Planning Around After Hours And Extended Evening Hours
You dont specifically have to plan around After Hours or Extended Evening Hours because the park simply closes for guests who dont have access to that event. The only thing to be aware of is that nights with these offerings might involve the park closing earlier than other nights. To maximize your time in the parks, try to avoid being caught at a park that is closing earlier than normal.

Epcot Extends Park Hours With Early Openings
Posted by: Brittany DiCologero February 28, 2022
EPCOT recently adjusted park hours to a much earlier opening time for mornings at the park for at least the next two weeks. The park had been opening at 10 AM since the reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort in 2020, and now for the first time since prior to the pandemic, the park will begin opening at 8:30 AM.
Earlier EPCOT hours began today, February 28, 2022, and currently run through March 19, 2022, according to the park hours calendar on the My Disney Experience app. Hour after March 19 are scheduled with 10 AM start time, however, it is possible the earlier hours will be extended, especially with the opening of the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewindattraction this May.
With an 8:30 start time, Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels will be able to enter EPCOT even sooner as the early theme park entry time at this Disney Park for Disney resortGuests begins a half-hour earlier than park opening for day Guests.
Park hours for the next couple of weeks have not changed for the other theme parks at Walt Disney World, however, if crowds continue to increase it is possible that we will see expanded park hours similarly to how they changed throughout February.

Writer’s Note News & Views
I have to say that this week presents probably the toughest Walt Disney World Resort Update to write in my time at keyboard. Today, March 1, 2022, Walt Disney World Resort opens the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. This new product is unlike anything that Disney has ever offered before and is being sold at a luxury price-point that probably eludes the vast majority of folks who read our Updates, and, indeed, the general public. It’s not even intended for everyone, but, as Disney says, for those guests that love Star Wars and the people who love them.
The niche nature of the offering is what presents the difficulty in writing this week’s Update. All of the online vitriol spewed against those of us who were hosted by Disney at this media event is just noise. I was one of perhaps 100 media representatives hosted by Walt Disney World at a two-day media event at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, which included a roughly four-hour highlights tour of the full 2-day/2-night Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience . Another similar number of outlets were invited to the full experience earlier last week. The only restrictions placed on me and the other media outlets was to hold off on all publication relating to the media event until after 9 a.m. Eastern time on February 25, and, like at all events, to refrain from photography and recording in any backstage or security areas.

Disney World Proved That Theme Parks Could Be Vacation Destinations
The creation of Disney World changed Florida, and it also changed theme parks and the entertainment industry. Carissa Baker, an assistant professor who studies theme parks at the University of Central Florida, says Walt Disney pioneered the concept of synergy.
“He creates…the Disneyland TV show in 1954, which kind of sells the idea of the Disneyland Park,” Baker says. “But all of these movies and TV shows that are on the Disneyland TV shows were of course his previous properties. So now, you’re kind of tying all this together.”
Baker says Disney World also showed that by adding hotels and more attractions, theme parks could become vacation destinations, a place where families can spend a week or more without ever leaving the Disney bubble.

Matt Jason, from New York City, was recently visiting Disney World for third time since he first visited as a child. He and his family planned to spending five days there.
“Right now, I’m going with my daughter so she can learn to be there and learn to love it,” he says.
“The average wage in metro Orlando is beneath the state average which is beneath the national average,” Rick Foglesong says. “That’s the legacy of tourism and relying upon tourism as the basis of your economy.”

Magic Kingdom After Hours
After Hours Events are ticketed events that occur after regular park hours. Guests for After Hours events are typically allowed in the park a few hours before the event starts, and before the event starts they are given wristbands that allow them to stay in the park for the event.

Disney releases park hours about 75 days in advance. It may be as few as 71 or as many as 78. But, in general, the park hours come out around 75 days in advance.

Disney Wanted To Capture The East Coast Theme Park Audience
When Disneyland opened in California in 1955, it quickly became a big success, but the company soon realized that only 2% of visitors came from east of the Mississippi River. Walt Disney went looking for an East Coast location and eventually settled on Florida.
Rick Foglesong, professor emeritus at Rollins University and author of the book, says the interstate highway system drew him to Orlando.
“Roads were all important to the Disney company because they wanted to build a park that would be 10 times the size of Disneyland in California,” Foglesong says. “That meant, that if they were going to build such a big park, they would have to import tourists from afar, from down the East Coast, from the Midwest.”

“At that time, Orlando was more of a cow town and literally when you’d come down Orange Blossom Trail, you could smell the orange blossoms,” Demetree says.
Her father and uncle were uncertain they would ever find a buyer for the property because of all the wetlands. But, as she heard the story, that’s one of the things that appealed to Walt Disney when he flew over the area in a private plane.
“He saw that wetland and said, ‘Right there is Tom Sawyer’s island,'” Demetree says. “And that was the wetlands that they had been complaining about.”
When Does Magic Kingdom Let People In
Long-time Disney visitors know that there is the official opening time for a park and then there is the time Disney typically starts letting guests inside, which can be up to 30 minutes before the official opening time.
Disney has put a formal stamp on this unofficial opening time by allowing onsite resort guests to always have access to the parks 30 minutes before non-Disney Resort guests. This access for on-site guests is called Early Theme Park Entry and we have more info on that below.
So, if you want to be there for Rope Drop at Magic Kingdom, we recommend arriving to the front of the park no later than 45 minutes before the official opening time.
Heres how to do that:
- If you are taking the bus to Magic Kingdom youll need to be down to the bus stop 90 minutes before the official opening time. That should put you on the first or second bus of the day .
- If you are driving to Magic Kingdom, youll have some extra steps involved because you will need to make time to park and then take the ferry or monorail over to Magic Kingdom. We recommend you be at the Transportation and Ticket Center parking booths about 60 minutes before Magic Kingdom is scheduled to open.
- And, the same for the boats and monorail. Aim to get into line at your resort no later than 60 minutes before the park opens.
- If you are walking , aim to be to the security checkpoint about 45 minutes before park opening.
