Do I Need A Wheelchair Or Ecv At Walt Disney World
This decision is entirely personal, but heres some info that could help you make your decision.

Also, they do not rent ECVs for nighttime events due to battery re-charging issues.
Im Using An Ecv For The First Time Any Advance Planning I Can Do To Make The Trip Easier Any Strange Pitfalls I Should Be Aware Of
Renting an ECV is possibly the easiest part of the process. Operating an ECV is often much trickier than guests expect. Here are some tips:
- Practice, practice practice. Check your area for places that have rental scooters . If a friend has one, borrow it and ask for their tips. Practice backing up, turning sharp corners, and parallel parking. Especially helpful is learning how to deal with swinging doors , an elevator , and a table .
- Learn how to back it up. Learn how to back the ECV up. It is an invaluable skill for getting onto a ramp, onto and off of a bus, or into a parking space.
- Take the key out of the ignition every time you stop. This will do two very important things. First, it will save your battery charge. And second, it will keep you from going flying if somebody accidentally touches the gas. Scooter controls are on the handlebars and therefore relatively easy for others to hit on accident. You may find yourself zooming forward if someone touches the control accidentally.

How Do I Choose An Outside Vendor
Most of the outside vendors offer the similar products and have competitive base prices. The differences are in the details.
- ScooterBug is the only Disney Preferred rental company. If you need the option of picking up and dropping off your rental at bell services on your time schedule then this is your only option.
- If your arrival time and departure times are flexible, Kingdom Strollers has a transportable scooter that has a weight limit of 275 lbs. They need to meet you at your resort to drop it off and pick it up at a pre-scheduled time. The rental price includes a free cup holder, saddle bag, cooler bag, and rain cover.
- If your assistance needs are more complex than the standard scooters or wheelchairs, Orlando Medical Rentals has a more complete inventory. Some of their services allow them to drop off and pick up at bell services. If they arent able to do that they will meet you according to your travel time. Call them for customizable service.
Tip: If you didnt rent a scooter with rain covers, pack some plastic for rain protection. If you can count on anything in Florida, its a summer storm.

Using Disney Transportation With Wheelchairs And Scooters
The Walt Disney World Resort buses do accommodate wheelchairs and ECVs. It is better if you note that in your reservation so they can plan ahead. The transportation boats also can accommodate ECVs and wheelchairs. If you luck out, there may only be one or two other ECVs ahead of you to load.
While Disney transportation can facilitate both wheelchairs and scooters, you may find yourself in a long queue to board during peak times. Also, staying late at the parks could mean you have more scooters and wheelchairs that need to be loaded.
Be sure your ECV is turned to a slow speed when you are loading and unloading. Try not to be nervous about driving it on or off. You can look for the safety neutral level that is found under the seat. This will enable you to disable the drive wheels. Someone can then push the scooter manually on or off the Disney World transportation vehicle.
Learning how to back up is also advisable if you are new to riding on a scooter. There are some transportation options that are narrow, like the monorail. Cast members can place a ramp for guests to board and disembark, but backing off the ramp requires technique. You want to practice backing up in a slow, straight line before you tackle the monitor in an EVC.

Why Use An Outside Scooter Company
Walt Disney World has a great reputation for accommodating guests with disabilities and limitations. However, their options dont always come at the best price, or allow the most flexibility. Outside vendors can provide the same or better service at a lower price.
Flexibility: Scooter rentals in Disney are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not allowed, and selection is limited. Disney World scooter rentals may not be removed from the destination where they were rented. While daily rentals are transferrable to each park and Disney Springs, you must return the scooter when you leave each location and then wait in line again at your next destination.
When you rent from an outside vendor, the scooter is yours to use 24/7 from the time of delivery to the time of pickup!
Quality and Service: Scootarama scooters are made in America by Pride Mobility. Our batteries last longer than factory-installed batteries because we remove all manufacturer batteries and replace them with batteries manufactured by industry leader MK Battery. If you encounter any mechanical issues with your equipment, Scootarama will come to the rescue! All of our drivers are Annual Passholders, so they can come into the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios to replace or repair your scooter.
Another perk is that Scootarama is owned by a disabled veteran. They offer a year-round 20% discount with proof of service .
Using Wheelchairs And Scooters In Disney Parks
If you are concerned about using a wheelchair or scooter at Disney to get around, the parks are well-equipped to handle both. Most attractions are set up to be as accessible as possible. However, you may find a few attractions here and there that are not easily accessible if you are in a wheelchair or ECV.
Disney World has attractions categorized so those with mobility disabilities can better understand which attractions to avoid. The main categories are:
- Must transfer from wheelchair/ECV to ride vehicle
- Must transfer from ECV to a wheelchair
- Must transfer from ECV to a wheelchair, and from wheelchair to ride vehicle
Disney designed a few attractions that allow you to stay in your wheelchair or ECV. Many of these attractions include theater-style shows. For a full rundown of all of the attraction categories and mobility options, visit Disney Worlds page on Mobility Disabilities.
The other thing to keep in mind with a Disney scooter rental is that you want to keep it on slow at all times. For those not used to riding one, it can feel overwhelming to suddenly be navigating crowds.

How Fast Do They Travel
Our thumb drive models have a top-speed control knob and the Dream has a turtle and rabbit top-speed switch. In rabbit mode your scooter can reach a max speed of about 4.4 mph . Always ensure you are in turtle mode while moving on or off transportation, navigating through crowds and/or near any uneven surfaces or curbs for safety. As the rider you directly control your scooters top speed by the lever, similar to how hard you press on the gas pedal of a car.
Which Model Is Best If I Am Staying On
For guests staying at Walt Disney World you may select the Snap, Dart, Wish, Destination or Fantasy no matter which resort you are staying at. If you are considering The Dream we recommend it for only those staying at hotels that have direct access to Boats and Monorails and/or direct access to the facilities you will be visiting. While it does fit on the buses, you do need to turn the front wheel to fit within the ADA prescribed public transportation dimensions. Because of the Dreams unique look, many bus drivers assume it is not compliant with ADA public transportation rules and may attempt to limit access. So as to avoid any un-pleasantries, we suggest for a large battery life, luxury model you select the Wish or Fantasy.

+ Years Of Satisfaction
Once again, Walker Mobility provided great service. This trip we rented a house instead of staying at a hotel, so I was a little concerned about the delivery and pick up, but when we arrived at our rented house the scooter was waiting for us. I got the extended range scooter, and really put it to the test. We went to three parks in one day, in the pouring rain, and the scooter didn’t let us down. Walker Mobility is simply the best.
Always a pleasure renting from Walker. Fast service, dependable equipment, priced below others…simply the best. Even had others around me that asked where I rented from due to the lack of reliability on the company they rented from.
This is the best company to rent a ECV from. They were kind and courteous. When I called and told them it had not charged overnight she asked if it was still plugged up. I said yes. She said unplug it and it should work. It did. I felt so silly but she was so nice. They even picked up at a park instead of the hotel. They are awesome. I will definitely use them again.
