Are Disneys Art Of Animation Little Mermaid Rooms Worth It

At my core, Im a very rational guy. Thats why I deal with numbers for a living. Because of that, I can unequivocally say there is no way that these rooms are worth the price you pay. You might be asking yourself why we stayed there then? Its a good question, and actually, that is the point.

Staying in Disneys Art of Animation Little Mermaid rooms is not a decision rooted in rational thought or logic. It is rooted in the eyes of a 7-year-old girl at least it was in our case. Maybe you grew up loving The Little Mermaid movie, and thats all that matters to you. Whatever it is, there is something in each person that stays here, which ultimately overrides any logic.

I can tell you that if you asked Anna, she would love to stay in these rooms every time we come to Disney World. She wants to know when we are coming back. Sadly, not anytime soon. But I think we will be back because there is no rational thought here.

We should mention that Disney just started refurbishing these in early 2020. So, well check back in after they finish up in late 2020. There are some videos out there of the new rooms, and I have to say they still arent as well done as what Ive seen in other refurbished value resorts, but that ultimately wont matter in most decisions to stay here.

Little Mermaid Rooms Location

Getting to your Little Mermaid rooms is a bit of a trek. They are located in the the farthest section from the Art of Animation lobby, food court, and Disney bus transportation. Most times youll be walking through the entire Lion King area to reach your destination.

We were mentally prepared for this as part of the price paid to stay in a Little Mermaid room. Being the only wing featuring affordable standard family rooms , it was worth it to us.

Theres an interactive playground of sorts in the Lion King area, which the kids loved climbing on as we journeyed through. So the extra walk never really felt like a burden.

Disney’s Art Of Animation Resort Overview

Disney’s Art of Animation is a highly-themed, value-level resort at Walt Disney World. Art of Animation includes both standard hotel rooms and “family suites,” which are indeed perfect for families. The suites are a reasonably priced option which include two rooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette. If you have a family of five or six, or if you just don’t want to sleep in the same room as your kids, the Art of Animation family suites are one of the best lodging options at Walt Disney World.

The Art of Animation rooms, exterior spaces, and pools are themed to one for four Disney-Pixar films: Finding Nemo, Little Mermaid, Lion King, or Cars. The Landscape of Flavors food court is the best on Disney property, featuring a variety of customizable fresh food options.

The majority of the resorts accommodations are 1,120 “family suites,” each of which accommodate up to six guests. Additionally there are 864 standard rooms, each accommodating four guests. The suite buildings have interior hallways to the guest rooms instead of the exterior walkways found at the standard rooms and at Disneys other value resorts and at Disney’s moderate resorts.

Is Art Of Animation Worth Your Money

Art of Animation is worth every penny if you are taking younger children. Its a great resort and offers many amenities for families. We rate it as the best value resort you can stay at on Disney World property.

However, if you are taking older children there may be better options you could look into, like Pop Century or All Star Sports Resorts.

Animation Hall And Art Of Animations Pools

Animation Hall is where youll find the bus stops, reception, the concierge, the Pixel Play Arcade, Ink & Paint Shop gift shop, the Landscape of Flavors food court.

Were fans of the cafeteria-style quick service options at the value resorts, and the Landscape of Flavors food court at Art of Animation is widely recognized as the best dining option at the value resorts. The full menu is available here.Food court meals are quick service meals under the Disney dining plans.

When staying at nearby Pop Century, well usually make the walk over to Art of Animation at least once to visit Landscape of Flavors.

Besides its good menu, the cafeteria space is one of the cooler food court spaces in Walt Disney World. As much as I enjoy my quick, easy meals at all the value resorts, the vibrancy of Landscape of Flavors makes it a fun place to be.

Its even worth just walking around a bit after a meal to check out some of the beautiful art around the place. Even the light fixtures have animation on them. Its nice to see some animation that isnt just pictures of Disney characters.

If youre looking for convenient table service meals , your best options are probably going to be meals off the Skyliner if you can visit them when the Skyliner is running. These include the restaurants at Riviera Resort and the hotels around the Boardwalk. Otherwise you might want to aim for restaurants inside the parks.

There is a kiddie splash area nearby .

History Of The Little Mermaid Rooms

One thing you will notice about Disneys Art of Animation Little Mermaid rooms is that they arent like the rest of the resort. Most of the resort features what are called family suites. They feature larger rooms with a separate main bedroom. The Little Mermaid room is your typical Disney World value resort standard room. Youll also notice that the exterior of the Little Mermaid resort looks different than the other sections. Why so?

The full story is in our resort review, but the short answer is a construction delay. The Little Mermaid section of the resort was under construction when 9/11 occurred. At that time, the resort was going to be a mirror image of Pop Century, which is just across Hourglass Lake. Given the drop in tourism after those events, Disney World ceased construction on the resort. When they started construction back up again, Disney rethemed the resort and changed its design. That is when Disney went to the family suite for the other three sections of the resort. Since the construction of this wing of the resort was complete, they left it as is.

Booking Disneys Art Of Animation Resort

Little Mermaid Room at Art of Animation | Disney World Resort

The first thing I want to note about booking Art of Animation is that its common for Disney to hide the lowest prices from you. If you search during a deal period, Disney usually shows the lowest deal price first.

If the deal is only applicable to the family suites, Disney will show that price first even though a lower priced Little Mermaid room is available. Heres a search result where Disney was showing me annual passholder discounts:

It looks like rooms will start at $324 pre-tax because only the suites are subject to this offer on these dates. But if I click through and get rid of the discount, I see that there are Little Mermaid rooms available for $191 pre-tax:

Of course, we like to have our go-to travel agent, Lauren Quirk of Travel With Character LLC, handle all this for us.

You might beat Disneys prices on third-party sites like Expedia or Booking. As always, if you book through a non-Disney site you should be sure to link your reservation to your My Disney Experience account both as a means of confirming it and to be sure you get all the perks associated with your stay.
