Getting From Mco To Disney World

Best Transportation From Mco To Disney World Hotel

How to get to Disney World from Orlando Airport when it reopens

We are staying at one of the in-park hotels. What is the most efficient method from MCO to Disney World with bags, 3 kids, etc.? We know there is a free Disney bus shuttle, which I’ve read can take up to 2-3 hours. There is also a new, private smaller Disney shuttle for $150 each way, but it is direct and private. I’m also just thinking about an Uber, Lyft or cab from the airport, which can’t cost more than $50 each way.

Does anyone have some firsthand insight?

Magic Express is fine, it’s never taken us that long. Possibly up to two hours depending how long you have to wait on the bus at the airport to fill up, but never 3 hours. The minnie vans are pretty pricey for a one way trip. If not using the magic express go with uber/lyft . You can go to their fare estimators on line and see how much it would be 🙂

Where did you read that the Disney Magical Express takes 2-3 hours? Typically, the buses are sitting there waiting for guests and you generally dont wait very long before the bus departs for your resort. You may need to stop at another resort to let other passengers off, but the process certainly shouldnt take 2-3 hours.

Uber and Lyft are also good options, if time is critical.

We just missed a bus so we had to wait 30 minutes or so for the next one to arrive and load, but it was still well worth it.

Cheapest, magical express – takes a bit of time to fill the bus but they run very frequently

Mid point – mears shared shuttle more cost could,be quicker

Have fun!

How Far Is Orlando Airport From Walt Disney World

Youll find Walt Disney World roughly 18-20 minutes, or about 20 miles, away from the Orlando Airport, and there is more than one route available. The most efficient routes require that you take a short drive on the highway, and you can also expect tolls.

Check out for step-by-step instructions on how to get from the Orlando Airport to Disney World and other details about the best route given relevant traffic, road closings, and other driving conditions.

Many car services, shuttles, or bus routes list a longer commute time for their services, and this happens when there are multiple stops or road closures due to construction. When planning out how long your trip from the airport to the resort will take, its best to leave plenty of extra time.

What Is The Difference Between The Standard And Express Service

The Standard service is a shared ride service on our Mears Connect that is economical as the fare includes all tolls and other surcharges. The Connection will make a limited number of stops and will have you on your way to your resort within 20 minutes of your check-in to the Mears Connect reception area.

The Express service is direct service to your resort and back to the airport , with limited to no wait time. The Express service may be provided in a bus, van or a small vehicle as well. This service includes all tolls and other surcharges. NOTE: Express service is not considered private service, it may be shared service.

Both standard and express services incorporate all current city, county, state, federal and CDC health and safety measures and both services will provide your party with continuously clean, sanitized vehicles.

Disney Replacing Magical Express Best Case Scenario

Since we cannot stop Disney from Replacing Disneys Magical Express Service our hope here is that Disney is able to come to a partnership agreement with Brightline. Perhaps a discounted rate, package deal, or special Resort Shuttle to transfer guests from the Train Station to respective Disney Resorts.

Thankfully other Disney Transportation Options are all still in play. Walt Disney World will still continue to offer complimentary in-park transportation monorails, Skyliner gondolas, buses, and ferries. Disney announced that Minnie Vans is temporarily paused, but may also be permanently retired.

Well continue to update this post as Disneys and Brightline Railway Company relationship develops so we can stay up to date on what the new Transportation service looks like.

Getting from Orlando Airport to Disney World

Walt Disney World has its Magical Express airport transportation for guests staying at Disney owned resorts.

But Shades of Green guests are on their own for transportation from Orlando International Airport to the Military Resort on Walt Disney World property.

UPDATE: Magical Express service will end for Disney World Resort reservations beginning on 1 January 2022.

If you have a reservation that begins on 31 December 2021 that carries over into 2022, you will still receive your return trip to the airport as part of your Resort Reservation.

For those starting their Disney World vacations 1 January 2022 or later the Paid Magical Express Replacement is Mears Connect. Mears Connect serves Shades of Green!

My family has lots of experience flying into Orlando International Airport. I was stationed in Ohio for many years and we flew into Orlando several times back then. We then transferred to the Florida Panhandle and drove to Disney World for 9 years. But weve been back in Ohio for quite a few years now, and we fly into Orlando several times a year.

When not staying at a Disney Resort, weve rented cars at the airport and used airport limos.

Renting A Car To Go To Disney

Renting a car to go to Disney is a good idea if you plan on visiting places outside of Disney, as the cost of using a Lyft or an Uber can quickly add up if youre visiting multiple places such as the outlets, beach, or the Kennedy Space Center. Not to mention, if youre parking at Disney, youll be paying at both your resort and each park you visit.

If youre picking a car up at MCO, head down to Level 1 where ground transportation is. Car rentals are available on this level on both the A and B sides of the terminal. This includes Alamo or National Car Rental, in which you have the option of dropping your rental off at the Car Care Center on Disney property when youre done using it.

Pros and Cons of Renting a Car

Honestly, the biggest con of renting a car is that youre always going to be paying more than what you initially signed up for. On my last visit, for example, we ended up paying nearly $400 extra when we got to our car rental facility because there were things they didnt include in their fine print.

While many websites say that you can rent a car for cheap, many of them will come with hidden fees such as airport fees and fuel charges. Though this will depend on the company you go through, you should always expect to pay more for your car than you think.

How To Get From Disney Springs Station To Your Disney Resort

The biggest question so far has been How do you get from Disneys Brightline Train Station to your Disney Resort? Thankfully, with this project still in the works, were hoping Disney can figure out a vacation-friendly option! While Disney Resort Buses do run from Disney Springs, theres a hard and fast rule that No Luggage is Allowed on Disney Buses! So, if youve brought luggage, which is likely, you may just have to rent a car to carry yourselves and the luggage to your Disney resort.

General Advice For Walt Disney World

How to get to Disney World from Orlando International Airport – Drive with us!

If the price of a rental car is expensive at the time you plan to travel, in some cases it will be cheaper to use a shuttle, towncar, van or limo to get to and from the airport, and then use taxis or Lyft to get around while youre at Walt Disney World. By using taxis instead of a rental car you dont have to worry about parking fees, valet tips, or accident insurance. Plus, you will be dropped off at the front gate , wont have to remember where you parked, and your family will not have to climb into a hot car!

Using a taxi or Lyft is especially terrific if you have little ones and decide to stay late in a theme park to enjoy the fireworks. Instead of rushing out with the crowds after the show and waiting for three Disney buses before its your turn, you call a cab and get those tuckered-out kids back to the hotel in a fraction of the time. Keep in mind that if your kids need a car seat, most ride services dont provide them because of the complexities of handling different-sized children. There are some exceptions you can read about in the on-demand ride service section below.

Even if youre staying on property, a taxi or Lyft can drastically reduce the hassle factor of going out to dinner at Disneys resorts , since there is no direct resort-to-resort transportation.

Orlando Airport To Disney World By Car

As with any other airport, you have the option to rent a car and drive to Walt Disney World. Renting a car is an excellent idea for those who plan to sightsee in other locations. Rental cars are also ideal for families who have children that require a car seat.

Not all car rentals come with car seats as an option, so its best to book in advance with a company that can guarantee the seats you need.

The official car rental service for Walt Disney World Resort is Alamo, and you can book their services when you make your Disney reservation or separately on their website. Some Disney hotels also charge extra for overnight parking for guests, so its a good idea to check and confirm you need the use of a car for your trip.

Through Alamo, a standard-sized vehicle large enough for a family of four will cost about $166 per day, and a booster seat or infant car seat costs an additional $7. So for your family of four, you can expect a rental car to cost about $1200 per week, not including gas and other add-ons or fees.

A Note on Parking Fees

There are overnight parking fees at Disney that amount to $15 each night for Value Resorts, $20 per night for parking at Moderate Resorts, and $25 a night at Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villa Resorts. Parking at campsites at Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort is complimentary, with one vehicle allowed at each site, but cabins charge $20 per night for parking.

Disney World Gets Rid Of Free Airport Transportation And Replaces It With These Paid Options

Companies like Mears Connect, Sunshine Flyer, and rideshares are available.

Disney World’s Magic Express transportation service has officially ended, leaving park goers to look for alternative solutions when it comes to getting to and from Orlando’s airport. And while there are some options available, all will come at an additional cost.

Disney has started to erect signs referencing new “Airport Shuttle Departures,”according to photos posted on Disney blog WDWNT. These replace the previously free Magic Express service, which offered transportation and luggage delivery from the Orlando International Airport to Disney Resort Hotels.

The blog said the new signs, which have so far been placed outside Disney’s Contemporary Resort, advertise Mears Connect, a paid service that costs $16 per adult for a one-way trip or $250 for round trip express service for up to four people.

Disney first announced its Magical Express service was ending last year. At the time, a park spokesperson said the service was no longer necessary as “consumer needs and preferences change,” and pointed to on-demand transportation options like rideshares.

For another transportation service, The Sunshine Flyer, launched in December, offers guests an immersive ride in a bus-type vehicle decked out to look and feel like a 1920’s old-fashioned train from the airport straight to Walt Disney World.

Mears Connect Express Service

Disney World rumoured to get new Virgin train service from ...
  • Guaranteed direct service to your hotel.

What I dont like:

  • Its ridiculously expensive and youre still sharing the van with strangers. You can often hire a private town car for less money.

  • Currently the cost is $250 round trip for up to 4 people. $55 for each additional passenger. This may change in the near future.

  • Must be booked round trip, no one-way bookings.

How To Get From Orlando Mco Airport To Disney World By Shared Shuttle Van

If you choose to take a shared shuttle van, Disney World has you covered with their official operator, Mears Shuttle. It is also the same company that provides the free shuttle, Magical Express from Orlando airport. If you will be staying at a Disney-owned and operated hotel, you can book Mears Shuttle directly when booking your hotel room. However, it is not mandatory to make a reservation . You can purchase your tickets when arriving at the airport, directly at the airport Mears desk. For your return flight, you simply need to let the Orlando airport Disney shuttle know when your flight leaves, and they will then assign you a pickup time.

Mears Connect Bus/Mears Airport Shuttle

Mears Connect is an airport bus service run by Mears, the company that used to provide Disneys Magical Express service. Mears Connect services all the official Disney hotels as well as non-Disney hotels.

You can make a reservation for Mears Connect online at or by calling , but its not really necessary except during super-peak season . Theres a Mears desk in the airport and you can walk up and arrange to go on the next shuttle. When going back to the airport, you will need to arrange a pickup time with Mears. You tell Mears when your flight leaves, and they assign you a pickup time. Theyre generally pretty good about arriving close to that time and getting you to the airport in time for your flight.

For transfers between Orlando International Airport and Disney World-area resorts, Mears Connect is offering introductory rates of $32 round trip per adult and $27 round trip per child , plus tip. One-way service is half those rates. There may be surcharges if your hotel is south of Walt Disney World . Kids 3 and under are free.

Unfortunately, Mears can be slow, since you will have to wait for the shuttle to pick up numerous passengers and take them to their individual hotels. Allow about 90 minutes from the time you get off the plane until you arrive at your hotel.

Taking A Taxi To Disney World

If youre not a fan of Lyft or Uber, you can always opt for a traditional taxi to take you to your resort. In most cases, a taxi ride will cost you between $55-$65 to transport you from MCO to the airport.

Pros and Cons of Taking a Taxi to Disney

On one hand, taxi drivers know the fastest routes in Orlando, so theyll be able to get you to your destination quickly. Furthermore, you usually get friendly service in a taxi. However, the drawbacks to using a taxi are many. First, youre limited in regards to options if youre with a large party. Whereas you can rent a large vehicle with a Lyft or Uber, you may have to opt for taking two taxis if youre traveling with a large group or pay extra for a van.

Second, taxis dont usually come equipped with a car seat, so youll have to lug one around with you if you choose to go with this option. This could be problematic if lets say you wanted to hang out at Disney Springs after flying into MCO.
