Off Site Disney World Hotels

Is There A Downside To Staying Off

Top 5 Off-Site Hotels Near Disney World

There are definitely perks that you will miss out on if you stay off-site. And the key to all of them is CONVENIENCE. These are some of the downsides to staying at an off-site hotel:

1) You wont have access to Magical Express, which takes guests from Orlando International Airport to their Disney World Resort .

2) You may miss out on reserving your FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance. Only a handful of the hotels allow you access to FastPass+ reservations 60 days out. Most require you to wait until 30 days out .

3) You may not be as close to the parks, or have shuttles that run as often as Disney resorts.

4) You may not have access to Early Park Entry, which allows guests to enter the parks 30 minutes early if they are staying at a Disney Resort or participating third party resort.

Renaissance Orlando At Seaworld

If your plans also include SeaWorld, Id definitely recommend staying at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld. It offers a fabulous pool area/water park for kids, an arcade, several restaurants, and a spa. The rooms are a bit larger than a standard hotel room, and some offer views of SeaWorld. You can walk right across the street to SeaWorld, making it so convenient if you plan to visit there. Read reviews and book your stay here.

Understand Disney World Theme Park Reservations Before Booking On Or Off

Disney World now has a theme park reservation system. Guests must purchase theme park tickets plus make a theme park reservation for each day they visit Disney World parks.

There are three buckets for theme park reservations: Disney World resort guests, annual passholders, and theme park tickets. People staying off-site at Disney World are considered theme park tickets unless someone is an annual passholder. Make sure that you can get Disney World theme park reservations under theme park tickets before booking an off-site stay.

Disney Dolphin Hotel Review

When can I come back? Those are my first thoughts upon first laying my eyes on this resort complex. It is beautiful, welcoming and so close to all the Disney World action. I kept telling myself that I have been missing so much by not staying here.

If you are looking for hotels near Disney, I highly suggest you read this Disney Dolphin review and see if it meets your needs.

The Disney World Dolphin hotel is part of the Swan/Dolphin resort complex located between Epcot and Hollywood Studios in the Disney Boardwalk area. It is NOT a Disney World Resort, but rather part of the Marriott/Starwood hotel collection.

What makes these hotels unique is that you can use hotel loyalty points to stay for free AND they give you several onsite Disney resort benefits as they are official Disney World hotels.

The two hotels are separated by a walkway, but guests are free to use the facilities at both hotels. The Dolphin Resort resembles more of a larger, conference hotel whereas the Swan is more intimate.

The First Decision: Staying On Disney Property Or Off Site

DISNEY WORLD | TOP 5 OFF SITE HOTELS

There are clear advantages to each choice, depending on your vacation style and budget. The best off site Disney World hotels offer better value on one hand as well as a more luxury experience than Disney resorts.

Disney resorts certainly have advantages. While Disney resorts are strong in location, park transportation, earlier Fastpass availability, off site resorts offer much more competitive rates for those seeking value. How luxe are the Disney deluxe resorts? For those seeking luxury, the offsite resorts offer a five-star level of service that the Disney resorts do not.

We break this down for you.

I have stayed at over 30 Orlando properties in order to find the best. If they were not ones I would return to, they are not on this list. I have covered a variety for varying budgets and vacation needs.

Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace

Our first stop in this group is the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace, not to be confused with the option we covered above . The palace Hilton is a step up from the Lake Buena Vista hotel.

Like its sister resort across the street, the hotel is within walking distance to Disney Springs. Guests can take the elevated walking path over to access dining and shopping.

This Hilton does offer scheduled transportation to the Disney Parks. You can view the schedule here. However, I really dont recommend using a shuttle service when staying off-site.

Additionally, this resort partcipates in the early theme park benefit as well. Guests staying here can access the theme parks 30 minutes early during Walt Disney Worlds 50th anniversary celebration.

As for Buena Vista Palace, you can expect various room types, from standard rooms to island suites and tower suites.

The Buena Vista Palaces pool, the Float Lagoon, is a zero-entry pool that provides a lazy river of sorts for guests to float around. Floats are complimentary. In addition, the hotel has a nice fitness center for those who might want to get a workout or two in on vacation.

Our Top Tips For Staying Off

If youre planning to stay at any one of the hundreds of off-site hotels in Orlando, there are some things to consider before you make your reservation. Here are our best tips for staying off-site at Disney World.

Getting Around

You’ll need to consider two things when it comes to transportation: How are you getting to your hotel from the airport? And, how are you getting to the parks from your hotel? If the hotel offers transportation to and from the airport and has complimentary shuttle service to and from the parks, awesome! If not, you’ll want to consider renting a car or utilizing a ride share service like Uber or Lyft. Be sure to do a cost comparison, keeping things like hotel and theme park parking fees in mind. If you have tadpoles, a rental car may make things more convenient simply from a carseat perspective, as not all ride share services will have one available for use .

Location, Location, Location

How far away is your hotel from the theme parks you’re planning to visit? The address may say Orlando, but its a large city. Long drives with sleepy tadpoles aren’t fun for anyone! If you’ll be visiting more than one theme park or attraction, make sure you consider where you’re staying in relation to all of your destinations. And don’t froget to factor in traffic!

What’s more, pay attention to what’s around the hotel . If you’re looking for a room with a kitchen, see where the nearest grocery store is to be able to stock up.

Disneys Hollywood Studios Celebrates With A Vintage Approach

11 Best (And Worst!) Off

When you enter Disneys Hollywood Studios, its as if youve been transported to the glitz and glamour of old Hollywood and the parks holiday decor follows suit. Think silver tinsel, sparkly stars, and cutesy reindeer and figurines placed around the park.

There are themed treats at venues around the park, and you can dine with characters at Minnies Holiday Dine at the Hollywood & Vine restaurant. While you eat, Minnie, Mickey, Pluto, and Santa Goofy mingle through the dining room, dancing to holiday tunes.

You can meet Santa at various times throughout the day as he travels down Hollywood Boulevard in his red convertible. Each evening, the facade of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction displays a Sunset Seasons Greetings show with various holiday projections that will alternate with the 50th anniversary Beacon of Magic projections, similar to Magic Kingdom.

Two more benefits that are offered at both Disney World Resort hotels and select off-site hotels include Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Theme Park Hours.

Unlike Extra Magic Hours , Early Theme Park Entry allows guests to enter any park 30 minutes before it opens every day. So, guests have the opportunity to beat the line at popular attractions or just enjoy the park without huge crowds early in the morning.

There Are Fun Resort Activities

One of the best things about staying at a Disney resort is the fun family activities going on all day long, every single day. The schedule changes monthly, but you can always expect to see things like poolside games, Disney trivia, campfires and movies under the stars.

Some resorts also have free scavenger hunts that give you the chance to explore different areas of the resort and collect a fun prize when you solve all the clues. Most activities are completely free, but things like Mickey tie-dye T-shirts or smores kits for the campfire do carry a small fee.

Perks To Staying On Site At A Walt Disney World Resort

Disney Hotels are broken down into 3 categories: Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Deluxe Resorts. You can find out more about the levels here. All but one of the perks we have listed below are applicable no matter which level of resort you choose!

Before we jump into the perks of staying on site, we have to go over the bad news first.

Early Theme Park Entry

Previously extra magic hours, Disney will soon be introducing early theme park entry. This allows Disney resort guests to get into the theme parks 30 minutes early every day. In the past, extra magic hours generally let resort guests into one park an hour early each day or less often, stay 2 hours after closing.

I actually think this could be a fairly major disadvantage for off-site guests. In the past you could look at Disneys calendar and know that Magic Kingdom would be opening early for their guests on Monday so youd go to Epcot that day instead to avoid larger crowds. Now if youre off-site there will be people there before you every morning so for major attractions youre never going to be able to get a super short wait right at opening.

Are There Still Enough Perks To Stay Onsite

Top 10 Off

Growing up, I was lucky to visit Walt Disney World Resort with my family multiple times. My parents werent rich but worked hard and made sacrifices to be able to spend on the things they viewed as priorities. Luckily for me, family travel was included in that.

We all know Disney World is way more expensive now than it was in the 80s and 90s when I grew up, but as a family of six and usually traveling with some extended family staying offsite was just more economical. So when my husband and I took our daughter for our first family trip to Walt Disney World, it was the first time we had stayed onsite. Now with several more onsite trips with kids under our belts, and a more recent offsite stay, I can see both sides of the argument regarding which of the two is better.
