Not Everythings Open Quite Yet

Just because Disney World is open doesnt mean every restaurant is open. Some restaurants remain closed, and some have limited seating. If theres a restaurant you consider essential to your Disney vacation, make sure its open and that you can get reservations before you buy the tickets.

How Does Disney Ensure Guest Safety

Disney World goes to great lengths to ensure the safety of all guests, including solo travelers. There is a range of visible and invisible security measures in place at all the Disney theme parks and resort hotels.

Checkpoints at the entry gates ensure that guests are protected from trespassers. Bag checks are routine to ensure no prohibited items are brought onto the premises. Guest are also randomly selected for secondary screening with metal detectors.

Cast members are great at their jobs, making sure everyone follows the rules. Uniformed police officers and trained canines patrol the parks to ensure guest safety. Undercover security keeps an eye on things. It is believed there are even one-way mirrors in some places. All these security measures make it completely safe to go to Disney World alone.

Is Disney World Worth It In 2021

And here we have it, the million dollar question. Is Disney World worth it right now? Tons of people are wondering whether 2021 is a good year to visit Disney World, or if its a better idea to hold off until 2022.

Now that the vaccine has gone out to a large number of people, restrictions have dropped and going to Disney has become a more comfortable experience in some respects.

This will drive more and more people to the Disney parks in 2021 and into 2022. Especially when you consider that the 50th anniversary celebration kicks off on October 1.

However, I think theres HUGE potential for absolutely massive crowds in 2022. I think pretty much everyone has a massive case of cabin fever going on these days.

I think the circumstances behind your trip should play a significant factor into the decision making process as well. The answer might be different if you are a frequent Disney flyer as opposed to someone taking a once in a lifetime trip.

In terms of all the standard factors that go into choosing a date for your Disney trip, take a look at my post all about the best times to visit Disney.

How Is Disney Staying Safe From Coronavirus

Theres no simple answer to this complicated coronavirus question. One of the refrains youll hear from Floridians is Walt Disney World is far safer than our local grocery stores. This is not hyperbolicPublix can be like the wild west, and nowhere in Central Florida is as safe as its theme parks. Disney and Universal have set a high bar for their health protocol and theyve both absolutely been crushing it at reducing the risk of COVID-19.

However, the statement is also at least a tad disingenuous. You might be inside a grocery store for an hour , whereas vacationing at a theme park means consecutive multi-hour days. There are more opportunities for exposure, even if each individual one is lower risk due to rules and behavior. Moreover, getting groceries is essential, whereas visiting a theme park is not.

Walt Disney World has made a ton of changes to the parks to ensure guest and Cast Member safety. For one, there are sandwich boards everywhere with rules and the boilerplate COVID-19 Warning: We have taken enhanced health and safety measures. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.

As far as COVID-19 safety measures go, Walt Disney Worlds official Returning to a World of Magic page covers the three guiding principles of the modified operational guidelines and health safety measures: enhanced cleaning, reduced contact, and physical distancing.

Guests Who Go Every Few Years & Disney Frequent Fliers

Im now lumping these two categories together. I think that enough experiences have returned at this point that the answer is an easy yes.

Just be mentally prepared that you wont be able to experience everything like normal. But since you know youll be back again some day, its not as big of a deal.

The big caveat is this: if you are someone who wants to get the best bang for your buck, wait a little longer. Even with my complete and utter Disney obsession, I cant pretend youll get your moneys worth until more experiences return.

Did Disney World Fully Reopen

IS A SOLO WALT DISNEY WORLD TRIP FUN? IS IT SAFE? HOW TO PLAN ONE?

Beginning on Sunday March 15th, 2020 Disney World closed because of the covid-19 pandemic. Originally they were planning just to be closed through the month it ended up laughing all the way into July 2020. Reopening, Disney Springs welcome guests and then on July 11th Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom both reopened. On July 15th Disneys Hollywood Studios and EPCOT reopened as well.

While all the parks are open for visitors, as of January 2022 the experiences are limited when it comes to ones that involve close contact with characters. The shows that would normally get people congregating along Main Street or in front of the castle have been started again, while previously they were postponed until further notice. Additionally, indoor character dining experiences are not running currently. Vacation booking is also no longer limited.

We recommend booking through Get Away Today because they do so much work with Disney and have tons of experience, including during all the upheaval of the Coronavirus.

Disneys Magical Express Is Ending

This has been a BIG one. Disneys Magical Express will be discontinued in 2022 . Come January 1, 2022, the free transportation service that shuttled guests to and from the Orlando International Airport and their Disney World resort hotels will no longer existand a LOT of fans are not happy.

For many, Disneys Magical Express was their first taste of the magic it set the tone for the rest of the trip, was free and convenient, and was a time-honored tradition. But the fact still remains Disneys Magical Express will be ending very soon, so guests will have to select another way to get to and from the airport on future trips.

In January of 2022, Mears will begin offering a paid replacement for the Magical Express called Mears Connect. Thats one option for families to use. There are also rideshare options, private vehicles, rental cars, and, eventually, the airport train is set to feature a stop at Disney Springs .

Losing Magical Express will undoubtedly be tough for many guests, and its something thats causing many to be upset with the House of Mouse.

Is It Safe To Go To Walt Disney World In 2021

If you’re looking to experience the magic of Walt Disney World, first, you have to make sure there is availability inside your specified park. No longer are guests able to come and go after obtaining a ticket. Disney has a new reservation system, which limits the number of guests inside each park.

However, since the vaccine has continued to be widely dispersed across the United States, the CDC has announced that fully vaccinated individuals no longer have to wear masks outdoors and most places indoors. So, what does this mean for Disney’s popular theme parks?

A Disney spokesperson released the following statement: Todays guidance from the CDC allowing fully vaccinated individuals to remove masks and the removal of physical distancing requirements is extremely positive news and as soon as is practical we will implement updated guidelines across our businesses.”

Though they have not officially announced that guests no longer have to wear masks, Disney is seemingly hinting that their mask policy may change in the near future.

Currently, guests are required to wear a mask at all times, unless they are eating or drinking, or in the newly implemented “Relaxation Stations” in which your mask can be temporarily removed.

If you’re planning a vacation to Disney, keep in mind that character interactions, nighttime parades, some dining services, and activities have been canceled. The full list of canceled events can be found on the Disney website.

Is It Safe To Go To Disney World In 2021

Fortunately, the answer to this question is getting a little more straightforward. However, theres so much that goes into what makes YOU feel safe, that only you can fully answer that question for your family.

Is it safe to go to Disney World right now? Thats a question without a full answer. In fact, this answer is different for every person.

Throughout the reopening, Disney did a fantastic job of making sure guests felt as safe as humanly possible, while also enjoying their vacation.

I can tell you from my perspective, I felt safer at Disney World than I did going to the grocery store during the height of the surge . This is because Disney was strict about the safety precautions they had in place.

Safety precautions have loosened considerably at this point, and you may or may not feel comfortable with them. There are certainly people who still wear their masks as thats their comfort level.

Update: At this time, the Delta variant is surging in Orange County, Florida, where Disney World is located. So far, the only change Disney has made is to require face masks for everyone while indoors, on transportation, and on attractions.

Know Before You Go: Health Precautions At Disney World

Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration

Half the battle with staying healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic is following rules and guidelines for keeping healthy. Disney World during COVID-19 set the benchmark for how all other parks should operate. The processes and rules they initially had in place made us feel extremely comfortable and safe for the duration of our visit to Walt Disney World.

These are the original safety requirements when Disney World Reopened:

The current precautions are below. As of January 2022, park reservations are still required , masks are required indoors and on all enclosed resort transportation, and then mobile order and pay is strongly encouraged for quick service dining.

There are no more temperature checks, physical distancing requirements or masks required outdoors or when in a queue. Masks are also not required on all attractions anymore if the experience is outdoors, such as the Slinky Dog Coaster in Disneys Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney World Resort Safety Measures

Disney World theme parks, hotels, restaurants, attractions, services and other experiences may be modified, limited in capacity and subject to limited availability or even closure. Disney has implemented the following safety measures based on the guidance of government officials and health advisers:

  • Cleanliness and sanitization: Disney has increased cleaning and disinfection measures, and will continue to hold this standard. While regular cleaning has been reduced in frequency since first reopening in 2020, the hand sanitizers remain. Note that finger scanning at the touchpoints has returned.
  • Cast training: Disney provided new training and reinforcement to emphasize a strong culture of health and safety among its cast members.
  • Face coverings: The mask policy is ever-changing, based on current health guidelines. See our separate post for more details!
  • Contactless payment: Payment through MagicBands, Apple Pay and Google Pay is available at restaurants and retail shops. Mobile ordering at restaurants has been expanded and is highly encouraged or required.

Making Things More Exclusive

Some Disney fans have also felt like Disney is making things more exclusive or making things only available for those who can pay top dollar.

For example, Extra Magic Hours used to provide guests at ALL of Disney Worlds hotels extra time in the parks either in the morning or at night on select nights. Now, Early Theme Park Entry allows all hotel guests 30 minutes early entry into any Disney World theme park on any day. But if you want extra time in the parks at night , youll have to stay at a Deluxe Resort Hotel or Deluxe Villa .

This year, Disney World didnt offer its traditional holiday parties . Instead, it opted to host two new themed After Hours events , both of which had tickets that were FAR more expensive than the holiday parties.

Road Trip With Immediate Family

Experts say the safest type of trip keeps the family bubble intact and doesnt allow much opportunity for interaction with anyone else.

A road trip with a single family staying in a rented house, with very controlled exposures mostly within your own bubble, is going to be very safe, said Henry Wu, director of the Emory TravelWell Center and an associate professor of infectious diseases at Emory University School of Medicine.

Staying outdoors as much as possible will also keep the trip as safe as possible, doctors said.

For Bowers and her family, the alternative to a flight to Florida was a three-hour drive to Chicago, where local transmission was lower and the family was rigorous about wearing masks.

It ended up being a really good compromise, she said. I feel like we were able to get a little bit of a getaway enough to feel like they did something fun for the summer, but really minimize our risk.

Adding people outside your own household makes things a little more complicated.

Obviously the more different households are commingling, the more you go out, the higher the risk, Wu said. A lot of that risk will also depend on the local transmission rates.

Kimberlin said he would suggest gatherings take place outdoors, even if every member of the group is vaccinated. Families should also be aware of whether anyone has underlying conditions that could contribute to more severe disease if they were to get infected.
