Make A Disney World Dining Reservation

Think Outside The Box

How to Make Walt Disney World Dining Reservations

Sometimes you may have to compromise a bit to get what you want. This is especially true if your group is on the larger size .

These tips are especially helpful for dining with large groups. However, the same concepts can be applied to smaller groups, too:

  • Try for reservations during unpopular times of the day. Dinner and pre-park opening breakfasts are 2 of the most popular times of day to dine, which means theyll be the first slots to book up. Instead, try dining during less popular times of the day to maximize your chances of finding an opening.
  • If you cant get 1 reservation for your entire group, try splitting up into 2 smaller ones. When you check-in, youll be able to ask the hostess to seat you together (or at least near one another, although this isnt a guarantee. And, depending on your group size, even if you booked under 1 reservation, the table configurations at some restaurants simply dont allow for large groups to be seated all together, so there is always the chance your group might be split up.

How Many Dining Reservations Can I Make At Disney World

Theres not really a limit to how many reservations you can make. Theoretically, you could make a reservation for every single meal of your vacation.

However, Disneys system is smart enough that it wont let you make reservations that will overlap. For instance, if you have a 1 pm reservation for 50s Prime Time Cafe and you try to make a reservation for 1:30 at The Brown Derby, Disney will make you cancel your first reservation in order to make the second reservation. There is nothing stopping someone else in your party from grabbing that 1:30 Brown Derby ADR, but you might not want to because of the next question.

Restaurants That Require A Credit Card Guarantee Or Prepayment

How to Get Dining Reservations for Disney

The following locations require full prepayment in advance, using a credit card. Generally if you dont cancel them by two days before the event, you get no refund. Check their cancellation terms carefully, as they can change any time.

  • Cinderellas Royal Table
  • Spirit of Aloha Luau
  • Mickeys Backyard BBQ

All other table-service dining locations that take reservations require a credit card guarantee. Your credit card will be charged $10 per person if you dont either show up for the reservation or cancel by the previous day . The latest you can cancel and avoid the charge is 11:59 pm Eastern Time of the night before, though there is no one answering the phones after 11:00 pm, so to cancel after that point you would need to do it online.

At Victoria & Alberts, your credit card will be charged $100 per person if you dont show up for the reservation, or if you cancel within 72 hours of the reservation.

Note that if some of your party cant make the reservation, thats not a problem. As long as at least one person shows up to take the reservation, no one will be charged the fee.

Enter Any Special Dietary Needs

As you continue to move through the pages, you will see an option to record any food allergies and dietary restrictions you may have within your dining party. Disney is an absolutely amazing place to eat when you have food allergies!

Since I must eat gluten free, I always add that into all of my reservations. In the ideal world, this will notify the restaurant in advance that they will need to discuss this with me once we arrive and our reservation ticket should be stamped with an allergy notification.

Victoria & Albertsalong with Victoria & Alberts Chefs Table Dinner and Victoria & Alberts Dinner Queen Victoria Roomis the single toughest reservation to get at Walt Disney World. Cinderellas Royal Table is just about the same difficulty as Victoria & Alberts. It fills up at 180+ days out, and families are very hesitant to cancel, though probably not to the same degree as Victoria & Alberts.

Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White is a new and well-received character dinner at Wilderness Lodge. Whether its popularity will be long-lasting is yet to be determined, but for now this is a tough one to book.

Check 24 Hours Before Your Desired Dining Time

Disney World and Disneyland have a rule regarding canceling dining reservations. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your dining time, you will be charged $10 a person. This can also be said of no-shows at the restaurant itself. Disneys website reminds us,

Restaurants offering advance reservations charge a per-person cancellation fee for reservations cancelled after the designated cancellation period, or for no shows. Each restaurant at Walt Disney World® Resort maintains its own cancellation policy, so be sure to confirm the policy before finalizing your reservation. For additional assistance, please call 824-1391.

To avoid these fees, Disney Guests will hoard and book multiple reservations, not knowing which one they will use , and dump the extras at the 24-hour mark. This results in a good amount of previously-not available time slots opening up. Opening up MDX 24 hours before your preferred dining time is one of the best ways to grab that hard to get dining reservation.

While you can always walk up to the host stand to see if walk-up seating is available, those openings typically come from those dumped reservations.

Whats The Cancellation Policy For Advance Dinner Reservations At Disney World

Top Ten Hard to Make Dining Reservations

Each restaurant at Disney World has its own cancellation policy. Be sure to check the policy before paying for your dining reservation. The cancellation policy will be mentioned in your email confirmation as well. There may be a per-person cancellation charge if you cancel after the designated window or are a no-show. This is usually $10 per person if you cancel within 24 hours of your arrival time. You can cancel a dining reservation online by logging into your Disney account.

Walt Disney World Resort Guests

If on the other hand, you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you have a slight advantage over other guests when it comes to restaurant reservations. You get to take advantage of the 60+10 rule

This used to be the 180+10 rule and will most likely go back to that once the reopening period is over.

Instead of only being able to book Disney restaurants 60 days in advance, you can book them 60 days in advance of your arrival date PLUS you get an additional 10 days bonus from that date. This allows you to book advanced dining reservations for the entirety of your stay, as long as it doesnt go over 10 days.

For example, if today is June 3 then 60 days out is still August 2. But if you have a trip planned for 10 days or less, you can book the restaurants for your whole trip on June 3 and call it a day.

Instead, if you were not staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, you could book your ADR for August 2 on June 3, but then for the restaurant on August 3, youd have to wait to book that until the next day, June 4. And so-on and so-forth. That means waking up early for the next 10 days in a row just to book a reservation.

Do you see the advantage in staying on-property in this case?

  • TIP: Count back now 60 days from your Walt Disney World arrival date and mark it down on your calendar so you dont forget.

Check Around Major Dates

How Do I Make a Disney Dining Reservation? And MORE Helpful Tips!

Heres a tipcheck every day until your trip. Thats sort of helpful, but well try and narrow it down for you a bit. Check around the following dates:

  • 180 days in advance

  • 60 days in advance

  • 30 days in advance

  • Seven days or less in advance

Just writing this post, I found availability at Victoria and Alberts, Cinderellas Royal Table, California Grill, and Be Our Guest within the next seven days. The first two only had one reservation time each in the next seven days, and the others had multiple times. The only two servings I couldnt find availability for were breakfast and lunch at Cinderellas Royal Table.

Nowa single data point is worth just about nothing. But while availability for restaurants in general may get worse as you get closer to your trip, there are lots of reasons people will cancel their reservations as the date get nearer.

People are unlikely to modify reservations between 180 days out and 60 days out. Theyre unlikely to do anything but read and reread our Walt Disney World FastPass+ strategy during that time. Seriously, this just isnt a busy time for Disney vacation planning.

At 60 and 30 days out, guests will be booking FastPass+, which might result in cancellations. People who prioritize rides still have to book ADRs before FastPass+ , so ride enthusiasts who wind up with conflicts will cancel reservations 30 and 60 days out.
