Is Blizzard Beach In Orlando Open Year
I cannot see any scheduled closing for maintenance listed online, but it’s really not clear anywhere online if the park closes during the colder months of the year.
Can anyone offer any insights?
Disney keeps one water park open at all times. If one closes for refurbishment, the other stays open. But they will close if the temps get too low in the winter. Usually that only lasts for a few days though.

Every winter they close one water park for refurb then it re-opens and the other closes for refurb but one is always open, except like tenni says sometimes if the weather temps drop too low they close for that day.
So if you visit in the winter months you will find either blizzard beach or typhoon lagoon open but not both. I think it’s normally November time till about February.
No, it closes a couple of months each year for refurbishment. Typhoon Lagoon will be open when it is closed and vice versa. TL was first last year. It’s not always the same order. Typically starting the last few days of October, switching late December/early January, and complete early to mid March. Winter temperatures are quite variable in FL. If we get a cold front that will take overnight into the 30s or 40s you might expect the open park to be closed for the day due to weather. These are one off closures.
According to the hours calendar, T.L. will be the first to close again this autumn, which means B.B. will be closing in early January most likely.

Best Times To Go To Disney World In 2022 & 2023
Figuring out the best time to go to Disney World is often closely connected with the school calendar. It only makes sense that if kids are in school, the parks tend to be less crowded, if they are out of school the crowds will be heavier.
This is no different in 2022 or 2023 and the first step is to look at a calendar and determine when children are least likely to be in school.
As much though as people want to look to crowd calendars to figure out when to visit, they are often unpredictable and require a closer look at whats happening throughout the year. Now that Disney World is back open again, lets look at the recent past.
One important consideration is the construction and debuts of new attractions. Whenever new lands like Star Wars: Galaxys Edge or new attractions open, there is always an immediate influx of guests to the parks, no matter what season it is.
For example, when Rise of the Resistance opened it would have normally been the off-season at Disney World. Instead, it turned into a planning nightmare with people waiting in line at Hollywood Studios for hours before the park opened every day.
This repeated itself with the opening of Mickey and Minnies Runaway Railway in Hollywood Studios.
That is why you need to take a balanced approach when deciding the best time of the year to go to Disney and consider the weather, park hours, crowds, special events, and entertainment altogether.
The best times to visit Disney World in 2022 are:
- Weekdays in December 1-16

This month has great weather, great events and good crowds overall. Just avoid Thanksgiving week if crowds arent your thing, those are some of the worst days to go to Disney World. Guests can also still visit the popular EPCOT Food and Wine Festival.

Most Expensive Times To Visit Disney World
As weve mentioned, the weeks surrounding Christmas and New Years Day are some of the busiest and most expensive to visit Disney World. However, another notoriously busy time actually falls around Easter in the early spring the time period when many schools are on weeklong spring breaks.
Thanksgiving is also an understandably busy time in the parks, making it a good general rule of thumb to avoid the holidays at Disney World if youre looking to save a few bucks.
Additionally, the entirety of the summer at Disney World, starting in late May and extending until late August, can see big crowds and high prices. Children are out of school and adults often have more free time, making Disney World the perfect place to spend a day in the sun, especially around holidays like the 4th of July. While this three-month period may seem like a long stretch to avoid the parks, the intense heat and humidity that often comes with Florida summers should give you even more pause about booking a Disney summer stay.

FastPass+ All FastPasses have been canceled during this time. The entire FastPass+ system has been suspended. This is to allow more space in the attraction queues to be used for distancing between guests. Right now, guests will only use stand-by queues to enter the attractions.
Extra Magic Hours This is temporarily suspended, and Early Theme Park Entry is taking its place later in 2021. It lets Walt Dinsey World Resort hotel guests enter the parks 30 minutes before the general public.
Disney Dining Reservations Disney guests are now able to make dining reservations with some changes:

Disney Pool Rules And Safety
The pool rules can be found listed around every Disney World pool. Here are the rules for resort pools:
Other than these basic pool rules, Disney does a great job of making sure guests remain safe while swimming. Life guards are often present at the pools, but lifeguard availability vary by pool and time of year. So be sure to check with a Cast Member.
Also know that life jackets are available at no cost for children. You’ll find them at each pool in various sizes.
Each resort will also have either a zero depth area or a splash pad area so that smaller children, and kids who can’t swim can still enjoy the pool area safely.

Financial Factors Around Reopening
Of course, Disney wouldnt have opened the parks back up until its safe to do so, but with the financial strain being put on the company, you can be sure they have taken whatever measures possible to expedite that opening and making it safe for guests again.
Disney went through quite a rough patch in 2020 when the parks closed down, but they were able to navigate the storm and have stabilized financially, at least in the short-term.
In 2019 when things were normal, Disney had $6.1 Billion in revenue in the Parks, Experiences and Products division of the company in Q2 alone. Think about what losing almost all your sources of income in that division for possibly months will do to their bottom line. When all is said-and-done we are talking about losing billions of dollars. Billions, with a capital B.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek recently said on the Q1 Earnings Call that the closure of the parks cost them $2.6 billion in that quarter alone.
This is like what happens when a hurricane hits Disney World, only to every park, hotel and entertainment venue Disney owns all at the same time and for an extended period of time. Thats not to mention the revenue from the Box Office which has dried up and greatly reduced income coming from the Media division too.
Last year, Disney realized they would need some help in the short term and they announced another debt offering of $11 billion, bringing the total amount of new debt to $23 billion.

The Best Time For: Avoiding Crowds
Even on its least crowded day, Disney World is still filled with people. It’s just not possible to avoid crowds entirely, but value dates are usually on the quieter side. Check Disney’s calendar of special events before booking tickets. On the days leading up to a special event, like the annual January marathon, the parks may be more crowded than usual. For visitors who are only available during peak vacation times, try to at least avoid Disney World on weekends. That’s when Florida locals descend on the parks.

How To Get To The Disney Water Parks In The Winter
Because there are less people going to Disney water parks in the winter, there are also less Disney busses going there as well. This means you will need to plan out how you are going to get to the water park a bit more so than if you were going to the Magic Kingdom. There are a few ways to get to the water parks and each can be viable options. What you choose will depend on your budget, your available time, and access to a personal vehicle.
