- Originally planned to open for Walt Disney Worlds 50th anniversary, the Magic Kingdom version was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Its currently planned opening date is unknown.

Will Tron At Magic Kingdom Be Identical To The Shanghai Version
TRON Lightcycle Power Run is already a ride in Shanghai Disneyland. It opened with the park on June 16, 2016.
We dont know, but presumably it will be very close. From whats been seen in construction and concept art, it looks substantially similar to the Shanghai ride, and theres been no indication that it will be different in any significant manner. But thats not to say a turn or two couldnt be changed.
Heres a look comparing a November 2019 construction photo to the Shanghai coaster:

A couple of pools will be closed in January as well. The Flippin Fins Pool at Disneys Art of Animation Resort will be closed from early January through late February. In the meantime, guests can use the Big Blue Pool or the Cozy Cone Pool , which will both remain open.

The Cozy Cone Pool will close in late February after the Flippin Fins Pool reopens. This closure is expected to last through mid-April 2022.

Cinderella Castle is getting ready for the 50th anniversary
Both BIG, FAST rides were originally projected to open with Disney Worlds 50th anniversary, and Disney has yet to officially confirm whether their opening dates will be delayed. Weve been keeping a close eye on the progress for these rides, and were here discussing everything we know as of now and how that may or may not impact these rides from opening on time.
Both TRON Lightcycle Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind were announced at D23 in 2017, with projections having them both open by . Since Disney Worlds 50th anniversary announcement, Disney has not updated whether these rides are officially delayed or on track. But since were just about a month shy of the big 5-0 and both rides are still very much in progress, lets go over everything we know so far.
How Scary Is The Tron Coaster
Im usually a person that encourages everyone to try every attraction, at least once, but there is no doubt that the Tron roller coaster is definitely going to be scary for some guests.
Tron Lightcycle Power Run will immediately become one of the most intense rides in Disney World the minute it opens due to the high speeds at which the trains travel, and steep turns and drops. It also reaches heights of up to 70ft off the ground, so definitely not for the faint of heart.

New Rides And Attractions Coming To Walt Disney World Resort
New rides and attractions coming to Walt Disney World Resort

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Several new rides and attractions are in the works at Walt Disney World.
‘Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” is officially opening for the 50th anniversary, debuting officially to the public on October 1st. Guests are shrunken down to the size of a mouse for a 4D culinary adventure based on the hit movie. Just like Remy, guests dash and scurry through the kitchen, dining room, and even the walls of Gusteau’s restaurant in Paris.
“You dont know where youre going to go next, which is so incredible to people to have the story unfold without you knowing what’s next,” said Matt Beiler, a producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.
Sneak peek at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opens at Epcot just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration. The ride take you right into the movie.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Buckle up thrill-seekers, the TRON Lightcycle Run attraction will open soon at Magic Kingdom. Park visitors already marvel at the massive structure being built right next to Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. There is also already a version of the ride at Shanghai Disneyland. Riders are strapped into a vehicle that looks just like a lightcycle from the movie TRON.

Somebody Is Having A Birthday
If you hadnt already heard, Disney World has a pretty big celebration coming up soon: their 50th birthday!
That happens in 2021 and Disney has promised that this exciting new TRON attraction will be open by then.
Of course, since that date is so far out we dont know much more than that, but, we do know that construction on the project is underway and signs are even being spotted now in Magic Kingdom:
The attraction itself is based on the TRON Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland. The ride vehicles on that attraction are similar to the ones for Flight of Passage only instead of being stationary, they move. Heres a look a model ride vehicle at D23 in August 2019:
Also on display at D23 were the new costumes for Tron cast members. Check them out below:

Princess And The Frog Attraction
Splash Mountain is closing to welcome a new Princess and the Frog attraction. It will remain a log flume ride just like Splash Mountain, but will now take place in the Louisiana Bayou. The ride will feature Tiana and Louis as they take you on a fun musical journey of what happens just after the big kiss in the film. There is no set opening date for this ride yet, but prospective dates show 2022. Any attraction name ideas?

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
One of the most exciting projects on the docket will complete Star Wars: Galaxys Edge at Disneys Hollywood Studios.
Disney always constructed the themed land with a plan in place for an entire Star Wars experience, which includes a thematic hotel stay.
Since this project will make the company a lot of money, Disney maintained construction during the pandemic, even as other projects fell by the wayside.
We will all benefit from this decision, as Galactic Starcruiser remains on pace to open within the next calendar year.
In fact, at the end of March, Disney filed some paperwork that includes a completion date in January of 2022.
Now, Im trying not to read a lot into that fact. I cannot ignore the possibility that Disney believes the long-anticipated Star Wars Hotel could open this year, though.
At worst, this resort will debut during the first half of 2022. So, were at most 12 months away!

When Will The Tron Roller Coaster At Magic Kingdom Open
Update: The latest rumor is that TRON might be delayed until 2023. You can read the basis for the rumor here, and well say it makes sense, so lets call it a 50/50 shot between late 2022 and early 2023.
We now expect the new TRON coaster at Magic Kingdom to open in late 2022, during Walt Disney Worlds 50th Anniversary Celebrations, which extend from October 2021 through March 2023. With the new Remy Ratatouille ride at Epcot now open in Epcot, 2021 saw only one new ride.
While we had hoped for a July 9, 2022 debutcoinciding with the 40th anniversary of the release of the original TRON filmthat would appear to be out of the picture now that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is confirmed for summer 2022.
This leaves October 1, 2022, the 1-year anniversary of the 50th Anniversary celebrations as the most likely date.
Of course thats all speculation, but its literally all we have to go on right now. Disney is being silent on the issue, likely because they know a new coaster at Magic Kingdom is hugely valuable, and they want to time the debut just right.

A ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover gives guests of the Magic Kingdom an aerial view of the new attraction coming soon to Tomorrowland TRON Lightcycle Run! Even better is a true aerial view from @bioreconstruct on Twitter.
Though Disney has confirmed that this ride will not be open in time for the 50th Anniversary Celebration, progress can definitely be seen, in the new buildings, walkways, and the dome. The new projected opening date is set for 2022. While the delay is a bit disappointing, it looks like it will be well worth the wait! This attraction will emulate TRON Lightcycle Power Run, which is a semi-enclosed structure that debuted at Shanghai Disneyland when the park opened in 2016.

Disney World Construction Update: What’s Up With Tron
Walt Disney Imagineering’s Zach Riddley today posted a couple of construction photos of the upcoming TRON Lightcycle Run at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. They show the placement of the first canopy piece that will form the “Upload Conduit” wave structure over the outdoor portion of the roller coaster.
Space Mountain’s neighbor in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland will be Disney’s second installation of the Tron-themed coaster, following the original at Shanghai Disneyland.
Given the construction progress in Florida, we are estimating that the new coaster will be ready in time for the Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021, although Disney has yet to announce an official opening date for the ride.
Elsewhere at Disney World, we are looking at a spring or early summer opening for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and the expansion of the France pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. This ride is a clone of the Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy trackless dark ride at Walt Disney Studios Paris.
But the big new attraction at Epcot, the Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind indoor “story coaster” that’s going into the old Universe of Energy pavilion, won’t likely be ready just before Epcot’s 40th anniversary on October 1, 2022, according to our best estimates. Epcot’s new World Showcase Lagoon show, Harmonius, likely won’t debut until 2022, either assuming that Disney is doing big nighttime spectacular shows by then.

When Will It Open
Heres the big question: WHEN will TRON Lightcycle Run open? The attraction was originally slated to open in time for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World on October 1st. That came and went and TRON is still very much under construction. Now though, the opening remains unknown.
Construction of TRON: Lightcycle Run
With the closure of the Disney World parks for several months and the construction halt that came as a result of the global health crisis, TRON Lightcycle Run was likely met with delays and may not open in 2021. Disney has yet to announce an updated timeline.
Riding Tron Lightcycle Power Run
Now that youre actually on your lightcycle and ready to go, this is where the magic happens. Like many great roller coasters, Tron gets you off to a quick start with a launch directly from the tunnel. Hold on tight to the grips, lean forward, exhale and youre off into the grid!
The music that blares with the launch is awesome, with heave bass vibrations filling your head and shaking your body. Tron wastes no time to get you up to top speed, hitting 60 mph right at launch.
The position that riders find themselves in though is what makes this really special. If youve been on Flight of Passage before, then imagine that, but on a roller coaster track!
The ride is very smooth with no shaking or rattling action, making it an incredibly comfortable experience. The turns are fast and youll find yourself starring at all the effects throughout the canopy and the show building as you race the other train through the course.
My favorite effects of all though are when the lightcycle bikes themselves light up every time you pass through a gate, indicating your lightcycle has been successfully recharged for the next stretch. The whole thing is mesmerizing and will leave you in awe!

How Will The Tron Roller Coaster Impact Magic Kingdom Touring
This is the question that most interests me. The default assumption should be that this will be the most popular ride at Magic Kingdom when it debuts, and that it will be a paid individual Lightning Lane and the go-to for rope drop at Magic Kingdom.
Recent history has been spotty on virtual queues. Rise of the Resistance used a virtual queue. Then Mickey & Minnies Runaway Railway didnt use a virtual queue. Remys Ratatouille Adventure used a virtual queue. If I had to guess, Id guess that TRON will use a virtual queue.
In any case, TRON will draw even more crowds to this side of the park, which currently houses Space Mountain and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Rope drop strategy at Magic Kingdom will continue to be the samedo what you need to on this side and then hightail it out west while waits over there are low.

Will There Be Soft Openings For Tron Lightcycle Power Run
Disney from time to time has opened new rides early either to Annual Passholders, Cast Members, or to the media, to preview attractions before they open to the general public.
Cast Members will almost surely get to ride Tron before the opening because some live testing of the ride is required. However, its been hit or miss for annual passholder soft openings recently so there is no guarantee Disney will have them.
Again, we are still too far out from the opening to know right now, but as soon as Disney announces it, well let you know!

Tron Lightcycle Power Run Rollercoaster
The TRON Lightcycle Power Run Rollercoaster is coming to Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. The new coaster is going to occupy a completely new area in Tomorrowland next to Space Mountain and in order to get the construction moving, some modifications are being made to other attractions nearby.
The Walt Disney World Railroad is not currently running and the train has been parked at the Main Street Station since December of 2018. During this time, guests can take advantage of an up-close and personal look at the train along with one-of-a-kind photo opportunities that will be available.
The attraction has been tremendously popular since it opened in Shanghai Disneyland Park on June 16, 2016.
Magic Kingdoms Tron attraction, which is set to debut in time for Walt Disney Worlds 50th anniversary in 2021, is based on TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland. This coaster-style attraction allows riders to board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for a thrilling race through the digital frontier. TRON Lightcycle Power Run debuted on Shanghai Disneylands opening day and quickly became the highest-rated attraction at the park.
