Overview Of Disney World Parks

Walt Disney World Resort

Walt Disney World Parks Overview

Walt Disney World Resort is the most visited and largest recreational resort in the world, containing four theme parks, two water parks, twenty-three themed hotels, and numerous shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation venues. Owned and operated by the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment of The Walt Disney Company, it is located southwest of Orlando, Florida, USA. The property often is abbreviated Walt Disney World, Disney World or WDW.

It opened on , 1971, with the Magic Kingdom theme park, and has since added Epcot , Disney’s Hollywood Studios , and Disney’s Animal Kingdom .

Which Park Is Best In Disney World

Which park is best at Disney World is highly subjective and will vary from person to person. Our all-time favorite park is EPCOT, but the park is very different now from when we were young. We will wait until the big EPCOT expansion project is finished before judging it.

Right now Disneys Hollywood Studios is by far the most popular park, with thousands of people coming each day to see Star Wars: Galaxys Edge and the Rise of the Resistance ride.

Our Disney World Rides and Attractions Guide will give you more info and tips for all the rides.

Things You Dont Have To Worry About

While there may be some adjustments you need to make to accommodate for the lack of Park Hopping, there are several things you do not have to worry about because of this change.

Often, guests will pick the Parks they want to visit that day based on operating hours, typically selecting the Park thats open the latest. These days, the Parks are all open for the same length of time each day, so theres no need to worry about Extra Magic Hours, late evenings, etc.

Unless youre heading back to your Resort for a break, no Park Hopping means less hassle with midday transportation. It can take an hour to hop from Park to Park, which ordinarily cuts into your precious vacation time. Having an entire day devoted to only one Park means you can relax even more knowing theres no rush to get anywhere else.

Speaking of rushing: if theres one benefit no Park Hopping brings you, its that there is no need to feel like you have to cram everything into one day. You have more time on your hands than you may realize, and with proper planning, youll be able to get everything done.

Do you like to Park Hop when visiting Disney World? Or are you accustomed to doing only one park per day? Let us know in the comments!

Best Time To Visit Disney World

Disney World has evolved into a destination where theres always something going on, so there is no true off-season.

On top of the rides, shows and characters to occupy your time, there are festivals, marathons, waterparks, more festivals and holiday parties. The best time to visit Disney World is going to be highly dependent on what you want to accomplish. If holiday decorations are your thing, you might think that December around Christmas is the time to visit Disney World. But, that isnt necessarily the case.

If you want decorations without the crowds that come with the Christmas holidays, know that Disney World usually transforms the Magic Kingdom from Halloween to Christmas the night after Halloween.

Not all of the decor across the parks and resorts is finished on Nov. 1 or 2, but much of it is up by the end of the second week of November. Youll generally find the parks a bit quieter in November and early December compared to the true holiday season.

If youre an adult, the festivals in the spring and fall at Epcot are a great way to eat, drink and adult your way around the world in a leisurely way. Those who enjoy running and races will want focus on January as marathon season, including themed runs for popular characters such as princesses or Star Wars characters.

Hotel pricing at Disney World resort properties generally follows the same trajectory as the ticket prices.

Consider An Annual Pass

If you are planning a longer Disney World trip, or think you will have two trips within 12 months, it can make sense to seriously consider a Disney World annual pass at least for one member of the family. An annual pass can not only cover the cost of admission for the passholder, but also unlock discounts on dining, purchases, resort stays and more for the whole family.

Disney World recently revamped the annual pass offerings. If you dont live in Florida or arent a Disney Vacation Club member, the choice is easy. Theres only one option, the Incredi-Pass, which will set you back $1,299 plus tax. That might seem like a lot of cash, but keep in mind that covers more than your park tickets. Youll also get free parking at all of the parks and up to a 20% discount on food and beverage, as well as merchandise, for your entire party . For a $99 add-on you get unlimited photo downloads for everyone in your group.

Multiply a 10% or 20% discount across a family of four, or even a larger group, and the savings really add up. Plus, if you schedule a second trip 11 months from your first one, youll get unlimited access to the parks and all those discounts again. Or, you can be crazy like us and head to visit your favorite mouse once a month.

Things To Do In Animal Kingdom

My favorite element of Disneys Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, besides the gorgeous natural landscapes and animals, is the majestic Tree of Life that stands in the center of the park.Hundreds of animal hand carvings decorate this tree, and one of our favorite things to do is count and see how many we can spot. This is the biggest park and offers opportunities to interact with the animals, from the walking paths of Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail to Rafikis Planet Watch, where you can learn about medical research and actually pet the animals. The Tree of Life is 145 feet tall with over 8,000 branches and ~102,000 artificial leaves.

Worst Disney Moderate Resorts

The Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Lodge

The Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Lodge offer guests a chance to get away from all of the excitement of the Disney parks and embrace a bit of nature. However, the price point of these cabins may be a bit more than most guests would be willing to pay for a Disney moderate resort.

The onsite activities offered at this Disney World resort definitely make use of this amazing setting. You can try your hand at archery, explore the lake with a canoe or kayak rentals, experience a pony ride, or enjoy an awesome campfire sing-a-long.

While the location is amazing, the cabin also comes fully stocked with amenities. Enjoy access to a full kitchen , a full living room, and a private patio. To make your vacation a little easier, remember to pre-order groceries before your stay.

The Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Lodge only offer one type of room option: a cabin for six. And while that room option is wonderful if you have six people, if youre a couple looking for a nice weekend cabin getaway, its definitely not ideal to have to pay for extra for a cabin that sleeps six.

Because the Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Lodge sleep six , the price is quite a bit higher than the other Disney moderate resorts. In other words, if youre hoping to stay at a Disney moderate resort to save a little bit of money, you probably shouldnt stay at the Cabins at Disneys Fort Wilderness Lodge.
