Blizzard Beach Vs Typhoon Lagoon: The Ultimate Guide To Disneys Water Parks In Orlando
Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have a lot in common, but they’re far from identical. Here’s how to choose between the Disney water parks.
With so many roller coasters to ride, characters to hug, and Dole Whip to eat at the best Orlando theme parks, its no wonder that the water parks in Orlando often play second fiddle to their flashier counterparts. But youre missing out if you dont make time to visit oneor both!of the Disney water parks on your next Florida family vacation.
At Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, the two Walt Disney World water parks in Orlando, you can cool off after a hot morning at the theme parks, enjoy a rest day between theme park visits, or even stop by in the morning before some nighttime fun at the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Typhoon Lagoon Theming And Layout
The theme of Typhoon Lagoon is that the island was a tropical paradise that eventually developed into a small resort destinationPlacid Palms Resort. One fateful day, a typhoon threw all manner of ships, surf boards, submarines, and everything else across the island. This redecorating transformed the resort island into Typhoon Lagoon.
The centerpiece of the park is the Miss Tilly ship, which sits atop Mount Mayday. Every 30 minutes, the mountain shoots a geyser straight through the ship .
While not quite as good as the theme parks, the theming is still worth taking in. A full lap around the park is about 1/2 a mile, or a 10-minute walk. Take thirty minutes to really soak in the detail.
Typhoon Lagoon has a simple circular layout. The center is the Surf Pool with its beaches, and around that is the lazy river, Castaway Creek.
Around most of the park, you can walk along an inner or outer path on either side of Castaway Creek, with six bridges connecting the paths. Around the outside of Castaway Creek are all the attractions and restaurants.
When you enter the water park, you have a short path before you reach Singapore Salsthe main store. Thats also where youll find lockers, changing rooms, and the ATM. From there, you can go left or right . We cover suggested itineraries later in this post.
Walt Disney World Deluxe Hotel Reviews
BoardWalk Inn Resort Review This is far and away our favorite Walt Disney World Hotel for several reasons. Its why we bought into Disney Vacation Club to begin with. This hotel has so much to offer guests! Our biggest reason for loving this hotel is location. We are true fans of walking to theme parks anything to avoid the buses. From BoardWalk you can enjoy a leisure stroll to Epcot and be there in 5 minutes. If you want to walk to Hollywood Studios you can in about 10 minutes. If youre not big on walking, you can take ferry boats! If you are going to take the buses anywhere BoardWalk does have a single stop for the entire resort which is great because its not that spread out. So busing really isnt that bad . You have complete access to the Boardwalk Entertainment District right outside your room which we love! Tons of shopping, eating and nightly entertainment . Its a great place to stay for families and couples!

What To Pack For The Waterpark
Some days we do water park packing lite if were staying onsite, with a Dining plan and just doing a morning Disney water park visit, well happily rock up with sunscreen, magic bands, water shoes, a few drinks and our swimwear. We grab some towels, hit the slides and the pools we hardly spend any time chilling or sitting down and, when were done we grab quick service lunch on our way out.
That said, the water parks have so much more to offer and can be a great destination for the whole day, but whether youre visiting Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, youll want to be better prepared so youre not left wanting OR spending your hard earned money on things you could easily have brought with you! Whatever youre doing, youll need to remember to reapply sunscreen often!
Dont forget, kids are going to be spending a lot of time out of water and will need careful protection from the sun to shield them from rays reflecting off the water: we love swim suit sets like this for toddlers to double up on the sun protection!
Kids who wear diapers must wear swim diapers.
Disneys website has a note about Swim attire for use in the water parks: Swimwear with rivets, buckles or exposed metal is not permitted on the water attractions. Wetsuits are not permitted on body slides. One-piece swimsuits are recommended on the more thrilling waterslides, like the Summit Plummet attraction.

Food And Drink At Typhoon Lagoon
All the food options at Typhoon Lagoon are either quick service restaurants or smaller snack stands. There are no table service restaurants.
Several restaurants and bars are seasonal and will be closed outside of summer. Well refer to those that are not seasonal as year-round even though the park itself is not open year-round.
Altogether, there are ten food and beverage spots. Really this is two quick service restaurants, three bars, and five smaller snack stands. There are also two Joffreys Coffee stands. One is near the entrance across from High N Dry. The other is next to Surf Doggies.
One final note, there are beverage refill stations throughout the park, but these do not work with Disney hotel mugs. Instead, you either need to purchase a new mug for $11.99 or reactivate an old mug for $8.50 . The mugs work at both water parks and your one day covers use at both parks. Well start our overview of your food & beverage options with the year-round options.
Adding Water Park Half Days
If youre just squeezing the theme parks into your existing park dayssay, by visiting them some morning and then the theme parks in the afternoonthe analysis is pretty straightforward. Youll get the Water Park and Sports Add On or Park Hopper Plus because the added activities and flexibility are worth the small additional cost over the single day water park ticket.
It also might make sense to go straight to park hopper plus instead of stopping at the Water Park and Sports Add On. Basically, youd be giving yourself park hopper privileges for $25 to $35 per ticket. Park hopper is a complicated question at its standard prices, but if youre already settled on adding the water parks, Id definitely go all the way up to park hopper plus.
