Disney World Fast Passes 2021

Abandoned And Misreported Concepts

2021 Disney World Fast Pass Plus 101 & TIPS !! Help SKIP The Lines On Your Next Disney Trip!

Disney had plans to build in , but canceled the project in July 1965.

In the 1960s, Disney initiated a plan for a ski resort at in California. Opposition from environmental groups led by the led to a temporary court injunction in 1969 and legal battles through the 1970s. The project’s planning and scale changed multiple times, and in 1978, Mineral King was annexed into , ending any possibility of developing a resort there.

Disney had plans to build a park named in , but abandoned the idea in 1994. On September 28, 1994, announced Disney was canceling its plans after a bruising national media fight with Protect Historic America, and aggressive local opposition in Virginia from Protect Prince William and other citizen groups.

Disney had plans to build a smaller Disneyland-style theme park in Sydney, Australia, between 2007 and 2008, with the proposed name “Disney Wharf at Sydney Harbour”, but the concept was abandoned due to mixed responses in the .

If You Dont Want To Pay For Fastpass+

Naturally, there is going to be a huge number of people who will be outraged if Disney decides to bring paid FastPass+ to Walt Disney World. Many guests already complain about the sky-high prices of park tickets, food, and merchandise, adding more costs to ride the attractions will not go over well with many.

What happens if you dont want to pay for attractions then?

Your choices will likely depend on each individual attraction. Most rides will likely have a stand-by line that you can just wait in like you currently do. Even if you can skip the line for Space Mountain for $10, you can also just wait in line for 60 minutes and ride that way.

However, if the ride is extremely busy like Rise of the Resistance, or if it is a packed day in the parks, it might not even have a stand-by line. Perhaps in that case it will use the Disney Virtual Queue instead for whoever is able to get a boarding pass.

I want to emphasize that for now these are just rumors and nothing has been announced yet by Disney. However, it does seem we are very close to a Disney World paid FastPass+ system, and we might see it before the end of 2021.

Stay tuned right here at Ziggy Knows Disney as we will be updating you as soon as something becomes official.

How Much Does Maxpass At Disneyland Cost

MaxPass at Disneyland costs $20 per person per day.

If you want to upgrade to Disney MaxPass, which allows you to reserve FASTPASS from the free Disneyland app and with slightly better restrictions than the paper-ticket system, youll need to pay $20 per ticket per day. MaxPass covers both parks, but youll still need park hopper to visit both parks.

We have a guide to FASTPASS and MaxPass if you need to know more. In our Disneyland planning guidewe highly recommend paying for the MaxPass upgrade. Among other things, it saves you the trouble of going back and forth between FASTPASS distribution kiosks. Youll also be able to grab reserved space for Fantasmic and World of Color from your phone.

For the most part, MaxPass wont impact the return time on your FASTPASS. If everyone else is grabbing return times for the end of the day, yours is also going to be for the end of the day.

Disney Genie+ Tips & Tricks

Now that youve got the basics down, here are some very important tips and tricks for getting the most out of Genie Plus.

1) Be sure to have these things already done well before 7 am: have your resort reservation linked , have park tickets purchased for everyone in your party, have tickets linked to My Disney Experience, and have a Park Pass secured for that day.

2) If you are adding Genie+ day by day be sure to add it in advance of 7 am. You want to be ready to make your first reservation right at 7 am.

3) The Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations for Slinky Dog Dash will disappear faster than for any other attraction. Grab a Lightning Lane reservation immediately at 7 am, especially if you are park hopping and want an earlier time.

4) The most popular Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations in Magic Kingdom are for Peter Pans Flight and the Jungle Cruise. I suggest grabbing a Lightning Lane reservation right at 7 am for Peter Pans Flight. And as soon as you check-in for that attraction, grab a reservation for the Jungle Cruise. The rest of the attractions at Magic Kingdom should be easier to get.

5) For Epcot and Animal Kingdom, you can wait until you are actually in the parks to decide if you want to purchase Genie+ for that day. If the standby waits are getting long and the Lightning Lane return times are good, you can purchase it on the fly. This is better than buying it ahead of time only the discover you didnt need it at all that day.

What If I Live Just Outside Of Florida

Disney Fast Pass 2020: Ultimate Guide + Free Printable Cheat Sheet ...

Some Georgia and Alabama residents may live a literal stones throw away from the border between them and Floridaand they might be much closer to Orlando and Disney World than, say, someone in Miami or Key West.

Even so, only Florida residents are eligible for the Florida Resident Monthly Payment Program and the three tiers of passes that are reserved for Florida residents only.

No exceptions, alas.

The Rest Of Your Genie+ Selections

Know which rides run out of return times first, and second, andIf you head over to an example date and park on Thrill Data and scroll to Lightning Lane Availability Map, you can see what times the different Lightning Lanes ran out of return times. On the example date here, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ran out first at 11:45AM, then:

  • Peter Pans Flight ran out at 5:05PM

  • Big Thunder Mountain ran out at 5:55PM

  • Winnie the Pooh ran out at 6:00PM

  • Haunted Mansion ran out at 6:35PM

  • Splash Mountain ran out at 7:20PM

You can see each of these had availability pop up at least one time after they ran out, but for the most part after these times you probably werent going to get these.

Standard disclaimers applythis random date in November I showed you wont look exactly like your date. Youll want to look at more recent dates near your trip. But part of the strategic takeaway is that you want to make sure you can book these Lightning Lanes before they run out.

On this example day, if at 2PM someone had booked a 6PM return time for Pirates of the Caribbean, theyd better have already booked Jungle Cruise. They cant make another selection until 4PM , and by then, Jungle Cruise was out.

You can monitor the current return times on the Genie Tip Board to see if anything is close to running out. The safe approach to these is just to grab the most popular Lightning Lane first and then the second most popular second, and so on. That will mean you use fewer Lightning Lanes overall.

I Recommend Genie+ At Hollywood Studios In Most Circumstances As Well

Youll get a lot of use out of Genie+ at Hollywood Studios as well.

There are many Genie+ Lightning Laneattractions at Hollywood Studios that typically have long waits during the middle of the day.

These include the Millennium Falcon, Slinky Dog Dash, Toy Story Midway Mania, Rockin Roller Coaster, and the Hollywood Tower of Terror.

Unless you are visiting with very young children who cant go on most of these rides, youll probably want Genie Plus at Hollywood Studios.

Does Everybody In Your Group Need A Fastpass Even If They Arent Going To Ride

This is a very common question and one we see most often for people using their FastPass reservations for character greetings.

Just like the regular attraction lines, the FP+ lines for the characters all have the same touch points where you scan your MagicBand or ticket to redeem your FastPass+.

Anybody that enters a FastPass+ line will be asked to scan and if you dont have a FastPass+ reservation for that attraction, you wont be allowed in. This includes when meeting characters.

So, while you may have no plans to take a photo with Cinderella or Mickey or Ariel, if your young traveling companions arent old enough to stand alone in line and you plan on using FastPass+, youll both need to make FastPass+ reservations.

How Many Fastpass+ Do I Get Per Day

Three is the short answer. Well, three that can be booked in advance.

And your first 3 FastPass+ reservations must be for all different rides.

However, you can get more FP+ reservations after you use the ones you booked in advance.

Once your initial 3 FastPass+ reservations are used, you can use the My Disney Experience app . You can also go to a kiosk and get another.

After that one is used, you can get another. And so on.

These additional FastPass+ reservations can be in the same park or a different park and can be for the same ride over and over, if you want.

Disney Fastpass+ Frequently Asked Questions

What is FastPass+?

FastPass+ is Disney’s reservation system that allows guests to book advance reservations for experiences and attractions in the park. Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels can make FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance of check-in for their entire length of stay. Guests staying at select hotels also get this benefit. These include:

Guests staying off-site can make reservations up to 30 days in advance of each day of their theme park visit.

Is FastPass+ free?

Yes, it is free for everyone visiting the parks who has valid admission.

What are MagicBands?

MagicBands are rubber bracelets that contain an embedded RFID chip and function similarly to regular RFID park tickets. They both offer touch-and-go functionality at the park entrances, at FastPass+ attraction queues and with PhotoPass photographers. The bracelets are more practical since you don’t have to fumble in your pocket or backpack for tickets every time you enter a park or use FastPass+. Just make sure the Mickey head on the bracelet, which contains the RFID chip, touches the Mickey head RFID reader!

MagicBands offer additional functionality if you are a resort guest: They serve as your room key . You also can associate a credit card with the band so that you can touch to pay for purchases around the property after you have entered your pin. Non-resort guests who purchase MagicBands cannot add credit card functionality to their bands.

Would You Pay Extra For Fastpass+ In Disney World

Get the ultimate guide to Disney Fast Pass for 2019 plus a FREE ...

Today, Disneyland Paris announced that they would retire their complimentary FastPass service and introduce Disney Premier Access, a paid program that would grant a guest access to an expedited wait time for rides and attractions. The cost of the program fluctuates between 8 to 15 per guest, per attraction.

Because of this announcement, many may be wondering if a similar paid system is on the way to Disney World. If that were the case, would you pay?

FastPass+ has been a free service for all guests at Disney World since its paper FastPass system first debuted in 1999.

Since then, FastPass has grown into a cornerstone of Disney World planning for countless guests. Whether its your first trip or your one hundredth trip, youve likely relied on FastPass for making sure you can experience all of your favorite rides and attractions on Disneys busiest days.

Since Disney Worlds closures in 2020, FastPass+ has been suspended with no word on if or when it will return. In fact, the biggest development regarding the future of FastPass+ may have arrived earlier today with the announcement from Disneyland Paris and the introduction of Disney Premier Access. While we still do not know if or when FastPass+ will return to Disney World, this might be a major clue for how Disney may want to approach their expedited wait time program here in the states.

Would YOU pay for FastPass+ if it returned with a fee? Let us know in the comments!

How Do I Use My Lightning Lane Reservations

Similar to the Disney Fast Pass system, when it is time to use your Lightning Lane reservation just head to the attraction and look for the entrance to the Lightning Lane queue.

Then you will be asked to scan either your park ticket, Magic Band, or Magic Mobile pass on your phone.

You may have to scan your band or ticket one more time before you get on the ride.

Thats it you are now checked in for your Lightning Lane reservation and you can make another selection right away in the app.

What Are Lightning Lanes

This is the only easy part of this post. Lightning Lane is the new term for the FastPass line. That is, Lightning Lanes are shorter lines for rides that you need to get special access to. Lightning Lanes are how you skip the line at Disney World moving forward. As for how you get access to themkeep reading .

Individual Lightning Lane Strategy

There isnt as much strategy around individual Lightning Lanes as Genie+ because you simply have to pick you up-to-two rides and the times you want to ride them. Here are some tips.

Dont miss your return time. Early reports are Disney is being very strict with these return times. Do not book them in conflict with dining reservations etc.

Know when bookings run out. As with Genie+, individual Lightning Lanes can run out of return times. Generally youll go into your day knowing what rides youre going to book, and youll do that ASAP. But some days you might decide to wait and see how your morning goes. In those cases, you need to be sure you have an idea of when return times will run out.

We talk more about these in the individual park posts, but you can look up the recent data on Thrill Data.

Try to ride between 12PM and 4PM. This is when waits are at their peak, so you wont be missing out on anything else in the park. An individual Lightning Lane that has you riding at the very start or very end of the day makes little sense since you could be getting on rides with short waits during those times.

Be careful when park hopping. Related to Dont miss your return time, if youre park hopping you might not want to book a 2PM-3PM slot in case youre delayed getting between parks.

How Can I Use A Lightning Lane

Do THIS At Disney World 2021! Disney World Fast Pass & Vacation Planning

The primary ways to use Lightning Lane are through Genie+ and individual Lightning Lane purchases. With these serviceswhich we cover in much more detail in this postyou will book a return time, consisting of an hour-long window, for a ride.

During your return window, you can approach the Lightning Lane at the ride you booked, tap your Magic Band or park ticket on the touchpoint. The touchpoint should turn green, and youll be let through. You may have to tap at a second touchpoint later in the queue. If the touchpoint turns blue, it means something has gone wrongmaybe you arrived too early or youre at the wrong ride, for example.

The Lightning Lane will generally be a much shorter wait than the regular line, but it merges with the regular line usually a few minutes before you board the ride. This means a wait of around 5 minutes is very common, even with Lightning Lanes.

Other services, like DAS and rider switch, also use the Lightning Lanes, but they arent the subject of this post.
