Disney World Is As Big As

Disney World reopens as Florida Covid-19 cases surge

Like we said before, 25,000 acres, or 40 square miles sound like big numbers for sure, but without some more context, you might not truly understand how big Walt Disney World is.

To help you with this, weve compared the size of Disney World in Orlando to some more familiar standards of comparison.

The entire CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO!

At 40 squares miles, Disney World is equivalent to the size of this historic city, which in reality has nearly 900,000 residents, 54 bus lines, 17 trolly routes, and three cable car lines.

Manhattan IslandTIMES TWO!

Thats right, the greatest city in the worldthe city that never sleepsis only HALF the size of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.

19,360 football fields!

Which would take more than 38,000 perfect throws for even Eli Manning to cover!

Corpus Christi, Texas

Well, not land-wise, but people-wise on a daily basis Disney Worlds 4 main parks can hold up to 320,000 guests , which is about how many live in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Oh yeah but keep in mind that still doesnt account for employees, resort guests, water park attendees, and those in Disney Springs.

1 Billion People

If one billion people stood shoulder to shoulder in Walt Disney Worlds 40 square miles, there would be room for all of themAND THEN SOME!

Disney’s Blizzard Beach And Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks

Guests can plunge into a world of themed water fun. Challenge Summit Plummet. Snorkel with sharks in Shark Reef. Zoom down side-by-side racing slides. Or, float leisurely down a meandering river. For thrills or just chilling out, a day in a Walt Disney World Water Park is watery fun for one of the most popular theme parks in Florida.

How Big Is Hollywood Studios In Disney World

Only slightly bigger than Disneys Magic Kingdom is Hollywood Studios, divided into a massive total of 7 lands: Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake, Grand Avenue, Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, Toy Story Land, Animation Courtyard and, of course, Sunset Boulevard. All in all, Hollywood Studios offers 17 rides and attractions, so there is plenty to keep you entertained.

How big is Star Wars land?

On its own, Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, makes up a total of 14 acres. It is the largest single-themed land at Disney World, absolutely choc-a-bloc with attractions, restaurants, and boasting two extremely popular rides: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Disney World Is Larger Than Disneyland

In fact, if you placed Disneyland inside of Walt Disney World, all it would take up is one teeny, tiny, little corner.

Of course, that size difference makes sense when you consider what you find at each respective resort.

Disney World has four theme parks, two water parks, more than 25 onsite hotels, a large shopping district called Disney Springs, a couple of golf courses, and an area for sport competitions called Wide World of Sports.

Disneyland, on the other hand, only has two theme parks, the Downtown Disney District, and three onsite hotels.

To put it into perspective, Disneyland currently covers 510 acres and Disney World spreads across 27,000 acres or roughly 43 square miles !

Disneyland Vs Disney World: Hotels

There are three Disney-owned hotels at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim: The Disney Hotel, Disneys Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, and Disneys Paradise Pier Hotel. Additionally, since Disneyland is smaller and closer to non-Disney hotels, there are a number of less expensive places to stay around the theme park.

Over at Disney World, there are over 35 different hotels and resorts ranging from the wallet-friendly Disneys Art of Animation Resort to the sleek safari-like Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the deluxe Disneys Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. In addition, there are nearly 45 Good Neighbor hotels that are within 15 miles of the parks. These hotels arent official Disney hotels, but they have partnered with Disney World to provide a more budget-friendly experience than staying on Disney property. The benefit to staying on property at Disney World is free and convenient transportation along with Extra Magic Hours early entry and extended hours at specific parks daily.

How The Virtual Queue Works At Disneyland

Walt Disney World Resort Tomorrowland Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow Television Commercial

At Disneyland, you join virtual queues in the Disneyland app.

Heres a brief explanation of how the virtual queue works:

  • These virtual queues are similar to the ones at Disney World, but the drop times are at 7 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • If you start your day at Disneyland Park, you can access the virtual queue system in the morning on the day of your park reservation. If you dont snag a boarding group at 7 a.m., you can try again at noon.
  • To access the second virtual queue later in the day, you must have a valid ticket and park reservation, and have entered Disneyland Park, or California Adventure with a Park Hopper ticket, by noon.
  • Park hopping begins at 1 p.m. each day. If you start your day at California Adventure, you can then enter Disneyland Park with your Park Hopper ticket after 1 p.m. for your boarding group.

If you succeeded in joining the queue, youll receive a push notification via the Disneyland app when its time for you to board. You have up to one hour from the time of the alert to go to the entrance of the attraction.

Important: Each guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day. Guests may not hold a boarding group for more than one experience at the same time. If more than one experience is using a virtual queue, guests will need to enter those virtual queues one at a time.

What Things Are Unique To Disneyland & Disney World

Even though Disney theme parks are all about Disney, they are still special in their own way. The following are unique to both Disney World and Disneyland.

If you visit Disney World a lot, you should focus more on the lands and attractions that are different at Disneyland. The same goes for if youre an avid visitor of Disneyland, but rarely travel to Disney World.

Here are the main lands and parks that are unique at each location:

  • Disneyland Park: Mickeys Toontown, New Orleans Square
  • California Adventure: Cars Land, Pixar Pier, Avengers Campus
  • Disney World: Animal Kingdom as a whole, Epcot, specifically the World Showcase, both water parks

Disneyland Has 3 Official Disney Hotels On Property But Disney World Has Over 25

The onsite hotels at Disneyland are located within steps of both theme parks and Downtown Disney, but there are also several offsite options within walking distance. These latter hotels are known as Good Neighbor Hotels.

Staying offsite is much more common at Disneyland compared to Disney World, especially because you can save money and easily walk to the parks, since Disneyland is smaller.

Disney World offers a slew of hotels, including Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Deluxe Villa resorts.

And, many WDW hotels come with perks, like having access to the Skyliner and being able to book dining up to 60 days in advance for your entire length of stay. There are also several Disney World offsite hotels that many prefer to book.

Both Disney World and Disneyland have hotels that range in price, incorporate Disney Vacation Club, have great theming and details, offer exceptional dining, and more.

Disneyland Vs Disney World: Miscellaneous Factors

There are a few differences between Disneyland and Disney World that cant be easily categorized.

First, lets talk about the general vibe. Disney World is a vacation mecca. It is full of families looking for magical experiences, with guests staying for days at a time and looking to pack as much into their Disney trip as possible.

Disneyland, on the other hand, while also a big vacation destination, is more likely to have single day visitors and locals who just want to pop by for the afternoon.

I think all this, plus the location, contributes to another big factor: how much you stay inside the magic. At Disney World, you can completely immerse yourself in the Disney bubble and forget that the outside world exists. For me, this is a little harder to do at Disneyland, where you walk outside the gates and see non-Disneyland right next door.

Another big difference I noticed between the parks is their design. Disneyland opened in 1955 while Magic Kingdom in Disney World opened in 1971. And I think in those intervening years the park designers learned a lot about theme park design. To me, Disneyland felt really crowded all the time because there is just less space. The lines in Fantasyland are TINY. The walkways arent as well thought-out. And all this contributes to the park feeling cramped.

Where Are All The Disney Parks Located

Of course, Walt Disney started with Disneyland in Anaheim California, which opened on July 17, 1955.

But while that was the only park Walt got to see open to the public, theyve gone on to create 5 other main parks, most of which typically has 2 or more parks within them.

The main Disney parks are:

  • Walt Disney World Contains the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Disneys Animal Kingdom)
  • Disneyland Resort Contains Disneyland and California Adventure
  • Disneyland Paris Contains Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park
  • Tokyo Disney Contains Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea)
  • Hong Kong Disneyland
  • Shanghai Disney

If youre a Disney film lover, have you ever wondered why parents always seem to die in Disney films?

I recently published this article about that phenomenon and uncovered the devastating truth behind what drove Walts vision for his films.

Disneyland Vs Disney World: Best Time To Visit

Disneyland may have a bit of an edge in this category as it’s located in sunny Southern California, where the temperatures remain rather steady throughout the year. That said, it can still dip to around 50 degrees in the winters and reach well above 100 in the August and September summer heat.

Disney World, on the other hand, is a bit more hot and humid during the summer months, making it a less-than-ideal time to stand for hours on end in line for a favorite ride.

So, as far as the weather is concerned, both parks are best visited during the more temperate spring months. However, there are a few more things to think about when it comes to planning your park visit.

Both parks can become unbearably crowded during school spring break times . They can also become excessively crowded during holiday breaks and special celebrations .

If you can, go during either park’s off-peak times, avoiding popular holidays or the summer break period. That way, you’ll be able to experience more of the park in a shorter amount of time thanks to fewer crowds.

Disneyland refers to the original park in Anaheim, California.

Not counting California Adventure located next to Disneyland and collectively known as Disneyland Resort, Disneyland itself comes in at 85 acres.

The Magic Kingdom is a very similar park located as one of the 4 parks at Orlandos Walt Disney World.

The Magic Kingdom is 107 acres. So, The Magic Kingdom at WDW is a little larger than Disneyland.

Walt Disney World has Disney Springs while Universal has CityWalk. Each of these districts has amazing restaurants, shops, clubs, and movie theater complexes. CityWalk has a miniature golf course within its district, while Disneys mini-golf courses are located at the Swan and Dolphin Resort and Blizzard Beach Waterpark. However, Disney Springs does have bowling, tethered balloon rides, boat rentals, and a few other things to do.
