Do You Pay For Parking At Disney World

Are You Coming In From Out Of Town

Trip Tips: Parking at Disney World | Driving to Disney World Resort

A great option to avoid the cost for parking at Disney World is to park in the garages at Disney Springs and then take a bus over to any of the theme parks. Learn where to park at Disney Springs in my other article about Disney Springs parking.

The good news is that you can park there all day and dont have to worry about your car being towed. However, the downside to doing this is that its time consuming. It also can become tiring from all the walking and waiting around for the busses.

Insider Tip

Make sure to remember where you parked your vehicle, because there are several different garages that have been built. I usually send myself a text message or take a quick picture with my cellphone of the parking space, including the name of the garage.

Paying To Park Reduces Travel Time

First, by paying to park at each of the theme parks, we were able to cut down our total travel time drastically.

If we went to each of the theme parks via Disney Springs we could have easily added 2 hours or more of travel time each day.

It could have been much less, but I figure an hour each way would have been a minimum travel time, especially if you have to switch buses.

We would have been totally reliant on the bus system. It only offers buses at 20-minute intervals. If we missed a bus, we could have to wait a while before the next bus showed up.

Walt Disney World Parking Tips & Tricks

If youre parking at Disney, this means you will be driving to the parks. Keep in mind, each of the following exits from Interstate 4 will take you to different parts of Walt Disney World Resort:

Disneys Magical Express

Complimentary airport transportation via Disneys Magical Express service is available for guests arriving at and departing from Orlando International Airport. Keep in mind, Disneys Magical Express service will no longer provide luggage delivery for those arriving at and departing from the airport. Your luggage will travel with you to your Disney hotel.

If Youre Staying At A Disney World Hotel

If youre staying at a Disney World Resort this vacationFirst of all, thats awesome! Have an amazing time. The resorts are super fun and keep you immersed in that Disney setting weve come to love oh-so-much.

Disneys Art of Animation Resort

However, just because youre staying on property doesnt mean youve escaped the parking fees. If youre staying at a value resort, youre going to have to pay $15 per night to park your car at the resort. The same goes for the moderate and deluxe resorts. If youre staying at a moderate resort expect to pay $20 per night, and if youre staying at a deluxe resort, prepare to pay $25 per night.

If you bring a car to Disney World, dont forget about those overnight parking fees!

The only exception to this rule is if youre staying at theFort Wilderness Campsite parking is free! But thats good for only one vehicle and takes up only one parking space. Any more than that and you may have to turn out your pockets, if you know what we mean.

But for the other ResortsYIKES, right? Those parking fees add up QUICKLY. Fortunately, you dont have to pay to park at the Disney Parks on top of that. Resort guests only have to pay to park in the Magic Kingdom, Disneys Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disneys Hollywood Studios parking lots if they want to upgrade to Preferred Parking, which is $20-$25 per day for the upgrade.

Disney World rolled out a preferred parking program back in 2016, allowing theme park visitors to get a closer parking spot at entrances to all four of their theme parks. Other theme parks in Orlando have charged for preferred parking for years. Regular car parking at Universal Studios garage is $20, with a preferred Prime Parking upgrade cost of $30. Universal offers valet parking ranging from $20 to $50 depending on how long you park your car. SeaWorld parking is $18, with a preferred parking upgrade cost of $23.

How much does Disney charge for parking and do you need to splurge on the up-charge for closer parking or take your chances just parking in the back?

Are Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Available At Disney Resorts

At present, Walt Disney World promotes ChargePoint stations at just two Resorts.

  • Disneys Coronado Springs Resort has six spaces near Gran Destino Towers bus stop.
  • Disneys Wilderness Lodge has two stations near the handicap parking spaces and lobby.

Additionally, some Resorts have wall outlets available for charging. Youll likely need to supply your own cable as these are standard wall outlets not designated ChargePoint stations.

  • Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Timon level of the parking garage
  • Fort Wilderness Cabins
  • Old Key West, villa buildings
  • Dolphin Resort, near valet

To use ChargePoint stations, guests need a credit card or a pre-ordered ChargePointcard. The cost is $0.35 per kilowatt hour with a minimum charge of $1.50. ChargePoint stations stop charging when the battery is fully charged, and drivers receive a ping when their car is ready.

What Time Should You Arrive

If your goal is to be there for park opening, for the smoothest morning we recommend you try to be one of the first people into the parking lot.

Right now, the parking plazas have been opening at roughly the schedule below:

  • Magic Kingdom 1 hour before park opening
  • Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom about 45 to 60 minutes before the park opens

Try to time your arrival to the parking lots to match those times. If you are a little bit early, theyll likely hold you for a bit before they start letting people into the parking lots.

Once you have paid, parking at all 4 parks is self-explanatory, and there are tons of Cast Members working in the parking lots to help you find your way.

All parking lots are well labeled with cute, themed names to help you remember where you parked.

For guest safety and to promote physical distancing, Disney is currently parking guests in every-other-spot. This makes it so much easier to get out of your car and unload your stuff, all while staying at least 6 feet away from the car next to you.

Then, later after guests have cleared out the Cast Members will go back and fill in the empty spots.

We really love this new method for parking and we hope it is something that Disney continues after things return to normal.

Try this:

Take a picture of your parking space and the nearest lot sign each time you park! This makes finding your car at the end of a long day much easier.

Do Disney Springs Resorts Get Free Parking

Do Disney Vacation Club Members & Renters Pay for Parking at WDW? Featuring Pixie Dust PhD

There are free parking options at Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, and Disney Springs. If youre looking for a cheaper ride than parking at the theme parks , you can use an Uber or Lyft from these destinations. The resorts also offer free parking with valid dining reservations if you have a valid dining reservation.

How To Avoid Parking Fees At Disney World

Depending on your destination at Disney World, youll encounter different types of parking fees. Resorts, theme parks, water parks, and shopping districts all have different parking amenities, so well break them down for you and tell you how to best avoid those parking fees at Disney by knowing which methods are either free or the cheapest option for you.

How To Avoid Parking Fees At Disney World Resorts

As discussed, Disney World resorts also charge parking fees, but if you pay to park at a Disney resort, you do not need to then pay again at the theme park.

This charge is per car, not per person or per family, so if you are a family of 4 in one room but you all come in separate cars, thats 4 parking fees.

The fees operate on a sliding scale depending on what category of resort youre staying at.

For a value resort, parking is $15 per night, for a moderate resort its $20 per night and for a Deluxe resort its $25 per night.

Avoiding Disney World resort parking fees is even harder than avoiding theme park parking fees, but there are a few options if youre just desparate to not pay these fees.

Stop To Shop/dine At A Hotel And Then Make A Quick Visit

Okay so TECHNICALLY you are not supposed to avoid parking fees at the theme parks by parking at a resort.

And that is very much the case if youre hoping to park at a resort and spend the whole day at the parks.

But lets say you just want to pop into Magic Kingdom for fireworks after dinner or to Epcot to do one ride on Spaceship Earth.

You typically get about three hours of free parking at a resort if you have dining reservations or if youre eating at a quick service on property .

So if you just want a quick stop off at a theme park and youre close enough to either take the monorail, boat, or walk to the park from the resort, I think you could fit in a visit before or after your dining reservation without paying for parking at Disney World.

This only works if you want a short visit and if you have reservations or another reason to be at a resort, but I know that the urge to catch the nighttime entertainment is strong among Disney fans.

Disability Parking Permits/license Plates Are Valid At Walt Disney World

Disability parking permits from any US state are valid at Walt Disney World. Also accepted are those from the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and any EU country. You must have a valid disability parking permit to park in disabled spaces at Disney World. This permit can be a hanging disability placard, license plate, or any identification denoting your disabled parking authorization.

If you do not have a valid disabled parking permit, you can request to park at the end of a lot. Disney parking lot personnel will attempt to accommodate your request. Ive heard these areas referred to as the Medical Parking section and are nearer to the entrances.

Are You A Local Resident

There are many great benefits to living in the Central Florida area that I found to be helpful when it comes to avoiding the cost for parking at Disney World. One of these benefits are knowing people who work for Disney.

Disney Cast Members can get their friends or relatives into the parks using their Main Gate Pass. Not only can they get them into the parks, but they can also help them park for free. This technique has been very helpful for us. All you need to do is decide on a time and place to meet. Then, if riding separately, you can follow right behind the cast members vehicle into the parking area.

When you arrive at the gate, the cast member in the first vehicle needs to show his or her Disney ID and inform the employee who is working, of the other vehicle right behind them. After seeing their Disney ID, they will just simply wave both vehicles right on through.

Insider Tip

Keep in mind, when using the Cast Members ID to gain access to free parking at one location, you can only park again for free at another location if the cast member is still with you. If you choose to park hop without the cast member, you may be asked to pay at the next park.

The best thing to do is to keep your vehicle parked at one location and take advantage of the other ways of transportation, like the Monorail System or the Disney buses.
