Tips For Navigating Disney World

Google Maps is great but imperfect. We recommend using Google Maps to navigate Walt Disney World, but you should know that because different areas are accessible to different groupsCast Members, security, regular guests, etc.youll need to also keep an eye on the overhead highway signs to make sure youre going the right way.

Follow the Purple Signs. If you stick to following the overhead purple signs, youll never leave the Disney World campus. This might not always be the fastest route to your destination, though.

You cant drive directly to Magic Kingdom. As discussed more below, guests are not allowed to drive directly to Magic Kingdom, even just to drop someone off. Youll have to utilize the Transportation and Ticket Center.

Alternatives To Having A Car At Disney World

  • Free transportation provided by Disney and/or your hotel

  • Uber / Lyft / Minnie Vans

  • Personally, we draw the line at rental car costs, and we very rarely drive to Magic Kingdom from the hotels. When we have access to a car in Florida, well use it for Disney World trips. We find the hotel parking costs to be worth the convenience of getting to Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios, along with any meals at other hotels.

But if wed have to pay for a rental car, we just dont find it to be worth it. If you use Uber/Lyft or Minnie Vans for urgent transportation and just bite the bullet with free transportation otherwise, youll usually be able to find a sweet spot of convenience and price.

How Much Does It Cost To Park At Disney World

Parking Fees are coming to Walt Disney World Resort

When you approach the theme park gates at Disney, youll notice three different options for parking fees.

    1. Standard Parking: Car or Motorcycle $25 per day

Standard parking at the Disney Parks may require you to be parked a little ways back from the gate. Dont worry, there are trams that can take you to the front area of the park at no additional fee.

Hipster Power Tip: Remember that the Magic Kingdom is the busiest theme park in the world so be sure to get there an hour and a half before to the gates open.

This may seem radical, but if youre parking you have to take into consideration:

    • Finding a parking space.
    • Getting on the tram to the transportation ticket center.
    • Taking the monorail or boat over to the Magic Kingdom gates. There can be a very long line to get on the monorail or the boat.
    • Getting through the ticket turnstiles. This may take a while due to new security safety measures of having your bags checked.

    2. Preferred Parking: Car or Motorcycle $45 to $50 per day

This area is located the closest to the park front gates. Disney Cast Members will also give you a bottle of water when you choose this option.

Keep in mind that the prices for Preferred Parking do vary based on the season that you visit.

    3. Oversized Vehicle Parking: Shuttle, Limo, Camper Trailer, RV, Bus or Tractor Trailer $30 per day

This is a Disney parking fee that you will pay if you plan on parking one of these vehicles on property.

Parking Tips At Walt Disney World

    • Take a photo of your parking lot number or note it down somewhere. Its easy to forget after a day of fun.
    • Remember, it may be faster to walk to a park entrance than take the tram it depends on how far out youre parked.
    • Parking trams do not accept children seated in strollers youll need to take your child out and fold the stroller.
    • Stay aware when youre getting out of your car in a parking lot. Keep kids, especially young ones, within sight. Cars will be parking behind and beside you.
    • You can leave your electric car to be charged while youre away. Youll get a notification when its fully charged.

In conclusion, Disney Preferred Parking may well be worth the extra $20-$25 if youre a family with young kids and are visiting at a busy time of the year. On the other hand, older kids and adults can easily walk or take the tram from the standard parking lot to the theme park entrance. And if youre visiting in a slow season when park attendance is low, you may well be able to get parking close to the entrance by paying the standard parking fee, thus saving on the Disney Preferred Parking fee.

Walt Disney World Parking Fees Explained

Trip Tips: Parking at Disney World | Driving to Disney World Resort

Let me clarify. Standard Parking fees at the theme parks are $25.00. If you paid the overnight parking fee at a Value Resort, it would be $15.00. Since youre allowed to park at the theme parks for free while staying at a Resort, you would save $10.00 in this example.

If you qualify for complimentary Resort parking because you have a disability permit, it would cost nothing to park at the theme parks. Confusing, yes? Think about how I feel trying to find a way to explain it.

Also, there is Preferred Parking at the theme parks. The fees range from $45.00 to $50.00 per day based on seasonality. It complicates the equation even more. Again, Ill refer back to my example above. Suppose you paid the overnight parking fee of $15.00 at a Value Resort. Then if you wanted to park in Preferred Parking at the TTC, youd have to pay an upcharge of $30.00 to $35.00.

However, there is no charge for Standard Parking at the two water parks, Disneys Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Additionally, Standard Parking at Disney Springs is also free. Valet Parking is available at Disney Springs, but there is a flat fee of $20.00 for that service. It doesnt matter if you have a disability permit or not youll still have to pay.
