Tron Disney World Opening Date

Where Will It Rank Among Disney Worlds Roller Coasters

TRON ROLLERCOASTER at Walt Disney World | Everything We Know So Far – Disney News – July 8, 2021

We have a post ranking Disney Worlds roller coasters, and Ive ridden TRON in Shanghai. Setting aside that we will have another new coasterGuardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewindon the list soon, and assuming the ride is identical to the Shanghai version, Id say TRON will fall around #2 or #3, competing with Rock n Roller Coaster.

A ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover gives guests of the Magic Kingdom an aerial view of the new attraction coming soon to Tomorrowland TRON Lightcycle Run! Even better is a true aerial view from @bioreconstruct on Twitter.

Though Disney has confirmed that this ride will not be open in time for the 50th Anniversary Celebration, progress can definitely be seen, in the new buildings, walkways, and the dome. The new projected opening date is set for 2022. While the delay is a bit disappointing, it looks like it will be well worth the wait! This attraction will emulate TRON Lightcycle Power Run, which is a semi-enclosed structure that debuted at Shanghai Disneyland when the park opened in 2016.

Will Tron At Magic Kingdom Be Identical To The Shanghai Version

TRON Lightcycle Power Run is already a ride in Shanghai Disneyland. It opened with the park on June 16, 2016.

We dont know, but presumably it will be very close. From whats been seen in construction and concept art, it looks substantially similar to the Shanghai ride, and theres been no indication that it will be different in any significant manner. But thats not to say a turn or two couldnt be changed.

Heres a look comparing a November 2019 construction photo to the Shanghai coaster:

How Will The Tron Roller Coaster Impact Magic Kingdom Touring

This is the question that most interests me. The default assumption should be that this will be the most popular ride at Magic Kingdom when it debuts, and that it will be a paid individual Lightning Lane and the go-to for rope drop at Magic Kingdom.

Recent history has been spotty on virtual queues. Rise of the Resistance used a virtual queue. Then Mickey & Minnies Runaway Railway didnt use a virtual queue. Remys Ratatouille Adventure used a virtual queue. If I had to guess, Id guess that TRON will use a virtual queue.

In any case, TRON will draw even more crowds to this side of the park, which currently houses Space Mountain and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Rope drop strategy at Magic Kingdom will continue to be the samedo what you need to on this side and then hightail it out west while waits over there are low.

What Is The New Tron Ride At Disney World

Tron Lightcycle Power Run Coaster Completion Date Revealed

Lightcycle Run is the new TRON ride in Disney World. It is a roller coaster-type attraction that will be behind Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. Bob Chapek, Disneys current CEO, announced the development of the ride at the 2017 D23 Expo. It seems like it will be an exact copy of the popular ride in Shanghai Disneyland that opened in June of 2016.

Riders will mount a two-wheeled, motorbike-style vehicle. Theyre similar in design to the ones on Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom. Imagineers modeled the bikes after the lightcycles seen in the TRON movies. Riders will straddle the bike, lean forward, and hold the handles. A back pad behind you will secure you in place on the bike. You will go through a digital-style, futuristic setting at up to 60 miles per hour. The 3,169 foot long track is partially indoors in the dark and partially outdoors, covered by a light-changing canopy.

Imagineers have given us a bit of a sneak peak of the details and what we can expect from this ride. So far, they have released what the ride vehicles and cast member costumes will look like. Following Disneys social media accounts is a great way to stay up to speed. They give regular updates on their Tik Tok, , and .

If you want to see it for yourself, you can get a birds-eye view of the progress via the People Mover in Tomorrowland. This slow-moving attraction overlooks the construction site.

Rumors Point To 2022 Opening Dates For Tron Lightcycle Run And Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

As the dust settles on the financial situation of The Walt Disney Company, credible rumors are circulating on the WDWMagic forums that would suggest that both TRON Lightcycle Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will miss their 50th Anniversary opening dates as Disney looks to continue to tighten their capital expenditures.

According to forum poster Seanual757, Disney will continue to work on weather sealing the TRON Lightcyle Run gravity building until this December, when construction will see a pause until October 2021. The poster claims to be a vendor on the project and has posted credible information in the past. The pause in construction is reportedly a holding period of sorts as The Walt Disney Company continues to monitor attendance and cash flow into 2021 to continue to fund the project.

To add to the rumors, known insider has suggested a 2022 timeline is in the works for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind over at EPCOT. The E-ticket attraction promises to blast guests back to the big bang in an energy-themed attraction that aptly takes over the former Universe of Energy attraction space.

Walt Disney World Shares Tron Coaster Updates

TRON Lightcycle / Run constuction at the Magic Kingdom

Imagineer Jerold Kaplan shared an update that push-pull testing is about to begin on the Vekoma Custom Designed Family Coaster.

The testing will ensure that TRON’s unique “lightcycle”-styled trains will have the appropriate clearance throughout the 3,169 feet of track. After that phase, Disney will move on to launch testing, followed by running weighted “dummies” on the coaster for test runs. It will be “several months” before actual test riders from the attraction’s design team take to the track.

Meanwhile, over on Instagram, Imagineer Angela Wu on the ride, which first appeared at Shanghai Disneyland when that park opened in 2016.

Walt Disney World has not yet announced an opening date for TRON Lightcycle Run, but based on today’s updates, a 2023 debut – probably in the first half of the year – appears most likely.

Having rode this a few times during my Shanghai visit, I never thought this ride was worth the rebuild in FL. The night rides were pretty spectacular due to the lighting elements. I just wish they had a few sharp/tight turns and maybe a dip or two to add a more thrilling component.

How Scary Is The Tron Coaster

Im usually a person that encourages everyone to try every attraction, at least once, but there is no doubt that the Tron roller coaster is definitely going to be scary for some guests.

Tron Lightcycle Power Run will immediately become one of the most intense rides in Disney World the minute it opens due to the high speeds at which the trains travel, and steep turns and drops. It also reaches heights of up to 70ft off the ground, so definitely not for the faint of heart.

It appears that crews working on Tron Lightcycle/Run, the much anticipated thrill ride coming soon to Tommorowland, also have a bit of vigor in their steps.

During a trip around the Tommorwland Transit Authority PeopleMover, MickeyBloggers got another great look at the enormous canopy. Providing the characteristic Grid for the attraction, the canopy not only serves as an important part in the rides storyline but also as a visual focal point now for the futuristic land.

Todays work is not for the faint of heart or those afriad of heights though. Crews sported a wealth of rigging equipment, including safety lines and harnesses.

Why Is Tron Coming To Mk

Lets face it, even though Disneys Magic Kingdom Park is the best park in Disney World for rides, theyve been in sore need of more attractions due to the high number of guests all the time in the park for years now.

When the majority of the best attractions in the park are all 25+ years old or more, you know you need some new additions.

This is a perfect storm for the Magic Kingdom because the Tron roller coaster is being built for the parks 50th-anniversary celebration, and it will be the centerpiece of the many enhancements Disney is trying to make.

Im also happy that Tomorrowland will finally get a little love, as it currently looks like anything but a vision of the future. The TRON franchise, while maybe not the traditional princess franchise that is so often found in the Magic Kingdom, actually fits in really well in Tomorrowland. It might have worked in Hollywood Studios or Epcot too, but in my opinion, this was the best home for it.

Tron is an imposing, dominating, and very attractive figure on the Shanghai Disneyland skyline, and it will have the same effect here in the Magic Kingdom too. Its bright lights and friendly screams will attract guests from all over the park and serve as the new Tomorrowland icon.

How Fast Is Tron Roller Coaster

To quote Top Gun: I feel the need, the need for speed. If high speeds are what you want, then this is going to be the ride for you. Just how fast is the Tron roller coaster ride?

The Shanghai version of Tron Lightcycle Power Run reaches speeds of just under 60 mph , making it the fastest Disney roller coaster in the world. Since the Magic Kingdom version of TRON is an exact copy, we can expect the same top speed.

If so, it will instantly make the TRON coaster, the fastest roller coaster in Walt Disney World, faster than both Rock n Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest.
