The Complete Guide To Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxys Edge
The Rides, the Food, the Shops, Visiting Tips, and More
It is among the most popular movie franchises of all time. It appeals to multiple generations and is beloved by ardent and casual fans alike. Now, it has its own theme park land. Make that two theme park lands.
Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, located at Disneyland Park in California and Disneys Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida, brings the galaxy far, far away to life here on Earth and invites visitors to experience their own Star Wars adventures. It is like stepping into the movies or interacting with your playset IRL.
The two lands are essentially identical and, at 14 acres each, represent Disneys largest expansion devoted to a single creative property. Estimated to cost a cool $1 billionthats for each locationthey are also likely the most expensive single-themed lands the company has created.
Galaxys Edge follows a trend that was largely started by Universal when it opened the first Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure in 2010. Instead of developing one movie-based attraction , Universal built an entire, encompassing land where everything is dedicated to the story. You can’t buy a King Kong, Minions, or generic Universal Orlando T-shirt, nor can you purchase a Coke or a slice of pizza in the Wizarding Worlds, because those items wouldnt be for sale in Harry Potters real realm. You can, however, pick up a Hogwarts robe, a wand, or a butterbeer.
Upgrading Star Tours To The 21st Century
While the purchase that rocked the galaxy was still two years out, Disney decided to move ahead with an upgrade that, in all honesty, was always intended for Star Tours. One of the advantages of using a flight simulator as the base for Star Tours is that its reprogrammable something which Imagineers noted back when the ride was still going to be Black Hole themed. One of the reasons the ride had an airport-inspired in the first place was the possibility of multiple destinations.
However, the sheer amount of work it took to complete the original ride film with late 80s special effects meant that adding other destinations like Hoth or Tatooine would be impractical. By 2010, however, technology had improved to the point that entire ride sequences could be done in CG, greatly reducing production time. The prequels also provided a plethora of new set pieces, including the Boonta Eve Podrace. The result was an innovative, randomized ride experience.

Overview And Location Of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge At Walt Disney World
If the name is any indication, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is literally on the edge of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, opposite the park’s entrance and adjacent to Toy Story Land. There are two entrances to the land. You can enter either through Toy Story Land or Grand Avenue .
From either entrance, watch as the landscape begin to change, welcoming you to someplace far, far away. Guests will find themselves in the Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. This once-thriving settlement is now home to smugglers, rogue traders, droids and other strange creatures trying to stay out of sight of the First Order. The remote outpost takes its name from the petrified spires that were once ancient, towering trees surrounding the river valleys and plains. As a fellow traveler, you’ll be able to visit a street market, shop in the food stalls and enjoy treats such as Blue Milk or head over to Oga’s Cantina for a drink.

The Opening Of Galaxys Edge
Finally, in May 2019, Star Wars: Galaxys Edge opened at Disneyland Park, allowing guests to step into the world of Star Wars for the first time.
The park represented the most ambitious, immersive project Disney ever built, with every element being a painstaking recreation of the Star Wars universe. Unlike previous attractions, which included nods to Disney in the form of cheeky souvenirs, everything about Batuu is all Star Wars, all the time.
Even the rides are fully immersive, with Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run allowing you to take the iconic ship on a joyride, and Rise of the Resistance allowing you to escape a Star Destroyer during an epic battle. Its quickly become one of the most popular attractions on both coasts and its nowhere near done.
Understand How To Secure A Spot On Both Of The Rides
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, a fast-paced smuggling mission where you ride in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, has transitioned to Disney’s fast pass system, meaning you can book a time slot to climb on board in advance of your visit. But don’t worry, there’s also a stand-by line if you aren’t able to secure a reservation just be prepared to wait in line for a few hours during busy times.
The newest addition to the area, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, requires guests to be at the park prior to its opening, then to hop into the My Disney Experience App when opening time arrives to attempt to get into a “boarding group.” We’ve seen reports of people lining up hours before Hollywood Studios opens to secure a spot, so keep an eye on what others report on social media prior to your visit so you can plan accordingly. Within minutes of the park opening, boarding groups for the day fill up and you’re out of luck. There’s also no stand-by line for the attraction at this time, so it’s boarding group or bust.
Pro tip: When boarding groups are filled, Hollywood Studios will place signs throughout the park entrance area letting guests know. And, the same information will be reflected in the My Disney Experience app.

Embrace your journey through Planet of Batuu and speak to those living on this planet. Did you know that each cast member has his own fictional backstory? Youre missing out if you dont take some time to visit with a few of them.
There are several ways to get their attention. Use the language and youre sure to stand out among the crowds. Here are four phases you can try:

2) Dont say Good evening. Instead, use Rising moons.
3) Want to say Til we meet again? Say Til the Spire.
4) Instead of Good luck, say Good run.
Youll want to keep your eye out for the stormtroopers walking around theyve been known to interrogate guests of Planet Batuu. You can also find Chewbacca, Rey and Kylo Ren inside the park.
‘star Wars’ Expansion Coming To Disney Theme Parks
“Star Wars” fans have more than just a new movie to look forward to next year. Disney says it will announce major plans for more “Star Wars” in the company’s theme parks.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said during an earnings call on Tuesday that the company is “developing designs for a far greater ‘Star Wars’ presence in the parks,” according to multiple reports.
When we grow Star Wars” presence, which we will do significantly, you will see better bets being made that will pay off for us than were made in the past, Iger said, according to Variety.
Details of the expansion will not be revealed until next year.
Jay Rasulo, Disney’s finance chief and senior executive vice president, said attractions based on major franchises draw guests.
“They pull people from, ‘Gee, I’m gonna go someday’ to ‘I’m gonna go this year,'” Rasulo said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“Star Wars” already has a significant presence in Disney parks around the world. The “Star Tours” simulator ride is in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, Disneyland in California, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. The Florida and California parks also have an interactive show called “Jedi Training Academy.”
In addition, Disney’s Hollywood Studios plays host to “Star Wars Weekends,” an annual event featuring shows, parades and a massive store called “Darth’s Mall.”

Where Does Galaxys Edge Take Place In The Star Wars Timeline
Unlike Universal Orlandos Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is content to reside in a hazy, unspecified period of time within its source material, Galaxys Edge exists at a very specific point in the Star Wars timeline: namely, some five months after Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, which places it seven months before Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, the last chapter of the mainline series. This means that guests should not only expect to see the sequels cast of characters show up in the theme-park lands various attractions and experiences, but that some of Galaxys Edges story elements just may end up getting touched upon in that trilogys final installment. In this way, fans could essentially call the new themed area Episode 8.5.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise At Walt Disney World
It’s been well-reported that Disney Imagineers made trips to Istanbul and Marrakesh for inspiration in creating Black Spire Outpost’s marketplace, a collection of shops and merchant stalls. More animatronics serve as shop keepers, such as the Toydarian presiding over the toy store. As you’re walking through the marketplace, it really feels like you’re somewhere else in the galaxy, with a one-eyed Dianoga lurking in the water fountain and other alien critters in the Creature Stall.
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
Wheeler-dealer Ithorian Dok-Ondar presides over rare and unique items and antiquities from across the galaxy. This is where you can find additional kyber crystals and holocrons, as well as the popular legacy lightsabers which are replicas of popular Star Wars characters. It’s worth a stop to take in the creatures within, including Dok himself.
Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a grown frog or youngling you will get emotional during this experience. Boy, I sure did. Inside Savi’s Workshop, you will be able to customize your own lightsaber under the guidance of one of the Masters, who have extensive knowledge in Jedi lore. But keep this on the down-low! Outside of the workshop, you should refer to lightsabers as “scrap metal” so the First Order does not suspect you. The experience costs $219.99, plus tax and reservations are available online starting 60 days in advance.
