Will Disney World Ever Sell Annual Passes Again
- Publish date: Jun 29, 2022 1:26 PM EDT
Annual passes have suffered during the pandemic at both Disneyland and Disney World. Walt Disney’s – Get The Walt Disney Company Report California theme park actually cancelled its annual passholder plan early in the pandemic and replaced it with a new system, the Magic Key, many months later. Disney World suspended annual pass sales during the pandemic as well and made changes to its program .
This happened because covid-related rules and protocols forced the company to manage its crowds more than it ever has. Disney imposed a reservation system and capacity limits at all of its parks. A certain percentage of those reservations were set aside for passholders, but there were still days when demand exceeded supply.
That created a bad experience for passholders because what’s the point of paying for unlimited access to the parks then being told you can’t actually access the parks on the day you wanted to go?
This forced Disney to cut off sales of most annual passes at its Florida theme parks and all annual passes at Disneyland in California. Basically, the company still has to manage demand and that meant not allowing more people to buy annual passes than than the new capacity rules allowed.
That, as you might imagine, disappointed many fans who wanted to take part in the unlimited magic that comes with being an annual passholder. Disney has been very conscious of that and has put select passes on sale when capacities have allowed it.
So When Will New Annual Pass Sales Return
We have not heard from Disney as to when new passes will become available, but we can speculate why they may have paused sales. Many people believe that the Park Pass Reservation system and limited capacity restrictions have played a large role in this. It would not be fair for Disney to sell annual passes if the parks were not going to be operating at a high enough capacity to accommodate new Passholders. Many people believe that until crowds lighten up and capacity is raised back to 100%, Disney will likely not return to selling new passes. For now, guests are still permitted to renew their passes, but new passes are not being sold.
As the world moves closer to the normal of pre-pandemic days we can only hope that Disney follows suit and brings back annual pass sales. Of course, we at Chip & Co. and Disney Addicts will let our followers know as soon as we get more information.

What If I Live Just Outside Of Florida
Some Georgia and Alabama residents may live a literal stones throw away from the border between them and Floridaand they might be much closer to Orlando and Disney World than, say, someone in Miami or Key West.
Even so, only Florida residents are eligible for the Florida Resident Monthly Payment Program and the three tiers of passes that are reserved for Florida residents only.
No exceptions, alas.

What Has Been Going On With Annual Passes Since 2020
So, what exactly are these changes, and why are they such a big deal? Well, the first big update to the program came in March 2020 when Disney Wold announced that they would be halting the sale of new Annual Passeswith the temporary closure of the parks.
Then, for almost a full 18 months, there were only a few ways to secure a new annual passthose who had an annual pass that had expired or been canceled previously could get a new pass on a case-by-case basis, and kids in a family of Passholders who turned 3 since the park closures could get a pass since they now required paid admission to enter the park.
Disney remained pretty silent on when annual pass sales would resume until August 2021 when they announced that they would go on sale before the start of the 50th-anniversary celebrations. And, at the end of the month, Disney revealed that sales would resume on September 8th, 2021 but the program would be completely new.
Previously, there were seven different annual pass options available in Disney World , but Disney completely overhauled the tier system, narrowing the options down to four new levels the Disney Incredi-Pass, the Disney Sorcerer Pass, the Disney Pirate Pass, and the Disney Pixie Dust Pass.
The new tier system mostly caters to Florida Residents, as the Disney Incredi-Pass is the only one available to out-of-state guests though it also includes the most perks and no blockout dates.
And, this hasnt changed since.

Florida Resident Disney World Ticket Discounts
In order to qualify for Florida Resident ticket and annual pass discounts, you have to show proof of residency such as a valid Florida drivers license or Florida state ID card, showing a Florida address. These tickets and passes are also controlled using a biometric finger scan, to prevent them from being transferred to non-Florida residents. Disney has the system down to a science trust us, you really cant buy or use these tickets unless you actually live in Florida!
If your primary ID is from a different state, but you do own a residence in Florida, even one you only use part of the year, you can generally buy Florida resident tickets and passes by showing, for each adult, an ID from another state plus a recent utility bill or bank statement in the same name , addressed to your Florida residence. Timeshares are not considered residences for the purposes of buying Florida Resident tickets and passes.
The only exception is small children since Disney cant reasonably require them to show residency through an ID, its technically possible for Florida residents to buy Florida resident tickets for non-resident kids. For instance, if Grandma and Grandpa live in Florida, they could accompany their grandkids who live outside Florida to Walt Disney World, and buy the kids Florida resident tickets.

Its been a long road to recovery for Disney World since they first closed at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. And, while much of the guest experience has returned to normal , there are still some lingering impacts.

Annual Passholder Room Offers
Annual Passholders regularly have access to special Disney hotel offers. These usually have substantial overlap with publicly available discounts, with the annual passholder benefit being slightly expanded dates or an extra 5-10% off. This isnt a huge margin, but it does make some of the cheapest dates at Disney World even cheaper.
Annual Passes And Park Reservations
Just like all guests, annual passholders are required to make a Disney Park Pass Reservation for each day they want to visit the theme parks.
Before this update, annual passholders were limited to 3 park pass reservations at one time. Now, however, the Pirate Pass, Sorcerer Pass, and Incredi-Pass each allow for 4 or 5 park pass reservations at a time. The Pixie Dust Pass is the only one that is still limited to 3 reservations.
On top of the normal reservation limits, annual passholders staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel will be able to reserve a park pass for each day of their stay. So if you are staying for 7 days, you can make 7 different park pass reservations, plus you will have your normal allotment of 3, 4, or 5 on top of that.
If you still have an old annual pass, you also can now hold more park pass reservations. Starting September 8, 2021, Platinum Plus, Platinum, and Gold Annual Passholders can hold five reservations at a time, while Silver Passholders will be able to hold four.

When Were Some Passes Paused Again
When the new annual pass program was released Disney made it clear that it could yet again be put on hold at any time. It didnt take long for Disney to do just that, and on November 21, 2021, all sales of passes except the Florida resident Disney Pixie Dust Pass were halted. Yet again, people found themselves unable to purchase new annual passes.
