Star Wars At Disney World In Florida

Desantis Says Florida Will Take Over Disneys Autonomous District

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opens at Walt Disney World

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, 6-year-old me went to see Santa Claus at a local department store in London. They always made his grotto something special, and this year, theyd chosen a theme from a new TV program that was seriously trending: Dr. Who!

We were taken on a journey into space before being ushered into Dr. Whos Tardis. Stars were flying by the windows, the spacecrafts machinery was all whooshy, and there was even a gutted Dalek we could sit in.

I bought into it completely. Santa was in the Tardis a blue police box thats bigger on the inside and can travel through time and space! One that I had seen on TV! And that had been on incredible imaginative journeys to other worlds inhabited by amazing aliens! Some of which try to kill you!

Honestly, it was fantastic.

Make the jump to lightspeed into 2022, and now Im going into the Star Wars universe aboard a Galactic Starcruiser called the Halcyon. She will take guests on a cruise through the outer rim during a fully immersive three-day, two-night, all-inclusive stay, featuring space pod cabins, themed entertainment and experiences and, yes, stars flying past the windows.

Characters from the Star Wars sequel movies will be there, as will a plethora of franchise-recognizable aliens, First Order officers and renegade resistance fighters.

When plans for the hotel adventure were announced in 2019 for a 2021 opening, it was overwhelmingly met with anticipation and awe.

Shopping At Star Wars: Galaxys Edge In Orlando

Star Wars: Path Of The Jedi

Star Wars: Path of the Jedi – a movie shown at Disney’s HOllywood Studios featuring the highlights from all of the Star Wars films.

A new movie put together using footage from all of the Star Wars movies that shows the journey of Luke Skywalker from farm boy to Jedi Knight. The movie was about 10 minutes long and as a Star Wars fan, I thought it was a great montage of the whole storyline. If you have someone with you that has never seen a Star Wars movie , this movie will catch them right up! The movie is showing in the theater right across from Indian Jones Epic Stunt Encounter.

Get The Photopass Image

If youve purchased the Memory Maker and plan on getting your pictures taken by the PhotoPass Cast Members, we highly suggest getting the PhotoPass photos taken inside of Star Wars: Galaxys Edge. There is a special Tiny World Magic Shot that you can get which captures the Black Spire Outpost and its surrounding landscape in a single image. Its a pretty incredible shot that youre not going to want to miss out on. Get in line early for it because those lines were longer than most food lines!

Only Walt Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge Is Getting The Galactic Starcruiser

The Star Wars Disney Theme Park Is a Little Too Authentic

Ok, so this one isn’t a current difference, but it is on the way, and when it gets here it’s going to be huge. Only Walt Disney World is getting the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a new location that is equal parts hotel and theme park in its own right. The spot will see guests take on the roles of travelers aboard a luxury starcruiser, being able to take advantage of various amenities and activities over the course of a couple of days. One of those activities will be a shore excursion to the planet Batuu.

While it’s unclear what difference the Galactic Starcruiser will play for those who aren’t actually staying there, it will likely be a very big difference for those who are, and its presence will certainly be felt simply by being visible. It will likely make Galaxy’s Edge feel very different at Walt Disney World since there won’t be a corresponding location at Disneyland.

Unless you are desperate for a shot of rum in your Blue Milk , these differences between the two lands are unlikely to really make you have a different experience. At the same time, each of these differences are very noticeable. If you go to Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World then, much like Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom, they will feel similar, but they will also feel strangely different, like you stepped into a parallel universe and found yourself in a slightly different version of a place you thought you knew so well.

The Layout At Disney World And Disneyland Is Slightly Different

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge takes up just about the same amount of space at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. In fact, if you were standing in the middle of Black Spire Outpost, the two locations would look largely identical however, the further out you go, the more differences you will see. The Outpost itself is largely the same, but the surrounding countryside, and Galaxy’s Edge is so big there is countryside, is a bit different.

You’ll find A-wing and X-wing fighters on display in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, but their respective locations, especially in relation to Rise of the Resistance, are slightly different. If you’ve been to one Galaxy’s Edge and find yourself walking through the other, it feels different enough that you might feel vaguely confused. Almost as if something is in the wrong place.

Are There Any Expansions Planned For Star Wars: Galaxys Edge

Yes! Construction is well underway on Disneys Star Wars themed hotel, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. A 2022 opening date has been announced, but you cant make reservations just yet. We do know its unlike any other hotel at Disney, though.

Youll check in for a two-night adventure aboard the Halcyon, a high-end starcruiser that will immerse you into the world of Star Wars. Every corner of the hotel is themed, including your sleeping cabin, which features a window with views into deep space. You will also be able to board a transport for a planet excursion on Batuu, as the hotel is conveniently located just behind Hollywood Studios theme park.

An immersive Star Wars dining experience is also planned aboard the new Disney Wish cruise ship, which will make its debut in 2022 as well.

Dining And Drinking In Galaxys Edge

There is much more to do in Galaxys Edge on Black Spire Outpost than just ride attractions. Eating and drinking on planet is about more than scarfing a burger when youre hungry or chugging a soda because youre hot and thirsty.

The food and drink sold in Batuu is part of the experience of visiting. Disney chefs have specially curated each dish to enhance your immersive experience and stay in line with the meticulous theming. Lets take a look at some of the offerings.

Star Wars At Disney Springs

Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser resort begins voyages March 1

Youll find the largest assortment of toys and games in all of Walt Disney World Resort at Once Upon a Toy at Disney Springs, including a whole room filled with Star Wars merchandise. One of the more interesting Star Wars souvenirs in the store is something you have to build yourself.

The Build Your Own Lightsaber kiosk invites guests to construct a custom lightsaber with different blade, hilt covers and adapters to choose from. You can even construct a lightsaber with a crossguard like the one Kylo Ren wields in Star Wars: The Force Awakens or a dual lightsaber like the one Darth Maul uses in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace.

Eating In Galaxys Edge

During normal times, the lunch line for Docking Bay 7, the only true quick-service restaurant in the land, can stretch out of the building. Youll currently be restricted to mobile ordering, though we expect in-person ordering to return in the months ahead.

Here are our favorite food items in Galaxys Edge. Hint: The blue and green milk are not our favorite items, but can be worth trying once if youre a Star Wars fan. Also note that this area isnt the best place to eat if your crew is craving theme park staples like burgers and fries.

I recommend the sausage wraps from Rontos for a quick and tasty bite. In fact, it is one of our favorite grab-and-go foods at Disney World. Theres also a new vegetarian version of the wrap that gets high marks. If you just want a snack, the red and purple popcorn isnt bad, either. Its a good idea to use mobile ordering to order in advance here, too.

Join The First Order Or The Resistance At Star Wars Galaxys Edge

One of the best parts of visiting Star Wars Galaxys Edge in Disneys Hollywood Studios is not just witnessing but participating in the adventure. Disney has designed it this way, and we hope that you see how much that is true from this article. We strongly encourage you to dress up, learn the lingo, and interact as much as possible to get the most out of your time there.

Whichever side you choose, whenever you decide to visit, and whatever you do while youre there, youre sure to be delighted by Galaxys Edge. That is true regardless of whether you and your family are already huge Star Wars fans or not. By the time you leave, we promise you will be!

Ogas is the only dining location that requires advance reservations, and you can make those up to 60 days ahead of your visit. Ronto Roasters

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

This outdoor stand near Ogas Cantina is the spot to find the blue and green milk youve seen all over Instagram. These Batuuan beverages are more like fruit smoothies than milk, and grown-ups can order the blue milk with rum or green milk with tequila.

Play The Games On Disneys Play App

If you havent downloaded the Disneys Play App you definitely should. Play games throughout all of the Disney Parks with the app. When you arrive at Galaxys Edge, the game becomes the Star Wars: Datapad, which gives you the chance to interact with Star Wars: Galaxys Edge on a whole new level!

You can use the app to translate a variety of languages, scan objects all around the spaceport, take on jobs and so much more! You can even join fellow travelers to Planet of Batuu as they support the side theyve chosen. The only question for you is, will you pledge your loyalty to the First Order or will you support the Resistance?

The Color Scheme Is Different At Both Theme Parks

While both theme parks are supposed to be representing the same place– a planet called Batuu — at the same time — a spot in the Star Wars timeline between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker — they don’t actually look exactly the same. The colors used at Disney’s Hollywood Studios pop a bit more, while at Disneyland the stone that makes up the exterior of Black Spire Outpost are more muted. More than likely this was done to help the land stand out more in the wildly different climates of Southern California and Central Florida.

Yet that’s not all, even very specific choices, like say, the look of the podracer engine being used to cook meat at Ronto Roasters, isn’t the same in both spots. Disneyland’s engine, like the rest of the land, is a more pale blue, like the engine has been sitting out in the sun for a long time. The coloring at Hollywood Studios is much darker. And that’s not all, they’re technically not even the same engine, as the Aurebesh symbol on the two engines is not the same.

Docking Bay 7 Food And Cargo

Docking Bay 7 is much closer to what youre used to seeing in Disney parks its a more traditional quick-serve restaurant with a wider variety of menu options, including full meals and those designed for kids. If you have a dining plan, its the best place to use a quick-serve meal in Galaxys Edge.

Their offerings include stylized fare like Batuuan Beef and Crispy Topato Stir-Fry, Roasted Endorian Chicken Salad, and Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread. Their kids menu includes spaghetti and fried chicken , both served with sides. They also serve a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic specialty beverages.

Finally, Disney didnt skimp on the theming with your surroundings here, either. The restaurant looks like an actual hangar for all kinds of spacecraft. As you eat, be sure to take in the sights and sounds around you that add to the immersive nature of this land.

When To Arrive On The Day Of Your Visit

First Look: Inside the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser at Disney

We strongly recommend arriving at the park early. You no longer have to stress about getting a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance , but you still want to be through the gates and at least on your way to Galaxys Edge before the park officially opens.

That maximizes your chances of riding one of the lands massively popular attractions without a long wait. Aim to arrive about 30-60 minutes before the park opens.

Purchase A Unique Gift Card

This is one of our most favorite tips for visiting Galaxys Edge. This is a fun and unique souvenir that ends up being FREE. Visit the Droid Depot and purchase a Spira Metal gift card. You have to load the card with a minimum of $100, which is the same price as a Droid, so if youre going to build a Droid, purchase the gift card first and then use it to pay for the Droid you built. The gift card can be used in any of the Disney theme parks it is NOT limited to purchases made within Galaxys Edge. If youre planning to spend at least $100 in the parks then this souvenir ends up being FREE.
