Overview Of The Disney Moderate Resort Rankings
You can pretty simply break these rankings down into key points:
Port Orleans French Quarter has good rooms, isnt too big, and has a single bus stop
Coronado Springs has the best rooms, but is large and has multiple bus stops
Port Orleans Riverside is the most beautiful, is getting new rooms, but is big and uses multiple bus stops
Caribbean Beach has okay rooms, is big, uses multiple bus stops, but also has the Skyliner
Not to cheat you out of a list, but you really could pick any of those bolded points and say thats enough to lift it above the other moderate hotels because they hotels are pretty similar in terms of quality.
We still rank them, and that ranking basically reflects how much value we find in the above bolded items. This isnt a case like the value resorts or the deluxe resorts where there are some close calls but the overall gap between first and last is large. The overall gap between first and last on this list is very small.

The Best And Worst Disney World Resorts At Every Price Point
Whether you are planning your first or your one hundredth trip to Walt Disney World, selecting the perfect resort to fit your needs is a big job. But with over 30 accommodations from which to choose, it can be hard to whittle it down.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Checking into Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa feels like stepping into a seaside Victorian resort . This lovely Deluxe resort is just one stop away from Magic Kingdom Park on the monorail, and you can see the nighttime fireworks or the Electrical Water Pageant for a magical end to a day at the theme parks. From the resort, you can walk to the Magic Kingdom, hop on the monorail to Epcot, or grab the buses to the other Disney parks. There are several dining options, including a “Beauty and the Beast”-themed lounge, Enchanted Rose, plus pools, a spa, and more.
Disneys Coronado Springs Resort
Since its recent refurbishment and the addition of the Gran Destino Tower, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort has become one of the top choices in the Moderate resort category. Located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom, this Spanish-, Mexican-, and American Southwest-inspired hotel has one of the best pools on property, with a 50-foot Mayan pyramid centerpiece and a 123-foot waterslide . Rooftop Toledo Tapas, Steak, & Seafood and Dahlia Lounge offer upscale Spanish flavors with a great view. We recommend staying in the Gran Destino Tower for easy access to the restaurants and resort transportation with nearly 2,000 rooms spread out in many buildings across the resort, some are a bit of a walk from the main tower.

Worst Disney Deluxe Resorts
Disneys Riviera Resort
Disneys Riviera Resort is the newest of all of the Disney World resorts, and its minimalistic yet elegant design portrays that. In its design, Disney definitely took its guests requests into consideration, particularly in terms of transportation and the range of room options.
The transportation situation at Disneys Riviera Resort is fantastic. With the new Skyliner, guests of this Disney World resort can easily travel to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
Disneys Riviera Resort also offers a very wide range of room options. While you rent a cozy tower studio for two adults, you can also stay in a three-bedroom villa that sleeps up to twelve people ! Basically, no matter the size of your group, this Disney World resort will have a room for you.
The reason that Disneys Riviera Resort made it onto the worst section of this list of Disney World resorts is that the theming is not nearly as pervasive as it is at other WDW resorts. While its supposed to bring up images of the European Riviera and the Côte DAzur, it simply doesnt.
Disneys Wilderness Lodge
Disneys Wilderness Lodge is a beautiful property that celebrates the beauty of American nature and wilderness. As a guest of this Disney World resort, youll be able to hike, jog, fish, swim, and have a campfire! Basically, you can do anything you would do in one of the U.S. great national parks.
Walt Disney World Swan And Dolphin Resorts
Like a few other properties on this list, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts aren’t Disney-owned properties, but their close proximity to the parks and on-site Disney resort benefits make them worth checking out. Plus, Marriott Bonvoy members will be happy to know that they can earn points here because these are Marriott-managed hotels. Guests can enjoy perks like early entry and extended hours at Disney parks and complimentary transportation . The hotels offer a range of suites and guest rooms, six pools, and 18 restaurants and lounges. Plus, the brand-new Walt Disney World Swan Reserve opens in fall 2021.

Worst Disney Value Resorts
Disneys All-Star Sports Resort
Disneys All-Star Sports Resorts niche theming and poor location make it the worst Disney World resort. While it is the one of most affordable resorts, it really doesnt feel like Disney, so the question becomes, is it even worth it?
If Im being honest, the only real upside to Disneys All-Star Sports Resort is the fact that its affordable. A standard room that sleeps four people costs just $99 per night. Compared to the other Disney World Resorts, thats definitely the cheapest .
The sports theme is very limited, so, unless everyone in your group is into sports, it wont be enjoyable for everyone. As a matter of fact, its so sports-focused that it actually doesnt seem to have that much of a connection to Disney. That said, if you are a sports fan, all of the sports-themed décor throughout the resort will definitely get you into the competitive spirit.
Another downside to Disneys All-Star Sports Resort is the fact that its very far from the parks. While you can get to Animal Kingdom pretty easily using the Disney bus system, the other three parks require a rather complicated route.

Other Walt Disney World Area Hotels
Some of these hotels are actually on property and some are just off property. Recently Disney has included some to take part in the special offerings that property hotels have to offer including Extra Magic Hours and 60 days advance FastPass+ booking. These hotels can be cheaper than Disney-owned hotels and some can be far more expensive. Over-all, we actually love many of these hotels and frequent them often.
Swan and Dolphin Hotels Review We actually really like these two property hotels that are managed by the SPG/Marriott group. They are located in the same area as BoardWalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club but are usually much less expensive. While the resorts themselves are centered around conventions, they are still a great option for those who like to be close to the parks including Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
The rooms are a bit dated and we dont like the resort fees they charge each night but for the price we still think they are worth it. Both hotels offer lots of places to eat too and the pools are pretty decent. The busing system is okay and is shared between the two hotels and sometimes BoardWalk Inn. Because they are managed by the SPG/Marriott group, if you have membership points with them you can use them to book rooms here which is always a plus.

Disneys Pop Century Resort
Next up is one of the Disney hotels that has a lot of quirky, loveable qualitiesDisneys Pop Century Resort! This hotel opened back in 2003 but received a glow up a few years ago . The larger-than-life theming centers around centuries running from the 50s all the way up to the 90s a blast from the past! You can give your kids a nice history lesson on what a corded home phone was as you pass all the giant retro decorations.
All of the rooms at this Resort were refurbished in 2017, and they really got quite the facelift! They now feature one queen bed, laminate floors
and a murphy bed that is a table by day and a bed by night! The decorations also got a little upgrade to finish off the retro vibe that the hotel has going for it!
Like other Value Resorts, there is a large pool at the center . Theres another pool in the shape of a computer in the 90s themed section and a bowling pin-shaped pool in the 50s section.
As we mentioned for Disneys Art of Animation Resort, Pop Century shares a Skyliner station so you have gondola transportation to and from EPCOT and Disneys Hollywood Studios from your hotel. For all other resorts and Disney Springs, there are Disney buses to get you there!
Because there are two forms of transportation and upgraded standard rooms, the price per night is a little higher than other Value Resorts. But if youre willing to pay the extra bucks, the upgrades do make a big difference.
Best Character Dining At Disney World Resorts
Character dining is a quintessential Disney experience, and while there are many character meals at Disney World, the best character dining at Disney World resorts can be found at these restaurants:
Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White at Disneys Wilderness Lodge
Cost: Dinner $35 to $59.99 per adult
Type: Character Dining
Most Disney character meals are about the characters and less about the food, but that isnt the case at Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White. Featuring visits from Snow White, Grumpy, Dopey, and the Evil Queen as well as a delicious, prix fixe menu of elevated dinner dishes, this signature restaurant meets Disney character dinner is a must for any Disney Princess lover.

Topolinos Terrace Flavors of the Riviera at Disneys Riviera Resort
Cost: Breakfast $35 to $59.99 per adult

Cuisine: French, Italian
Breakfast à la Art with Mickey & Friends at Topolinos Terrace is another meal at Disney World that takes character dining to the next level both literally and figuratively. This Disney character breakfast offers upscale AM dishes with a hint of European flair and interactions with Mickey and his pals all dressed up in their artsy best along with birds-eye views of the resort below from the restaurants rooftop patio.

Moderate Resorts Vs Value Resorts
But on trips when price is an issue, youll be choosing between the moderate resorts and the value resorts. The main reason we ever pick the moderate resorts over the value resorts is theming.
You can look at the pictures of all the value and all the moderate resortsif being surrounded by gigantic colorful figures isnt your style, youll probably prefer the moderate resorts.
Room size is something of a perkbut how much? Weve stayed in value rooms with four adults. It wasnt great, but it also was only for about 30 minutes before bed and 30 minutes before leaving in the morning.
If you need extra space for getting ready, two people get ready while two get breakfast, then you swap. Either way, an extra 10% to 20% space doesnt really attract us to the moderate resorts.
Slightly better food courts and an okay table service restaurant dont really move the needle for us. If dining options are important, youre mostly going to need to stick to deluxe resorts or to eating outside your resort hotel .
Then theres rooms. The value resorts will be mostly fully refurbished in early 2022, while most moderate rooms have only gotten recent soft refurbishments. This is going to be a hotel-by-hotel, or even a room type-by-room type situation.
Most the most part, moderates have rooms with two queens beds, though there are a few king bed rooms .

Disneys Coronado Springs Resort

The grounds at Disneys Coronado Springs Resort are absolutely stunning. The combination of Spanish, Mexican, and Southwestern influences combined with the natural beauty of Lago Dorado make the atmosphere of this Disney World resort absolutely breathtaking.
The restaurants at Disneys Coronado Springs Resort are also fantastic, especially for a moderate resort. Located right in the middle Lago Dorado, Three Bridges Bar & Grill is a true standout. If youre looking for an option thats a little classier, Toledo serves up some divine Spanish cuisine.
