The deluxe resort category at the Walt Disney World Resort includes eight different hotels. These resort hotels include more amenities and overall, closer proximity to the parks compared to the moderate and value resorts. Each of these hotels includes amazing pools and delicious restaurants, including signature dining experiences.

The deluxe villa resort category includes eleven different options. These properties are part of the Disney Vacation Club and include studio, 1-, 2-, or 3-bedroom grand villas. Several of these properties are located near a deluxe resort and may share amenities.

Both deluxe and deluxe villas offer at least two methods of transportation to the parks, such as boats, monorail, or resort buses. The only exception to this is the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas.

Walt Disney World Swan And Dolphin Resorts

Like a few other properties on this list, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts aren’t Disney-owned properties, but their close proximity to the parks and on-site Disney resort benefits make them worth checking out. Plus, Marriott Bonvoy members will be happy to know that they can earn points here because these are Marriott-managed hotels. Guests can enjoy perks like early entry and extended hours at Disney parks and complimentary transportation . The hotels offer a range of suites and guest rooms, six pools, and 18 restaurants and lounges. Plus, the brand-new Walt Disney World Swan Reserve opens in fall 2021.

Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge

Why We Love It:

Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge is a unique resort hotel. When you enter the hotel, its like visiting an African wildlife reserve. There are a variety of birds and animals, over 200 different species, who make this resort their home. With four different savannas, there are plenty of opportunities to see the animals too with public viewing areas. There are even rooms that offer a savanna view.

This Resort is Great For:

If you are looking to have some downtime during your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, this is a great choice. Like all the Disney resort hotels, there is always plenty to do. This hotel is also great for anyone who loves animals. It would be a good fit for a honeymoon or an adults-only trip too. Although the resort is farther away from the theme parks compared to some of the other deluxe resorts, the experience, and unique theme make up for that.

Things to Consider:

Bus transportation is the only way to get to the theme parks. This may be a downside if you are traveling with young children or want to be able to walk to the theme parks. The resort may also seem a bit further from most of the theme parks so if being close to the parks is very important, this may not be a good fit.

Best Disney World Resort Pools

If you just want to know which Disney resort hotels have the best pools, there are two clear winners for the best pools at Disney World.

Disneys Beach and Yacht Club Resorts offer five-star poolside fun.

These sister properties have the distinct feel of a beach in an otherwise landlocked resort, as this is where you will find sand-bottomed pools with a lazy river, pirate ship and a wicked waterslide that will keep young swimmers entertained.

For younger kids, the winner might be the Art of Animation, which also has the largest, more traditional pool, known as the Big Blue Pool. It has a zero-entry area and also a separate water play space for smaller children. Theres no waterslide, but the resort also has two other pools, the Cozy Cones pool and Flippin Fins pool.

An honorable mention goes to the Lava Pool at Polynesian Village, which has a volcano waterslide in the middle, along with a separate toddler slide area. Getting a poolside view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and easily accessible Dole Whip doesnt hurt either.

Disneys Yacht Club Resort

Why We Love It:

This resort hotel is the sister property to Disneys Beach Club Resort and offers a more formal vibe with the same great amenities. The main pool area, Stormalong Bay, is the best on Disney property and the short walk to EPCOT are two of the best parts of this property. There are a few room categories to choose from too, some of which may result in a view of the fireworks at EPCOT! The dining options and views of Crescent Lake are additional reasons to love the resort. Its a favorite!

This Resort is Great For:

Like its sister resort, Disneys Yacht Club is great for all ages. The pool area alone makes this hotel great for families. The central location makes it easy to get back and forth from the theme parks. There are plenty of opportunities for fun nearby too, with Fantasia Gardens and Fairways just a few minutes away, motorized boat rentals, and more available for resort guests. Plus, if you want to bring your furry family member along, this is one of the dog-friendly hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Things to Consider:

Sometimes, the buses are shared with other resort hotels. This may result in a longer ride to and from the theme parks, but this typically happens during slower times of the day.

Best Overall: Disneys Riviera Resort

Disneys Riviera Resort

Disney Worlds newest hotel has luxury amenities, buzzworthy dining, and easy access to the new Skyliner gondola transportation system.

  • Two pools and a splash pad

  • Four restaurants

  • Some rooms with only Murphy beds

  • Less Disney feel

Inspired by Walt Disneys vacations to the South of France, Disneys Riviera Resort is the newest Walt Disney World hotel that opened towards the end of 2019. The hotels luxury feel starts the moment you walk into the gleaming white lobby with its view of the lake beyond and extends to the furthest corners of the resorts outdoor spaces, where youll find gorgeous inlaid murals of scenes from Disney movies like “Tangled.”But overall, the resort feels more like a luxury hotel than a Disney-themed one.

The smallest rooms are Tower Studios which feature pull-down queen Murphy beds and mini-kitchenettes, and the largest are three-bedroom suites with full kitchens and in-room washers and dryers. Three restaurants range from fine character dining at Topolinos Terrace, a rooftop restaurant that has views of the Hollywood Studios fireworks when theyre happening, to quick service at Primo Piatto and Bar Riva, the poolside bar serving small plates. By day, Le Petite Café is a coffee shop by night it becomes a cocktail lounge. Because Riviera has a Skyliner stop, this hotel has especially quick access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios on the new aerial gondola system.

Why Stay At A Disney Resort

Walt Disney World® Resort

Staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel is still the best way to experience the theme parks and everything that the Walt Disney World Resort has to offer. Guests staying onsite can enjoy earlier access to the theme parks and use Disney transportation to get around the resort.

If you stay in a deluxe or deluxe villa resort, you can also take advantage of Extended Evening Hours, where the park stays open two hours later for guests staying at one of these resorts.

Aside from the convenience, there is still something magical about staying at one of these hotels. You go into the Disney Bubble and you dont have to leave until your vacation ends. There are so many resorts to choose from and there are choices for every budget and taste. Lets take a closer look!
