How to Make Walt Disney World Park Reservations

What are your dining options at Disney theme parks and resorts?

Below, we will break down dining locations all over Disney World. Get ready because this list will have you ready to eat and also stuck with some tough choices. Please be advised that some of the below locations may be closed due to the pandemic, depending on when you are reading this. Be sure to check on the Walt Disney World website for hours of operation.

Hurricane Hannas GrilleYachtsman Steakhouse

The above lists are a compilation of both table service and quick service dining options and bars that Guests can purchase beverages at. As you can see, there is an extensive list of food options for Guests to enjoy.

What are your dining options, other than restaurants, at Disney theme parks and resorts?

If you are not looking to dine at a restaurant, you can always do a quick service meal and either eat it sitting down or on the go. Disney World is also full of snacks that Guests can purchase and eat on one hand while walking to their next attraction. Classic snacks like the Mickey Premium Bar, Mickey Pretzel, Dole Whip, Churros, Turkey Legs, Popcorn, and more are often available all around the Disney Parks in smaller kiosks or carts.

There are also specialty snacks such as the maple glazed bacon and cheeseburger spring rolls at Magic Kingdom or all of the festival food at EPCOT that can kick your hunger pang with something delicious.

Be Open To Different Times

How many of you would be willing to eat at Be Our Guest if the only reservation is for 9:30 pm on a Wednesday night? What if you had your baby and preschooler with you? I actually have this reservation set for my next visit and for us, it will work out great! Since we come from the West Coast, I keep my little ones on Pacific Time. Therefore a 9:30 pm isnt that late of a dinner for them and we scored a great ADR.

Certainly, some reservation times just arent ideal for many families. But if you can be open to dining at a different time youll more likely be able to find a reservation. Consider pushing back lunch so you can have a later dinner. Then stay to play in the parks and sleep in the next day. Or if you find an early dinner reservation, eat a big breakfast and skip lunch. Then have your early dinner and enjoy dessert later in the evening!

Do You Have To Make Reservations For Disney World Restaurants

Yes and no. If you want to eat in the full-service restaurants, youll almost always need Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations. A walk-up booking can be unlikely for the most popular locations. If you dont want to commit to reservations, then its totally okay to eat at only quick-service dining locations for your entire trip. I did this when I traveled to Disney World alone with my infant. And the meals I had were great!

So, yes if you want to eat in the full-service restaurants, youll need ADR. No, you dont have to make reservations if youre okay with eating all quick-service. And of course if you want to dine with the popular characters at Topolinos Terrace, youre going to need a reservation!

Disney World Dining Cancellation Policy

As with all things involving potential penalties, you should always confirm with the restaurant to make sure you have the latest information. There are restaurants with different policies, so its really important that you check with them.

Most reservations can be cancelled up until the end of the day before with no penalty. Disney states this in their :

Your credit card wont be charged before you dine with us unless you either dont show up for your reservation or cancel after 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the day before your arrival.

For most restaurants, the penalty for a late cancellation or no-show is $10 per person. Ive never heard of this being applied when only a few members of your party couldnt make it. Weve also had the penalty waived when we called early enough to cancel a dinner because of illness, and weve had one no-show fee never show up on a day during a wicked thunderstorm.

Note though, that some restaurants, like Victoria & Alberts, require even more advance notice to cancel. Victoria & Alberts requires 72 hours notice and has a $100 per person penalty for failure to cancel in time. Another example is Cinderellas Royal Table, which requires 48 hours notice or youll lose the full cost of the reservation .

Which Disney World Restaurants Take Reservations

Before we go on, lets clarify that this post doesnt talk about Disney World dining plans or how to use them. Well use some of the same terminology , but you dont really need to know about dining plans to know about reservations, or vice versa.

The Disney World website lists 439 restaurants . This includes various seasonal and non-seasonal dining experiences and packages, but its a good rough approximation of the number of restaurants offered. Of those, 159 Disney World restaurants take reservations. Roughly a third of those are special packages or unique offerings that we arent really covering in this post.

For the most part, this breaks down simply. Most of the restaurants that take reservations are the table service or buffet restaurants. If youve got a waiter, it probably takes reservations. Some of these restaurants are at Disney hotels, some are at Disney Springs, some are in the Disney parks.

If its a quick service restaurant where youll be walking up to a register and ordering, it usually wont take reservations. There are notable exceptions, like Be Our Guest, which offers quick service at breakfast and lunch while also taking reservations for those meals.

The bottom line for this section is simple: if you want to dine somewhere, you should always check if it takes reservations. Disney is expanding restaurants that take reservations regularly, with recent additions like Beaches and Cream and ABC Commissary surprising many.

Best Strategy For Getting The Chefs Table At Victoria & Alberts

How to Make a Disney World Theme Park Reservation

Another difficult-to-obtain Advance Reservation. For this one, youll want to call exactly 60 days before the date you want to sit at the Chefs Table and as early as possible. Walt Disney World Dining opens at 7AM , Monday through Friday and on weekends and holidays. Theres only one seating for the Chefs Table per evening, and it is typically not available on Wednesdays or Saturdays.

When you call 407-WDW-DINE , listen for the prompt that will direct you to the Victoria & Alberts line. There is also a separate number to call for V& As: its 407-939-7707. That gets you directly to the department that books for V& As Dining & Entertainment Services.

A credit card is needed at time of the booking as well as the names of all the people in the party. This is so they can personalize the menus for each person. A dress code applies at V& A gentlemen must be in jacket , and ladies should be in evening wear.

Search By Meals Not By Exact Times

When checking for availability, search by meals instead of exact times. Youll have a greater chance at finding a reservation if you use the broader meal times filter instead of exact times.

Inside the Check Availability box there is a drop-down menu that will say Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. If the restaurant isnt open for a particular meal, that meal wont show up in the menu. If there is an available time slot there will be a button with the time available that you can click to reserve your spot.

Why Did Disney Previously Cancel Disney Dining Reservations

So why did Disney make the decision to cancel Disney Dining Reservations? There were various factors that went into this decision and while on the surface it may seem strange, it makes sense given the circumstances.

The first and most obvious is that the restaurants in Disney World will have much lower capacity one they reopen. More space is needed inside the restaurants to allow for distancing between tables, and they will have 30-40% of the capacity they normally would have.

If you dont cancel all the reservations, how do you decide which reservations to keep for some guests and which ones to cancel for others. There is no easy way to decide that except hitting the restart button and letting everyone start over with the new restaurant capacities.

The second reason for cancelling the reservations is the location of the restaurants in Disney World. Some are located in the theme parks which will also have capacity limits and not all guests will be able to get in those parks on those days. Some restaurants are located in hotels which may not be open right away.

Disney really had no choice in the matter at this time and canceling all advanced dining reservations was the only move here.

There is only one Chefs Table seating each night and it is not available Wednesdays and Fridays. We recommend you book online or with the MyDisneyExperience app, but you can also call at 7:00 am ET, 60 days in advance.

Advance Dining Reservation Tips

We have assembled a list of tips that might help you in getting the reservation you want.

  • Be flexible in your dining time. The most popular times will certainly book first. For lunch, that will be between 12:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m. and for dinner, it will typically be between 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. The less popular dining times will be easier to secure.
  • Be aware of special events surrounding the restaurant of your choice. Getting a window seat at the California Grill during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show might take some advanced planning.

HOT TIP: Even if you dine at California Grill at 5:00 p.m., you can return to the restaurant later in the evening to watch fireworks from the observation decks by simply showing your receipt at the check-in desk.

  • Be practical in booking your family’s reservation. Generally, breakfast is less expensive than lunch and lunch is less expensive than dinner. Booking a late reservation at one of the breakfast buffets might serve as your midday meal allowing you to beat the lunch rush and pay the less expensive amount. The same is true for a late lunch. Booking the last lunch seating might allow you to dine at the restaurant of your choice and pay the lower lunch prices. The other benefit to this is that you might find shorter wait times at the popular attractions during the popular dining times.
  • We hope these tips and tricks help you get the Disney dining reservation you want.

You can always walk up to the restaurant to inquire about walk-in availability, too. Just dont get your hopes up.

    When Can I Make Reservations

Most dining reservations can be made 60 days in advance. Guests staying at Disney-owned Resorts may make reservations for their entire vacation at 60 days out from the first day of their vacations. This policy is not extended to guests of the Swan, Dolphin, Shades of Green, or any of the Disney Springs Resorts or hotels.

The online system opens at 6AM ET and 407-WDW-DINE begins at 7AM ET.

Some restaurants will book up quickly, so if you want to ensure you get the best meal times at the restaurants of your choice, plan to book 60 out.

    Other Reservation Changes For Reopening

How To Make A Disney World Park Reservation

Besides Disney World instituting a reservation system for the theme parks, there are also a bunch of other changes theyve recently made that are important to know about during the reopening phase.

    • Dining Reservations Disney had canceled all existing dining reservations from May 28, 2020, through the first few months of the reopening. Guests can now re-book reservations for their vacation, but they have to start all over with the slate wiped clean. Read more in our Disney Advanced Dining Reservations Guide.
    • FastPass+ Disney has currently suspended the FastPass+ program for the Disney World reopening. There is no telling how long it will be down, or if it will come back at all. Read our guide to all the FastPass+ changes for more info.
    • Disney Dining Plan All upcoming Disney Dining Plans have been canceled.

Again, these changes were all tough decisions for Disney to make, but they had to be done in order to accommodate the new distancing guidelines and lower park/restaurant capacity.

Disney released this new video explaining what the Disney World experience is like:

What Time Can I Make Dining Reservations

What time of the day can you start making advanced dining reservations? That depends if you are making them online or on the phone.

    • Online Reservations Advanced dining reservations open each morning at 6:00 am ET.
    • Phone Reservations Dining reservations are available on the phone each day starting at 7:00 am ET.

You may have noticed a time difference between making your advanced dining reservations online or on the phone. The online reservation system goes online one hour earlier than phone reservations and starts at 6:00 am.

That may not seem like a big difference, but that one hour can mean the difference between you getting those hard-to-get ADRs or not.
