Lights-on peek at the Haunted Mansion during evacuation – Walt Disney World
  • Based on other threads and Disneyland’s focus on cutting down expenses, I do not think Haunted Mansion Holiday will return in 2021. If the overlay would be up, it would require HM to be closed from the last week of August through Labor Day and the beginning part of September. Usually Haunted Mansion Holiday opens when Disneyland’s Halloween.
  • It Was Intended to Be a Walk-Through Attraction. Walt had hoped his idea for a haunted mansion could debut with the opening of Disneyland in 1955, but with budget restraints, it got pushed back. When the time came to focus on the project again, it would no longer be a simple façade located on the end of Main Street, as Walt had originally.

  • Haunted Mansion Unexpectedly Closing For Several Days

If you wish to socialize with the ghosts of Haunted Mansion, your doom buggy may be delayed because the Haunted Mansion is unexpectedly closing for several days.

One of Magic Kingdoms most dark, yet beloved, attractions has been experiencing some unfortunate technical difficulties since yesterday, March 2.

According to My Disney Experience, Haunted Mansion is temporarily closed. It has not been open at all today. However, no official announcement has been made by Disney World on the spooky rides status.

Also, worth noting is the fact that Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is also temporarily closed. Could it have anything to do with the accident that occurred late last week?

Also, there is no official word on when Haunted Mansion may reopen, but it could be several days. Thats a really long time for a ride to be down for maintenance when its not scheduled for refurbishment. I hope they get it back up and running quickly!

However, the Resort itself doesnt officially sport its holiday decorations until November 1, once the Halloween season ends.

Disney Fans Celebrate Haunted Mansion on Its 51st Anniversary

On the morning of March 4, the Magic Kingdom opened with the Haunted Mansion still closed. But it wasnt the only ride reported down. Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad were also reported closed around 9 a.m. EST. Both Mountain rides are in the same vicinity as Haunted Mansion.

Soon after that, another favorite was reported temporarily closed: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Fantasyland. At the time this article was written, Splash Mountain is back up and running. Mine Train, Thunder Mountain, and Haunted Mansion still remain closed.

While yes, this is nothing new, it is surprising to see such a fan-favorite ride suffer such a sudden multi-day breakdown and it also surprising to see so many E-ticket rides closed so unexpectedly at the same time. This news also occurred so shortly after the sinking incident.

Since this articles original publication, the menu has been updated to show the correct item.

Like the picture, the push-pop is wrapped with the famous Haunted Mansion wallpaper. Its topped with a chocolate piece featuring the stretching portrait of men descending into quicksand.

The push-pop is designed to look like quicksand. It lacked the advertised dark chocolate pearls, and we struggled to find any cherry taste in the buttercream. As the menu has been updated, we now know this version features graham cracker crumbs and caramel buttercream instead. At the time, even Cast Members did not know the ingredients.

It is a cute, photogenic dessert. The caramel buttercream is overly sweet, though.

The cake itself was moist, fresh, and light. The white chocolate piece was surprisingly good as well.

The crumbs were slightly moist, so it wasnt like eating actual sand.

Haunted Mansion Closed Indefinitely At Magic Kingdom

The Haunted Mansion has had an uncharacteristically bad run at Magic Kingdom. From an extended downtime late last month to a rough day today that has seen the attraction closed since park opening.

According to Cast Members we spoke with, the attraction is very likely going to be closed for the rest of the day. As a matter of fact, Cast Members were uncertain if the attraction would be open in the next few days. The ride closed last night around 9:30pm and hasnt reopened.

Well continue to keep an eye on the situation as crews work to get the attraction operational.

Foolish mortals looking to visit the Haunted Mansion attraction this morning at Magic Kingdom must wait a little longer to visit the ghoulish delights of the establishment.

The happy haunts suffered a closure yesterday as well. Apparently, those hitchhiking ghosts must be causing a bit more trouble than usual.

The ride often experiences issues due to the rotating doom buggies and their track. The 999 supernatural beings that enhabit that mansion also sometimes cause technical difficulties that close the mansion to tours.

Due to the unscheduled nature of todays closure and yesterdays challenges, we hope the ghostly trouble here gets resolved quickly. Too bad Madame Leota cannot predict when the attraction may open today.

Unfortunately, this morning is rife with issues at Magic Kingom as two other incredibly popular attractions also either never opened or shut down within minutes of rope drop. The closures are sure to challenge guests to replan their days.

Splash Mountain began evacuating guests off its first flume rides of the day, and Pirates of the Caribbean never opened, according to the wait time list. Though Splash Mountain appears to be spur-of-the-moment issue, a permit was filed in June for the Pirates work.

Typically, it takes a couple of weeks for all of the holiday decorations to be removed from the Haunted Mansion, and given the refurbishment schedule for this attraction, the holiday version of the ride will last a couple weeks after the holiday season ends at the Disneyland Resort.

How Do You Know It Was A Surprise

We know this is an unexpected ride closure because while the MyDisneyExperience app keeps us updated on a rides status in realtime, the Walt Disney World website does not register a scheduled closure for Haunted Mansion. According to Disney Worlds website, the Haunted Mansion should be up and running right now in Liberty Square. We also had several Cast Members at Walt Disney World Guest Relations initially tell us that the ride was operational, before then sharing that the ride is, indeed, experiencing unplanned downtime. Disney was unable to share when the ride will be back up and running since this downtime was unexpected.

So, for realtime updates on rides and attractions at any Disney theme park, we recommend you check The Disneyland app or the My Disney Experience App for the most accurate information .

Behind The Scenes Look – New Haunted Mansion Updates | Disneyland Resort

The Caretaker is at the bottom of our list, but that doesnt mean we dont love him! This spooked groundskeeper is the only living friend weve got at the Haunted Mansion, and we love him for it.

In our ninth spot is Sally Slater A.K.A. the Tightrope Portrait. We love all the stretching portraits at the start of the Haunted Mansion, but this one is definitely our favorite! Theres just something about how shes just walking across the tightrope so casually despite the peril below.

This one isnt technically a Haunted Mansion character, but shes too good to not include! Madame Carlotta and her sister, Madame Renata, are the nieces of Master Gracey and come out at the Magic Kingdom during Halloween! Theyre iconic characters , so we included them on the list.

The eerie beckoning of Little Leota at the end of the Haunted Mansion is enough to earn her the seventh spot on this list. Tiny and adorable but with a creepy twist? Thats the essence of the Haunted Mansion. Hurry baaaaack! Hurry baaaaaaack!

Okay, hear us out on this one. The Caretakers Dog. It might seem like an unusual choice, but we feel so bad for that little guy! He deserves something for all his troubles, so he gets the sixth spot.

At number four on this list is Constance Hatchaway, who has a reputation for messy divorces. Notorious for killing all of her past husbands, this character has an interesting backstory and is one of the most legitimately scary characters in the Haunted Mansion.

The Haunted Mansion Closing For Extensive Refurbishment At Disneyland In January 2020

It has been announced that The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland Park will be closing for a months-long refurbishment in 2020 after the classic attraction wraps up its season of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay and a fabulous 50th Anniversary celebration.

According to the OC Register, The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland will undergo a two-month refurbishment in early 2020 as opposed to its usual two- to three- week refurbishment to switch over from Haunted Mansion Holiday. The overlay causes a lot of residual damage to the interior and exterior of the attraction, so after a few years, its necessary to close the attraction for a few months.

The refurb will begin starting January 21st and marks the third attraction at Disneyland to be going under for refurbishment in the coming year. Earlier this month, Snow Whites Scary Adventures was announced to be undergoing refurbishment in January as well.
