When Does Magic Kingdom Let People In

Long-time Disney visitors know that there is the official opening time for a park and then there is the time Disney typically starts letting guests inside, which can be up to 30 minutes before the official opening time.

Disney has put a formal stamp on this unofficial opening time by allowing onsite resort guests to always have access to the parks 30 minutes before non-Disney Resort guests. This access for on-site guests is called Early Theme Park Entry and we have more info on that below.

So, if you want to be there for Rope Drop at Magic Kingdom, we recommend arriving to the front of the park no later than 45 minutes before the official opening time.

Heres how to do that:

  • If you are taking the bus to Magic Kingdom youll need to be down to the bus stop 90 minutes before the official opening time. That should put you on the first or second bus of the day .
  • If you are driving to Magic Kingdom, youll have some extra steps involved because you will need to make time to park and then take the ferry or monorail over to Magic Kingdom. We recommend you be at the Transportation and Ticket Center parking booths about 60 minutes before Magic Kingdom is scheduled to open.
  • And, the same for the boats and monorail. Aim to get into line at your resort no later than 60 minutes before the park opens.
  • If you are walking , aim to be to the security checkpoint about 45 minutes before park opening.

How Does It Work

In order to access the Extended Evening Hours, guests will need a valid ticket or pass and a theme park reservation for the same park on the same day. You will also need to use your MagicBand, Disney MagicMobile pass, or Key to the World to prove which resort you are staying at.

Guests can enter with an Annual Pass or with the Park Hopper option as long as they already entered the park where they had a reservation earlier in the day.

Its important to note that Disney says that select attractions are running during Extended Evening Hours. While not every single attraction is open, most of the popular E-Ticket rides are available.

Merchandise, as well as food and beverage locations, are also running during Extended Evening Hours, though its a limited number of dining locations and not all of them are open.

Park Hopping is also possible with Extended Evening Hours, so you can be at another park earlier in the day or evening and then head over to either EPCOT or the Magic Kingdom to enjoy the extra time. Just keep in mind that you need to have entered the park where you made your original park pass reservation before park hopping to a second park.

Remys Ratatouille Adventure Added To Extended Evening Hours

When the new Extended Evening Theme Park Hours originally started in October, Remys Ratatouille Adventure was not included in the list of attractions open during the event. Now that has changed and Remys Ratatouille Adventure has been added to the list and is available to ride.

As of this writing, its unclear if guests will still need a boarding pass to ride or if it will turn into a standby queue during the event.

With Remys Ratatouille Adventure added, that makes a total of 9 attractions available at EPCOT during Extended Evening Hours. We are happy that it will be available as it gives guests more opportunity to ride one of the most popular attractions in the park.

Stay tuned for more updates to Extended Evening Hours and keep reading down below for all the details about this event.

How To Make The Most Of Early Theme Park Entry At Wdw

Disney World Updates Theme Park Hours for November

To best take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry, you should try to get to the park at least an hour before opening. If you arrive at 30 minutes ahead of time, you will be behind lots of other resort guests who will already be in line for the most popular rides.

You should prioritize popular rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Peter Pans Flight at Magic Kingdom, Remy, Frozen, or Test Track at EPCOT, Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, or Mickey & Minnies Runaway Railway at Hollywood Studios, and Flight of Passage or Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom. The extra 30 minutes of operation is a rare chance to get on these rides for a shorter wait.

Pros And Cons Of Walt Disney World Extra Magic Hours

The main pro of Walt Disney World Extra Magic Hours was the extended time in the park. Unlike the new program, you would get one to two extra hours to experience the attractions with only other resort guests in attendance. Another benefit was that some of these extra hours would happen in the evening. With evening hours, non-morning people could get more enjoyment out of Disney parks without waking up early.

EMH was not without its drawbacks though. For example, towards the end of the program, the park offering EMH would often have higher crowd counts all day. Many guests would flock to those parks on Extra Magic Hour days to get more park time over the parks without the EMH hours.

Another con of Extra Magic hours was that the Extra Magic Hours calendar fluctuated, making it hard to keep up. The schedule would be announced far in advance but did not often have rhyme or reason to it, making it hard to remember.

What Was The Walt Disney World Extra Magic Hours Program

Extra Magic Hours at Disney World began in 2005 and was a program that allowed resort guests to enjoy extra time in the park either before or after regular park hours. The hours would change and rotateby park so that not every park had Extra Magic Hours every day.

Extra Magic Hours was often one to two extra hours inside the park with fewer crowds. It could be in the evening, or allow resort guests entry into the park an hour or two prior to regular opening hours. Schedules were published and changed often, so guests needed to be on their toes if they didnt want to miss any of the Disney World Extra Magic hours that took place during their trip.

Disney World Releases Park Hours Through March 2022

Walt Disney World Park Hours Reduction Extended

Disney World has updated their park hours calendar once again, so we now have more information on when the parks will be open.

The calendar previously only went through March 6th, but we now have hours for all four theme parks through March 15th. If youre heading to Disney World this March, check out the current hours so that you know how to play your Disney day.

Here are the current schedules for the four Disney World parks, plus Disney Springs. Keep in mind that operating hours can change, and well let you know if we hear about any changes or additions to this calendar.

For all four parks, park hopper is available from 2PM until park close. Guests staying at a Disney World hotel also qualify for Early Theme Park Entry, which means that they can enter the parks 30 minutes before other guests. This applies to each park every day, as long as you have a park pass reservation for the one youre visiting.

From , Magic Kingdom will be open from 9AM to 8PM.

It will stay open from 9AM to 9PM from .

Magic Kingdom will have Extended Evening Hours for guests staying at Deluxe Resorts on , which last from 8PM to 10PM.

Planning Around After Hours And Extended Evening Hours

You dont specifically have to plan around After Hours or Extended Evening Hours because the park simply closes for guests who dont have access to that event. The only thing to be aware of is that nights with these offerings might involve the park closing earlier than other nights. To maximize your time in the parks, try to avoid being caught at a park that is closing earlier than normal.

        Staying Late At Magic Kingdom

Like all of Disneys parks , just because Magic Kingdom closes at some time doesnt mean you have to be out of the park by that time.

The closing time is the when guests will stop being allowed to line up for rides. In most cases, you will be able to get in line for a ride right up until closing time. Because there can be exceptions to thisdue to capacity issues or ride breakdownswe dont recommend you rely heavily on this. Rather, this is a good time for a bonus ride you would otherwise skip or a re-ride on something big.

While the last people are allowed into line for the rides at closing time, some stores will remain open and anyone still in the queue for a ride will get to ride and then leave. The stores at the front of the park will be open latest.

Depending on the precise schedules for the day, the nighttime show Disney Enchantment may begin or end right around park close.

At Magic Kingdom, most of the post-close activity will be on Main Street USA and in front of the castle. You can expect to see photographers setting up to get low or no-crowd photos.

Periodically, the Kiss Goodnight will be played, thanking guests for visiting and politely telling them to wrap up and leave. While Disney buses will run until the last guest leaves the park, theyll do so on a significantly more limited schedule as it gets later, and the later exits almost always have to share buses.

        Skip The Food & Shopping

Though it might be tempting to spend the time stop for late dinner or do some souvenir shopping at the few places that are open during Extended Evening Hours, we suggest you save these for another time.

As we just mentioned, two hours can fly by. And while it might seem like you have time to go on rides and chow down on some food, unless youre grabbing a snack to go, there are better ways to take advantage of the blissfully fewer crowds.

Walt Disney World Resort is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary and is planning for a crush of visitors to its theme parks over the first week of April, when it has extended its hours in preparation for the additional guests.

According to the Disney website, Magic Kingdom will now be open until 11 p.m., with extended evening hours taking effect April 6. Select Disney Resort hotel guests can visit the park until 1 a.m. starting April 6.

Disney World To Reduce Theme Park Hours Starting This September

‘Disney After Hours’ coming to Magic Kingdom

All four Disney World theme parks will have reduced hours starting Sept. 8.

Starting Sept. 8, Disney World will be reducing the hours of Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disneys Hollywood Studios, and Disneys Animal Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios will be closing an hour earlier, at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively Epcot will be closing at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m., and Animal Kingdom will shave an hour off in the morning and in the evening.

The news was shared on the theme parks My Disney Experience Disney World app and website this weekend.

Starting Sept. 8, Disney World’s hours of operation at each theme park are:

        Magic Kingdom: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

        Epcot: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

        Disneys Hollywood Studios: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Disneys Animal Kingdom Theme Park: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the latest operational update from the Florida theme park resort since it reopened in July after closing in March amid the coronavirus pandemic. Upon reopening, Disney World implemented a number of new health and safety protocols across its theme parks, hotels, and the Disney Springs shopping and dining district. These new measures include required face coverings for guests and cast members, physical distancing guidelines, increased cleaning and sanitization, reduced capacity at the theme parks, and more.

Show Up Early & Stay Late

While lengthy Extended Evening Hours feel like a luxury compared to the half-hour head start provided by Early Theme Park Entry, those two hours go by fast particularly since the ride lines wont truly empty out for about an hour or so. If you arent already in the park, plan to arrive before it closes to other guests to get a jump on the night.

On evenings with fireworks, this is a great time to either start your night with a bang or take advantage of some shorter lines while other parkgoers enjoy the show. Then, if you arent too tired, try to stick it out until the end to capitalize on significantly crowds and shorter lines.
