Best Moderate Disney World Resorts

Moderate resorts at Disney World represent something of a challenge when it comes to vacation planning. Accommodations at some of these properties are certainly better than the Value resorts , but they tend not to have immersive themes like those priced both above and below this tier.

But, as always, there are standouts in every category. Prices at Disney Moderate resorts often cost between $200 and $400 per night.

In addition, my go-to choice for a budget-friendly off-property hotel falls under the Marriot brand. Its the Springhill Suites at Flamingo Crossings that sits right outside Disneys gates. Well learn more about it below.

As you are probably aware, location is one of the most important factors when choosing a hotel. And when you get outside the Disney bubble, you can easily end up in an extremely touristy or transitional area. Often both.

Ill be the first to admit some of these areas I adore, like Four Corners. But there are a few areas that I wouldnt want to stay at for the entirety of my trip, and nor would you.

Between location and traffic patterns, you could be looking at a resort with a considerable daily commute back and forth to the theme parks.

    Disneys Caribbean Beach Resort

Caribbean Beach Resort is the oldest hotel in the Moderate collection . And while Caribbean Beach has received upgrades, its hotel rooms are spread far around the property in two-story buildings. A central dining area called Old Port Royale is more grab-and-go than gourmet.

The main pool area has a pirate theme that young ones may find entertaining, but its also a bit small for a resort that large.

If you still decide Caribbean Beach is the resort for you, avoid the pirate rooms unless youre OK with smaller-than-normal beds and really want the theme since it costs extra.

While recent renovations and the addition of the Skyliner have improved Caribbean Beach, its still not our favorite. The internal resort bus loop isnt great and theres not a lot of charm for the price.

Gran Destino Tower At Disneys Coronado Springs Resort

Lake Buena Vista Florida – Courtyard by Marriott Orlando – Near Walt Disney World Resort

Disneys Coronado Springs was the definition of Moderate: an older resort with two-story buildings spread over a large property. The rooms are small, though theyve recently been renovated. The main pool has an Aztec them and a little waterslide.

Coronado Springs is one of the few remaining Moderate resorts where the only complimentary transportation to the parks is the bus network and walking isnt an option, given its distance to the parks. Its a resort geared toward the convention crowd, with large restaurants focused on quick service. But, a funny thing changed recently that landed it on this best Disney resort hotels list.

Disney World built a new tower at Coronado Springs called the Gran Destino. This hotel within a hotel has a stunning lobby and an equally snazzy lobby bar. If youre looking for a completely different perspective, let an elevator whisk you up to the 16th floor, where the rooftop Dahlia Lounge awaits along with an award-winning wine list.

Gran Destino also has the distinction of being the only Moderate resort at Disney World with a club lounge option. That amenity is still closed for now, but when it opens, its a great way to make a moderate stay feel deluxe.

The Spanish themes of the resort are evident here, with sumptuous Serrano ham and Spanish cavas. But dont worry, youll find plenty of games and books to entertain the kids while you enjoy the lounge.

    • Magic Kingdom: 6.4 miles
    • Disneys Typhoon Lagoon Water Park: 2.0 miles
    • Disneys Blizzard Beach Water Park: 5.1 miles

The hotel is situated on a 200-acre site and features the largest lagoon pool in Orlando, multiple water slides, a kids splash pad, extensive poolside seating, private cabanas and a pool side restaurant. In addition to the pool area, the Orlando World Center has a 4,000 square foot fitness center, on-site full service spa and an 18-hole Championship golf course .

Hotel rates at the Orlando World Center Marriott typically range from less than $200 per night to more than $400 per night based on the room type and time of year. Resort fees are $30 per day and on-site self parking is $22 per night.

The Absolute Best Hotels Near Walt Disney World

Theres one Marriott where you can use your free night in this area, the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando Kissimmee/Celebration.

This is a newer 150 room hotel, completed in 2016, located on Hwy. 192, which is not the most scenic place to stay. Honestly, youd be staying right off of a major 6 lane highway with lots of restaurants, hotels, outlet malls and gas stations. However, its a good location from where you can get to any place on Disney property in about the same amount of time. The local areas scenery isnt too much to admire unless the sky coaster from Fun Spot down the road is what you like to look at. If all youre looking for is a new hotel in a good location, this just might fit the bill. There are many places to eat in the area and youre close enough to drive to visit some of like 4Rivers Smokehouse.

Parking is free at this hotel and theres no resort fee.

Your mileage will vary, but if youre on a serious budget for your Disney World vacation, they should be a consideration. Prices start a little over $100 per night and go up to nearly $300 per night on peak dates. But, for most of the year, rooms typically sell for under $200 per night.

    Contents Of This Post

With the bottom line and basics covered, lets explain where the rest of this post goes. As with all points / miles content, the natural way to build the post doesnt quite make sense from a reader perspective, so we go in the order that makes the most sense for you.

Were going to start with how to earn Marriott points. Well quickly say that you need about 50,000 points for a night at these hotels so you have enough context. After this, well talk in more detail about how much these stays cost per night, and what availability looks like when booking with points.

Then well cover whether this is a good use of Marriott points. Well finally close with the step-by-step process for booking the Swan & Dolphin with Marriott points. While thats sort of the core of this post, the if and why sections are obviously more important, so we start with them.

Best Disney Hotel If You Win The Lottery

Orlando World Center Hotel by Marriott | Near Walt Disney World (Hotel Tour and Review)

If you come across a stash of money that you are willing to spend on your Disney World accommodations, youll want to consider Copper Creek Cabins. These cabins are located at the Wilderness Lodge, but thinking of them as cabins is really selling them short. More accurately, these are akin to little high-end homes you can rent on Disney property.

Expect to spend a couple of grand per night on Copper Creek cabins, but in return you get two bedrooms, an epic living room with fireplace, full kitchen and an epic screened-in outdoor living area with a private hot tub and piped in fireworks music each evening.

Are Swan And Dolphin A Good Use Of Marriott Points

This will vary by stay. In the example we give below, we get 0.88 cents per point of value. As Million Mile Secrets shows, this isnt great value, especially compared to other Category 6 hotels using fifth night free.

That said, value of these points is subjective. You cant sell them for cash . So if you dont have another Marriott stay on the horizon, the Swan and Dolphin might still be your best use of these points.

Note this doesnt speak to transferring Amex or Chase points and using those. Generally, this will be a poor use of these points as they can be used in a variety of ways and usually have a floor value of at least 1 cent. We discuss this a bit more in What If I Used Chase Ultimate Rewards? below.
