout troops. You cannot book these campsites online, and we wont discuss them at all again in this post.
Activities At Fort Wilderness
Fort Wilderness has so many activities! Honestly, theres no way Ill actually list them all.
We already covered the big two Mickeys Backyard BBQ and Hoop-Dee-Dooin our dining discussion above. Theres also a third nighttime show, Chip n Dales Campfire Sing-A-Long. Thats a 30-minute show sing-along that includes a meet and greet with Chip and Dale. The stage is over in the Meadow, and the show occurs nightly.
Also at the Meadow and occurring around the same time as the sing-along are the nightly campfire and Movie Under the Stars. Smores kits for the campfire are sold right next to the fire at the Chuck Wagon. You can combine these first three activities into a single night.
Staying in the Meadow, there are a variety of activities operating out of the Bike Barn. These include: kayak, canoe, bicycling, archery, fishing, specialty cruises, and the Wilderness Back Trail Adventure Segway tour.
Finally, the Meadow Swimmin Hole pool features a standard Disney lineup of activities for kids throughout the day.
Down at the Outpost is where youll find the start of the Horseback Trail Ride. This is a 45-minute ride through nature at Fort Wilderness. Reservations are required .
At the other end of the resort at the Settlement, youll find the Tri-Circle-D Ranch. You can visit the ranch and see the horses and ponies throughout the day, and pony rides are available 10AM to 5PM.

What Grocery Delivery Options Are Available At The Cabins At Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort
You can also order groceries from Disneys own delivery service or services like Garden Grocer and Magical Vacation Grocers. You can also get groceries delivered from Target. Look around to see which best serves your familys dietary needs. For example, while Disney delivers, unfortunately, they dont include fresh fruits or vegetables in their offerings. You could live on P& Js Southern Takeout for your whole trip, but youll probably want some fresh fruit and veg for your family at some point!

Transportation Around Disney World
Like many Disney World Resorts, buses are your main way to reach the theme parks. At Fort Wilderness, the Outpost Depot is your hub for theme park destinations EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. Reaching the Outpost Depot requires you to take an internal bus line Orange if you’re staying at the cabins. You exit at the Depot, then board the bus for your theme park. Theme park buses begin about one hour before park opening and run up to two hours after the park closes.
For Magic Kingdom, you’ll take a 15-minute journey aboard a green flag boat that departs from the marina. Beginning one hour before the park opens and ending two hours after closing, two boats run this route.
Other direct destinations from Fort Wilderness are Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary. By boat, you’ll board a blue flag boat. You can also catch a bus at the Outpost Depot.
Depending on your family, the Inner Loop bus to theme park bus system can be a nuisance or not an issue. There is lots of waiting, loading, riding, unloading, waiting again and such until you arrive at your destination. For guests with wheelchairs, ECVs and baby strollers, this can be a stressful way to vacation. If it doesn’t apply to you, and immediacy isn’t your style, then busing around is a convenient way to travel. Remember, on-site guests get free theme park parking .
Benefits Of Staying On
While you’re camping out at Fort Wilderness or staying at any Disney World Resort hotel you get access to some great perks, including the new Early Theme Park Entry benefit. Early Theme Park Entry gives Disney Resort hotel guests access to all four Disney theme parks 30 minutes before they open to the public, every day of their stay.
Staying at a Disney resort will also give guests a slightly earlier booking window to select their Individual Lightning Lane selections at 7 a.m.
Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests also get to book Advance Dining Reservations, or ADRs, 60-days in advance of check-in for their entire length of stay. With the new Disney Park Pass reservation system in place to reduce capacity, resort guests generally have the best availability for Park Passes, as well.

The Cabins Showcase Floridas Natural Beauty
Unlike any other Walt Disney World Resort, the Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort put you in the middle of nature. Sure, its not nearly as wild as, say, the middle of the Grand Canyon or the Smoky Mountains, but consider this: The Walt Disney World Resort is perched on the edge of the historic headwaters of the Florida Everglades .
What does that mean? It means you will see some wonderful flora and fauna, including white-tailed deer, sweeping cypress trees, wild turkey, and towering longleaf pine treesall from your front porch or through your cabin window. Thats not something any other Walt Disney World Resort hotel can promise!

The cabins are located furthest from the main building so, its almost impossible to walk from the cabins to the main building because of the great distance. Theres also no walkway, only roads that zigzag around the resort and through the other loops. Other resort amenities, like the pools, tennis courts, campfire pit, restaurants, petting zoo, and other locations of interest, are throughout the resort, making no cabin or campsite accessible to everything you might want to do or see by foot. Keeping that in mind, Fort Wilderness has an internal bus system that will take guests around the resort or to one of the three locations that receive external bus and boat service to the theme parks and Downtown Disney. Buffet Meals At Fort Wilderness
Fort Wilderness has one buffet restaurantTrails End Restaurant. Its a standard, casual Disney buffet, open for breakfast and dinner. The menu is available here.
We didnt have a chance to eat at Trails End Restaurant, as we were stuck in our cabin during a storm with a tornado warning for our breakfast ADR. We did have a drink at their bar, Crocketts Tarvern. The overall ambiance inside was very casual.
