Disney World Updates ‘hall Of Presidents’ To Include New Animatronic Of Joe Biden

Disney World’s “The Hall of Presidents” will reopen in August with its newest addition, an animatronic replica of Joe Biden, complete with the president’s signature aviator sunglasses.

The newest addition to the attraction includes a recitation of the presidential oath of office Biden recorded for the attraction, according to Disney, as well as a table full of appropriate props like the classic specs and peach blossoms representing Biden’s home state of Delaware.

“The Hall of Presidents,” which has been delighting guests since the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, has been closed since January so the park could add Biden to the attraction.

“For the past few months, work has been underway to add President Joe Biden to the stage as the 46th President of the United States,” Disney wrote on Monday in a first-look at the figure. “Every detail comes together to create a realistic and symbolic glimpse into the office of the President through the years, from the carefully tailored clothing to the props, documents and furniture placed throughout the stage.”

The show includes a film that talks about the founding of the United States along with Audio-Animatronics replicas of every president that has ever served.

Disney said former-president Donald Trump, who was added to the stage in 2017 after a nearly year-long closure, will now be moved alongside “those who have previously served.”

    Great Moments With Mr Lincoln

Disney and his Imagineers created an Audio-Animatronic figure of Abraham Lincoln, more advanced than the ones produced for the Illinois Pavilion at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair. The show consisted of a pre-show film on a screen with a depiction of paintings done to represent Illinois. Guests then entered the main theater where the theater curtains eventually were removed to reveal the figure of Abraham Lincoln sitting in a chair. He rose out of the chair, stood up, and gave an oratory, lasting five to seven minutes, consisting of a collection of his famous speeches. The show concluded with more theater curtains revealing the Rotunda of the United States Capitol Building. While the original version of the show that played in New York during its showing at the Fair was eventually dismantled and demolished, a similar version was created even while the Fair was going on in 1965. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln was closed down for Disneyland’s 50th anniversary in 2005 but re-opened in 2009.

Disneys Magic Kingdom Park is host to six whimsical lands, some more well-known than others. You might know Tomorrowland for Space Mountain, Adventureland for Pirates of the Caribbean, Fantasyland for Its a Small World, and even Main Street USA for its shops backdropped by Cinderellas Castle. But one oft-forgotten land in the Magic Kingdom, and the parks smallest, is Liberty Square, which has the popular Haunted Mansion and the Hall of Presidents.

The Hall of Presidents is a 25-minute stage show that tells the dramatic story of the nations founding, according to Disneys website, through animatronic figures of U.S. presidents.

The show opened when Disney World opened in 1971 and was created after a Disney-developed animatronic Abraham Lincoln reciting the Gettysburg Address was showcased at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964. Lincoln remains on display at Disneyland, and Disney it the first Audio-Animatronics figure in human form.

For many Disney parkgoers, its long been a joke that the hall is where you go to cool off or take a nap.

Like every animatronic president since Bill Clinton, President Trump addresses the crowd with a speech. Still, there was backlash after the park added the 45th president to the stage in late 2017. A petition for Trumps figure to be denied a speaking role received more than 15,000 signatures in 2017.
