Disney’s Art Of Animation Resort Pro & Con
Advantages – Clean, comfortable setting with a huge pool and incredible, colorful Disney/Pixar themed courtyards. The Family Suites can accommodate larger families and multi-generational groups at a price point that is much lower than the Deluxe resort villas. If you’re looking for an immersive Disney/Pixar experience, this resort will certainly provide it.
Disadvantages – This resort is a more expensive than the other value resorts. The Little Mermaid Standard Rooms have such limited quantity and are so popular that Disney has excluded them from every discount and promotion since they opened. The Family Suites have typically been included in discounts and promotions.
Our Opinion – We wish this resort was open when we were raising our four kids because we always had to rent two connecting rooms and a well-themed suite like this would have been more fun. The theming of this resort is just fantastic, and this has quickly become one of the most popular hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort. Each courtyard is scaled so that you “fit” into the scene so that you are IN the animation. This charming hotel is probably the most “Disney” of any of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels, making it a delightful choice for kids and Disney fans. A nice bonus is that you can see some of the higher fireworks from Epcot’s IllumiNations over by the lake, at the back of the Lion King area.

Choosing Between Art Of Animation And Pop Century
Many guestsparticularly first timerswill be looking to choose between Art of Animation and Pop Century. Its common to ignore the All-Star Resorts because theyre too value. While we think this is wrong , the Skyliner does help give Pop Century and Art of Animation an extra edge.
Obviously, if youre interested in a family suite, youll want to book Art of Animation. Theres no comparable option at Pop Century.
The real difficulty comes in choosing between The Little Mermaid rooms and Pop Century. All the discourse above can be boiled down to three points: theme, space, and quality.
Space is a tricky one. Theres no couches in either of these rooms. If youre in them, youll either be sitting at a desk or on your bed. When the Murphy beds are open at Pop Century, you lose your desk, but youll still have enough surface space around the room for storing things like maps and personal accessories. To us, space just isnt a huge factor in deciding between these two rooms.
Theme is straightforward. The photos above show what to expect from The Little Mermaid rooms. If thats what youre looking for, then go for it. Here are a few more:
For us, it comes down to room quality. The hardwood floors, the increased vanity space , the larger television, and the numerous outlets set the Pop Century rooms apart. Since you can pay for a preferred room and get great location, we just dont see the justification for Disneys pricing at Art of Animation.
Rooms At Pop Century And Art Of Animation
There are several differences to note between the rooms at Pop Century and the standard rooms at Art of Animation. Were going to compare three sets of rooms: the standard rooms at Art of Animation, the standard rooms at Pop Century, and the preferred rooms at Pop Century.
A room at Pop Century with the Murphy bed up
Price. In 2022, standard rooms at Art of Animation start at $195 per night. Standard rooms at Pop Century start at $168 per night. Preferred rooms at Pop Century start at $186 per night. Most nights youll be able to get a preferred room at Pop Century for less than a standard room at Art of Animation.
Theme. The standard rooms at Art of Animation are The Little Mermaid rooms. They are themed toThe Little Mermaid!
A Little Mermaid room at Art of Animation
The Pop Century rooms all have pretty plain theming.
A room at Pop Century with the Murphy bed down
Space. According to the DIS, the standard rooms in Art of Animation are 17 square feet bigger than the rooms in Pop Century. While we love the Pop Century rooms, we do find the space difference noticeable. With the Murphy bed down, the Pop Century rooms get very cramped.
Location. This is an interesting one. The Little Mermaid rooms are the worst location at Art of Animation, about seven minutes from Animation Hall.
Transportation To The Theme Parks
The Art of Animation Resort is located adjacent to the Pop Century Resort, and both resorts sit next to Disneys Hollywood Studios and below . Though the resort is much closer to these two theme parks than to either the Animal Kingdom or the , bus travel is still the way that most guests choose to get to them. More ambitious visitors may choose to walk, but most families particularly those with younger children will opt for the efficient bus system instead.
Bus travel is the only possible way to get to the farther theme parks, unless visitors have their own car or a rented car with them at the resort. Depending on the lines for buses at the resort and the theme parks, taking a car may not even be quicker by the time you have parked a car and walked or shuttled to the entrances, bus travelers may have beaten you to the gates.
Great touches like signs themed to Disney films make the resort a fun place to stay.
Complimentary Transportation To And From Art Of Animation
Free transportation is one of the perks of staying at a Disney resort, and guests staying at the Art of Animation hotel have access to two different options: taking the bus or riding on the Disney Skyliner. The bus picks up outside Animation Hall, with routes running to the different Disney parks as well as Disney Springs. As for the Skyliner, Art of Animation shares a station with Disneys Pop Century Resort which is located on the Generation Gap Bridge between the two resorts. Your first stop will be the Caribbean Beach Resort. From there, you can then choose to either head over to Hollywood Studios or continue on to the Riviera and Epcot.

Disneys Art Of Animation Resort During Covid
For over a year, the Covid-19 pandemic brought life as we knew it to a screeching halt. Disney World felt the sting, scaling back typical offerings or canceling them altogether to enforce safety guidelines and to help ensure the health of both guests and cast members. Fortunately, as vaccination numbers increase, some of those changes are steadily going away. That being said, there are still some things you need to be aware of before your upcoming stay at Disneys Art of Animation Resort.
In general, aside from the Pixel Play Arcade and some other special resort activities, basically all of the resort-specific amenities are open and available at Art of Animation. This includes the pools, restaurant, pool bar, and store. Aside from that, however, there are some amenities and services across Walt Disney World property that are either temporarily altered or on hiatus. They include:
- No Disneys Magical Express luggage delivery
- No airline check-in service
As things continue to go back to normal , things around Disney World should follow as well. The situation is still changing quite frequently, so we recommend you take a look at the My Disney Experience app or Disneys website, or speak to an Art of Animation cast member during or after check-in, for the most up-to-date information.

Disney Art Of Animation Hotel Prices
Although value resorts at Disney World are known for being the most affordable of the bunch, the Art of Animation hotel is an exception. As the newest Disney value resort, even the standard rooms are more expensive than some of the rooms at the All-Stars or Pop Century, and an Art of Animation family suite can even cost you more than a stay in some of the rooms at one of the moderate Disney resorts. For example, one of The Little Mermaid Standard Rooms can run you as low as $188 per night during the low season, whereas a stay in a Finding Nemo Suite at Art of Animation can cost upwards of $800 around Christmas and New Years.
In other words, if youre looking to save the most money possible, this isnt the Disney hotel for you. However, if youre ok with sending a little more in the name of more space or better theming, then Art of Animation can be an excellent value.
Just like any other hotel stay, your room rate will depend on how many people you need to fit and when you choose to visit. More popular dates like over spring break or the winter holidays will cost the most while less busy dates will equal lower rates. Unlike most of the other Disney World hotels, however, rather than paying for what kind of view you want, there are specific room types you can choose if youd like to lock in a specific room theme.
Below are rough price ranges for what you can expect to pay at Art of Animation:
