Some Things Are Under Refurbishment
If youre heading to the parks this month, there are a couple of refurbishments that you should know about. The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed since 2018 for Tron coaster construction in Magic Kingdom, and that closure will continue throughout the month of November.
Kali River Rapids
Also, Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom will be temporarily unavailable for its annual refurbishment from November 1st through mid-December. No specific end date for this closure has been given yet, either.
People Always Try To Sneak Their Kids On Rides
If you have to make the not-so-difficult choice between sitting out a ride with your baby or bringing them on board, sit it out every time. Unfortunately, may Disney guests don’t understand why trying to smuggle an infant onto rides is such a big deal.
“This couple were trying to ride Space Mountain, and had a black duffel bag. heard something come from the bag, so he asked them to open it. They refused. Security comes, forces them to open it. It was their 6-month-old baby,” says one Redditor. Multiple former employees report guests trying to do the same.
Walt Disney Inspired The Disney Point
If youve ever asked a Cast Member where to find something at a Disney park, you were undoubtedly shown the way with the infamous Disney point where the index and middle finger are used together. The theory for this is that pointing with your index finger may be misconstrued as rude to some guests. And while this is true, theres another reason for this specialized finger point at the Disney parks. The story goes that old photos used to show Walt Disney pointing to various attractions with a cigarette between his two fingers. But the company reportedly airbrushed the cigarette out of his fingers in pictures when the company wanted to dissociate itself from smoking. Now, the pictures just look like Disney always pointed people in the right direction using his two fingers.

If You Want To Spend A Bit Less
The budget figure given above $3,927 involves a stay at one of Disneys All-Star hotels, few-to-no table service meals , and a discounted ticket option. Its a relatively low target if youre booking a traditional Disney World stay.
To go below that, youll need to start thinking out of the boxbooking around only the best Disney deals booking non-Disney hotels or Airbnb waiting for deep deals on Priceline cutting a day off your tickets buying groceries and bringing your own food. We cover much of these in the rest of this guide in the appropriate sections.

Disney Has A Free App For Wait Times Entertainment Times Mobile Order And Dining Reservations
You may be hoping that youll be able to put your phone away when you Walt Disney World, but youll likely find that you need it more than ever.

In fact, we highly recommend you download the app and get familiar with it before you arrive.

The American Flags At Disney World Are Fake
Because real American flags must follow the national flag code, such as flying at half-mast during times of mourning, the ones at Disney were purposefully made to be missing a stripe or a star. That means the park doesn’t have to worry about flag etiquettebecause its flags are technically pennants.
People Love Taking Their Dead Relatives There
While this should go without saying, don’t use Disney as a burial ground. Numerous employees report catching guests dumping ashes on Disney property, particularly in the Haunted Mansion. “Please PLEASE leave your cremated loved ones at home. Stop dumping them in the Haunted Mansion,” pleads one employee. “They just get vacuumed up and disposed of.”

The Holidays Are Here
Its November, and in Disney World, that means the kickoff of the holiday season! The celebrations officially start on November 12th, although some snacks will arrive earlier than that and the Very Merriest After Hoursstarts on the 8th . Theres going to be quite a bit of excitement to check out, and we cant wait to share all of it!
The resorts will be fully decked out again this year, and the lifesize gingerbread displays are returning. Decorations will adorn the four theme parks and Sunset Seasons Greetings and the holiday Tree of Life Awakenings will both be lighting up the night sky. Well even be able to check out some festive flotillas and motorcades!

Theme park food can certainly be expensive, but there are some foods that are totally worth it. At Disney parks, there are secret menu items Disney fans can enjoybut stay on your toes, because the menu is constantly changing. You Can Only Meet The Beast In One Place
Unfortunately, you wont ever see the Beast step foot in any park. Sorry, Beauty and the Beast fans! In fact, the only place you can catch him is at the Be Our Guest Restaurant in Disney Worlds Magic Kingdom during dinnertime. But weve heard that dinner reservations go fast and you may have to book a table as early as 180 days in advance!
Open Up Caseys Corner With An Opening Pitch
Caseys Corner is known for its classic American food. With half a dozen variation of hot dogs including one thats been made into nuggets it serves up quite the iconic theme park food. And theme park food just so happens to nicely line up with the food served as sporting events.
Each morning, because Caseys Corner opens its doors, one lucky small guest can help to participate in Caseys Corners opening ceremony. One child is chosen to throw an opening pitch with a cast member and help lead the crowd in a rendition of the popular baseball song, Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Then, the little helper will be rewarded with a box of Cracker Jack and so will a bunch of other people in the hungry crowd!
Most Disney Rides Are Family
Are you concerned about not being able to enjoy big thrills and scary rollercoasters? Thankfully, Disney World has rides for every taste! The Best Moderate Disney World Resorts
For midlevel budgets, we like the Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort.
If you are okay at a resort without a major dose of Disney theming, we also enjoy the new Gran Destino Tower, which is the only Disney Moderate resort with a club lounge option.
And while we dont love everything about Disneys Caribbean Beach Resort, its a good example of what is available at a sprawling Disney Moderate resort.
The Moderate-level hotels usually set you back $200 to $300 per night during peak season.
Saving Time When The Sun Sets
Dont worry, there are opportunities for night owls as well.
One of the easiest ways to save time in the evening is to focus on the fireworks schedule. The crowds will gravitate toward the primary viewing areas, such as Main Street in Magic Kingdom, before the fireworks. That will thin some of the lines out.
Then, right as the fireworks start, the wait times on many rides will plummet. We scored a 15-minute wait on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a ride where the wait can easily stretch an hour or two, this way.
Just before closing, hop in one final line. As long as you are in line before the official closing time, Disney lets you finish your wait and ride the attraction. The wait times in the My Disney Experience app are notoriously inaccurate around closing time, usually overestimating your wait time.
For the time being, Disney World will continue to offer a bit of late-night access for certain resort guests. Be sure to check if your resort qualifies and what dates and parks this is available for. The parks really clear out in the evening for dedicated hours like this and you can get in a ton of rides in just an hour or two.
If you want to map out your perfect day at Disney World, check out Touring Plans, an organization tool with a lot of free resources . We used Touring Plans for our crazy ride-every-ride-at-Disney World charity fundraiser. When you consider how much youre spending for your Disney vacation, the additional $17.95 to maximize your time can be a wise investment.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach And Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks
Guests can plunge into a world of themed water fun. Challenge Summit Plummet. Snorkel with sharks in Shark Reef. Zoom down side-by-side racing slides. Or, float leisurely down a meandering river. For thrills or just chilling out, a day in a Walt Disney World Water Park is watery fun for one of the most popular theme parks in Florida.
You Can Leave A Park And Come Back
Even if you havent purchased a Park Hopper ticket, all guests are allowed to leave and return to the same park on the same day. If youre getting tired midday, this could be a great opportunity to head back to your hotel room and take a nap or a swim break. If youre driving, make sure to save your receipt so that you wont be charged twice for parking.
Walt Disney World Transportation:
The complementary system of buses, monorails, and boats transporting guests from all Walt Disney World hotel resorts to the four parks, two water parks, and entertainment facilities across the vast property. Each Walt Disney World hotel resort operates at least one bus station, which is the primary form of transportation to the parks. WDW buses arrive approximately every 20 minutes, and only select properties offer boat and monorail access a gondola system will debut at Walt Disney World in fall 2019.
The Best Deluxe Disney World Resorts
The cream of the crop is the three resorts on the Disney monorail: the Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. They usually cost more than other Deluxe resorts, but the convenience may be worth it if you need to sneak back to your room in the middle of the day for nap time .
The Polynesian Village Resort is wrapping up a pretty extensive renovation. The Moana-themed rooms are sure to be a hit, but know that the monorail stop at the resort is still closed for renovations.
There are other Deluxe resorts with unique characteristics.
They include Animal Kingdom Lodge, where you see native African animals right outside your window, and Disneys Beach Club, which includes a 3-acre waterpark with a lazy river and a 230-foot slide from the top of a pirate ship.
These top-tier Disney Deluxe resorts generally run from $300 to $500 per night, with rates occasionally dipping to the $200-$299 range.
If you are ready to really blow out the budget, the Copper Creek Cabins at Wilderness Lodge might be our absolute favorite.
Disney World Is Basically Its Own Self
To make EPCOT its own real city, Walt sought to gain some independence from the counties that his land straddled. He successfully petitioned the Florida state legislature to create the Reedy Creek Improvement District , which would give the Walt Disney Company self-governance within its borders. This led to the creation of the cities of Bay Lake and Reedy Creek , which are part of the RCID.
This is all legal and very complicated, and the Wikipedia page does a way better job explaining how this all went down, but all you need to know is Walt didnt play around.
Pricing Disney World Tickets
Disney prices Walt Disney World tickets on a date-and-length based system. Discount ticket brokers also price tickets this way. Now, when you purchase a ticket it will:
have a start date at which it becomes valid
have an end datethe date by which your visits must be complete
have a set number of days you can visit the parks during that window.
You choose the start date and the number of park days. The end date is automatically set by the system. Price is determined by the number of park days and the start date.
So, for example, a five-day park hopper ticket with a start date of November 11 can be used on any five days during the eight-day range of November 11 through November 18. That ticket costs $646.81 for an adult directly through Disney and $609.52 through Undercover Tourist. Party and event tickets vary based on date and event but typically cost between $150 and $250 per person.
The Spooky Secrets Of The Haunted Mansion
Disney Imagineers had a blast hiding tons of Disney secrets in the dark, spooky realms of the Haunted Mansion. There are a lot of spooky shadows, odd bats, and hidden Mickeys . But the first real Disney secret is that the Haunted Mansion ride at Walt Disney World actually stretches up. Its not an elevator that takes you up, as in Disneyland California or Disneyland Pairs. It stretches.
Theres also a tribute to Mr. Toad in the Haunted Mansion. As many Disney fans know, Mr. Toads ride was replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Not only did Mr. Toad get a tribute at that ride, but hes also buried in the pet cemetery at the Haunted Mansion.
Then, theres the invisible piano player whose shadow is still somehow visible, the hands on the clock that are actually fingers, and the invisible horse leading the carriage in the courtyard. And Im sure there are more Disney secrets hidden in the Haunted Mansion that havent been figured out yet.
Disney World Proved That Theme Parks Could Be Vacation Destinations
The creation of Disney World changed Florida, and it also changed theme parks and the entertainment industry. Carissa Baker, an assistant professor who studies theme parks at the University of Central Florida, says Walt Disney pioneered the concept of synergy.
“He creates…the Disneyland TV show in 1954, which kind of sells the idea of the Disneyland Park,” Baker says. “But all of these movies and TV shows that are on the Disneyland TV shows were of course his previous properties. So now, you’re kind of tying all this together.”
Baker says Disney World also showed that by adding hotels and more attractions, theme parks could become vacation destinations, a place where families can spend a week or more without ever leaving the Disney bubble.

Matt Jason, from New York City, was recently visiting Disney World for third time since he first visited as a child. He and his family planned to spending five days there.
“Right now, I’m going with my daughter so she can learn to be there and learn to love it,” he says.
“The average wage in metro Orlando is beneath the state average which is beneath the national average,” Rick Foglesong says. “That’s the legacy of tourism and relying upon tourism as the basis of your economy.”
Cinderella Castle Is Practically Empty
The most iconic amusement park building on the planet holds only a restaurant, a gift shop, and the ghost of Walt Disney’s would-be apartment. Designers built an apartment for Walt into the castle plan, but he died before its completion. That space was later turned into a hotel room that’s literally impossible to stay a night in, unless you win one.
The Parks Use A Scent Machine To Fully Engage Your Senses
Your sense of smell is so closely tied to your emotions that the Imagineers at Disney decided no experience would be complete without an olfactory element. That’s why you shouldn’t be alarmed if you pick up the distinct smell of popcorn on Main Streeteven when there’s no popcorn truck to be found. Blame it on Disneyland’s Smellitzer, a machine that emits a range of scents at different park attractions.
