How Late Is Disney World Open

Ride During The Parades

First Late Night | Magic Kingdom | Walt Disney World

If you want low wait times, you need to go on the rides when the people arent there right? One great opportunity is to hit some of the most popular ones when a parade is happening .

Now Im not saying to skip the parade and never see it, but if you are going to the Magic Kingdom for two days during your trip, there is no need to see the parade twice. The same goes for if you have been to Disney and seen the parade dozens of times already. Use that time wisely.

Extra Hours Access To Magic Kingdom

There are several options for getting early or late access to Magic Kingdom. Early Entry grants certain guests extra time in the morning. Extended Evening Hours grants a small set of guests extra hours in the evening. Finally, After Hours events are ticketed events with exclusive late-hour park access.

How Cold Is January In Orlando

Average temperatures can help you determine what the weather is like in January. This makes it helpful to plan month in advance. January is the coldest month of the year, but it has days that are still warm and comfortable. It is not a rainy season, so you should be able to enjoy it while avoiding issues with the weather.

What Kind Of Deals Are There Since Disney World Opened Back Up

With lower crowds also comes another benefit for guests going to Disney World: Lower Prices. There have been some offers so far and we expect to see more deals on vacation packages, hotel rooms, and even park tickets as the months continue.

Whenever the demand is low for vacations, Disney World has to offer deals to entice more guests to come and visit. Its why usually in a normal year you can get a lower price during September and January, when there are fewer people wanting to go to Disney World, instead of December when demand is through the roof.

Again, looking back at 9/11 and The Great Recession, gave us a good idea of what to expect once this current set of circumstances is also behind us. Both times the crowd level for the parks was extremely low and Disney was offering some amazing deals to get people to come back.

So far, the deals have been decent, but not on the same level as after those previous two events. After 9/11, people werent traveling because they were afraid of their safety. After the last financial crisis, people werent traveling because they didnt have any money.

The current set of events seemed to be a perfect storm of both scenarios but Americans have been able to save a ton of money during the last months and fear of travel is lessening by the day.

Its true that Disney is very much associated with being expensive, and this has deterred some people to instead opt for someplace closer and cheaper instead of Disney World.

Disney Wanted To Capture The East Coast Theme Park Audience

Disney World

When Disneyland opened in California in 1955, it quickly became a big success, but the company soon realized that only 2% of visitors came from east of the Mississippi River. Walt Disney went looking for an East Coast location and eventually settled on Florida.

Rick Foglesong, professor emeritus at Rollins University and author of the book, says the interstate highway system drew him to Orlando.

“Roads were all important to the Disney company because they wanted to build a park that would be 10 times the size of Disneyland in California,” Foglesong says. “That meant, that if they were going to build such a big park, they would have to import tourists from afar, from down the East Coast, from the Midwest.”

“At that time, Orlando was more of a cow town and literally when you’d come down Orange Blossom Trail, you could smell the orange blossoms,” Demetree says.

Her father and uncle were uncertain they would ever find a buyer for the property because of all the wetlands. But, as she heard the story, that’s one of the things that appealed to Walt Disney when he flew over the area in a private plane.

“He saw that wetland and said, ‘Right there is Tom Sawyer’s island,'” Demetree says. “And that was the wetlands that they had been complaining about.”

Questions About Disney Resort Accommodations Vacation Packages & Discounts

Jump to:

When will new Disney resort discounts become available?

We wish we knew! The resort and vacation package discounts are somewhat unpredictable. Only Disney knows when the next ones will come out. We have no crystal ball we cant predict what Disney may decide to do.

However, you can get a general idea of the historical trends. To assist you in planning future trips for which discounts have not yet been released, check out our chart of release dates for the deepest discounts .

In addition, here are some general observations about future discount availability:

When offered, room only discounts for the general public, Annual Passholders and Florida residents are usually relatively last-minute. Dont expect to get a big discount way in advance typically the discounts are released 2-4 months in advance. Sometimes the discounts are restricted to certain resorts or room types.

Vacation package discounts are sometimes released a little earlier, but seldom more than 6 months in advance.

Naturally, Disney only offers discounts on its resorts when it has a significant number of rooms to fill. Therefore the most popular dates and resorts are typically not discounted.

Some additional observations:

When will next years Disney resort room rates or vacation package prices be released?

Is it possible to use more than one discount for the same Disney resort reservation?

Why Crowds Calendars Arent Always 100% Correct

As great as a good Disney World Crowd Calendar can be, it is not the end-all-be-all to Disney vacation planning. Dont think you can just pick a time when the calendar tells you the parks should have fewer people and think thats all you need to do to have a successful Disney trip. Crowd calendars are just one part of the planning.

You cant count on them 100% as there are just too many variables that can change at a moments notice. In the past, everyone thought that the crowds for Star Wars: Galaxys Edge would be off the charts in Disneyland and Disney World and there would be lines outside the parks all day. It turns out that was completely wrong advice and the resorts on both coasts had one of the lightest Summer attendance ever.

The weather can turn a park from heavy crowds to empty in a matter of days. Whenever there are hurricanes in Disney World, the parks turn into a ghost town for days before and after the storm hits. You cant predict the weather and you have to go with the flow.

Then theres what happened in 2020 with parks closing and guests having to reschedule for a future date or completely cancel their vacations due to economic hardship. 2020 was on pace for one of the busiest years in Disney World in recent memory, and things changed overnight and it became the year with the lightest crowds ever once the parks reopened.

Renovation Expansion And Renaming

On March 14, 2013, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Tom Staggs announced that Downtown Disney would be redesigned and renamed as Disney Springs. The 3-year renovation and expansion project would include 150 new tenants, two parking structures, and a near-doubling of mall area. Prior to this announcement, the last renovation of Downtown Disney had been in 1997.

In order to facilitate the construction of the area and the increase in capacity, two large parking structures were constructed in previous surface parking lot areas. New construction features include new bridges connecting the complex to Disney’s Saratoga Springs resort, with further bridges connecting The Landing to the Marketplace, The Springs, Town Center and West Side. High Line structures were built across the West Side in order to provide both theme and shade. In addition, a new bus terminal, with dedicated bus lanes on Buena Vista Drive, was built Buena Vista Drive was widened, and a new exit ramp built from Interstate 4 directly to Disney Springs, as part of the traffic upgrade. The complex was renamed Disney Springs on September 29, 2015. Town Center, built just south of The Landing in the surface parking lots, was opened on May 15, 2016, completing the major construction on the project.

On May 7, 2020, it was announced that Disney Springs will begin a phased reopening on May 20.

How Our Disney World Crowd Calendar Works

How did we come up with our Disney World Crowd Calendar for 2022? It would be easy to just throw a dart at the calendar and assign a color, but that wouldnt be a very effective way of predicting peak crowds.

We selected which days and weeks are going to be the busiest based on a variety of data factors. Those factors include:

  • Season
  • Current Health Crisis
  • Bad Economy

Looking at all these different factors gives us a good idea of what kind of attendance you are likely to find on a given day. After decades of visiting the parks and observing attendance patterns, weve found this to be the best way to determine crowd levels as you cant just go on school holidays alone.

All that said, no Disney World Crowd Calendar is 100% right, especially in a year like 2022. Expect there to be some small differences between our predictions and the actual crowd sizes.

It is meant to be used as a helpful guide and not the definitive source of your vacation planning and we do our best to constantly update our projections to give you the most accurate predictions for your trip.

When Does Magic Kingdom Let People In

Long-time Disney visitors know that there is the official opening time for a park and then there is the time Disney typically starts letting guests inside, which can be up to 30 minutes before the official opening time.

Disney has put a formal stamp on this unofficial opening time by allowing onsite resort guests to always have access to the parks 30 minutes before non-Disney Resort guests. This access for on-site guests is called Early Theme Park Entry and we have more info on that below.

So, if you want to be there for Rope Drop at Magic Kingdom, we recommend arriving to the front of the park no later than 45 minutes before the official opening time.

Heres how to do that:

  • If you are taking the bus to Magic Kingdom youll need to be down to the bus stop 90 minutes before the official opening time. That should put you on the first or second bus of the day .
  • If you are driving to Magic Kingdom, youll have some extra steps involved because you will need to make time to park and then take the ferry or monorail over to Magic Kingdom. We recommend you be at the Transportation and Ticket Center parking booths about 60 minutes before Magic Kingdom is scheduled to open.
  • And, the same for the boats and monorail. Aim to get into line at your resort no later than 60 minutes before the park opens.
  • If you are walking , aim to be to the security checkpoint about 45 minutes before park opening.

When Is Disney World Least Crowded In 2022 & 2023

The smaller the crowds are, the less time you are going to have to wait in line for your favorite ride. So the objective is to find when there are the least amount of people in the parks as possible when you go.

These are the best dates, solely based on the crowd levels, not including other factors like weather. Just the days when you are less likely to run into droves of people.

Here are the dates youll find are going to be the least crowded in Disney World in the next 2 years.

Lightest Crowds in 2022:

A lot of this could change depending on when the Disney World park capacities return to normal, potential travel restrictions, and how many people can actually afford a Disney vacation at this time. Well be updating these dates on our Disney Crowd Calendar as more information comes out.

      Busiest Days in 2023:

What Is A Disney World Crowd Calendar

A crowd calendar helps us predict how busy a Disney park will be on any given day. This means if used properly, a crowd calendar can help you avoid Disney World when attendance is highest and when the lines for rides are the longest.

Our 2022 Disney World Crowd Calendar takes all 4 theme parks into consideration, the two water parks, and how busy Disney Springs and all the restaurants on property will be.

If you hate waiting in line as much as we do, Disney crowd calendars are a life-saver! If there was such a thing as a Disney-planning toolbox, this would be your hammer, an essential tool never to leave home without!

While not all guests have the flexibility to plan their entire trip around the least-crowded times of the year, using a Disney crowd tracker is still useful to pick days where there are only moderate crowds and at least avoid the absolutely busiest times of the year.
