Cost Of Food At Disney World

Other Than Saving Money Why Should I Get A Disney Dining Plan

How Much Should You Budget For Food at Disney World?

Aside from saving money, one of the top reasons to use the Disney Dining Plan is that you dont need to stress about having enough money for food while there.

This is initially why my family started using the DDP. Running out of money or nearly dying of shock after your trip is not anything anyone wants to experience because of a vacation.

The DDP is simply one more thing Disney World does to make it the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Average Cost Of A Table

Dining at a full-service or table-service restaurant at Walt Disney World is much different than quick-service. Elaborately-themed restaurants with impeccable service comes with a much higher price tag, and the table-service options run the range of fun and kitschy to sophisticated and refined. The prices can have a wide range as well.

Some of the casual table-service locations at Walt Disney World include 50s Prime Time Cafe at Disneys Hollywood Studios and Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom. Both are open for lunch and dinner, and both serve American classics like meatloaf, sandwiches, and other casual fare. Entrees range from $17-$24 for both lunch and dinner.

Then there are family-style options, and locations that used to be a buffet but are now served family-style. These table-service locations offer all-you-care-to-eat. A platter or skillet is served with a variety of food. Additional helpings are provided whenever you like and can be the full variety of food or just specific items you select. Liberty Tree Tavern at Magic Kingdom is one such location with family-style dining. Lunch and dinner are currently the same price: $39.00 for adults and $21.00 for kids ages 3-9. Three courses are served: a mixed salad, Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake for dessert, and the main course is a platter of Roasted Turkey Breast, Pot Roast, and Oven-roasted Pork with Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, Herb Stuffing, and Macaroni and Cheese.

Food & Beverage Price Increases And Menu Changes Being Implemented At Walt Disney World Despite Closure

Despite the parks being closed indefinitely, internal changes to Food & Beverage continue as menus are constantly updated and prices are raised across Walt Disney World.

Changes come in the form of the aforementioned price increases, albeit despite the usual $0.25 to $1.00 increases we typically see across the board from quarter to quarter, were looking at much heftier price increases, ranging from $2 increases for meals to $4 increases for alcoholic beverages.

There are price increases across various menus at restaurants throughout property, but here are some of the stand-out changes. At Tortuga Tavern, for example, the Turkey Leg with Chips meal is up from $12.49 to $14.49 Similarly, the All-Beef Hot Dog with Chips is now $10.49, up from $9.49. Another interesting change here is the removal of both the Tostones and Ropa Vieja, which means we may be looking at more pared-down menus upon the parks reopening.

Breakfast Budget At Disney World

Breakfast is the primary food of the day and youll need a healthy breakfast to get you started for your day in theme parks. There are a variety of choices for breakfast.

The quick-service restaurants in the resorts offer breakfast. They offer traditional breakfast choices including oatmeal, eggs, Mickey waffles, and many more.

If youre looking to make it to the parks before breakfast, there are numerous kiosks and restaurants that are quick-service offering breakfast options. Fast service breakfasts are priced around $12 for adults and $8 for children.

There is also the option of table service during breakfast. All the luxury resorts as well as some moderate ones have table-service restaurants that serve breakfast.

Some parks also do. Breakfast is usually the least expensive meal offered at restaurants. The budget should be at minimum $20 for adults and $12 for kids and children, excluding beverages.

Character dining is a huge hit during breakfast. The most popular places to enjoy character breakfasts include the Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary Resort, Tusker House at Animal Kingdom, and Cinderellas Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom. The prices for breakfasts at the Magic Kingdom for characters typically fall in the third price tier range from $35-$59.99 per person.

The gift shops at resorts sell the same kinds of food items but theyre usually priced too high. It is also possible to order them through a delivery service.

Option : A More Precise Way To Budget For Food

If youre looking for an even more precise dollar amount, we can help with that, too.

First of all, you can always go to the official pages for each of the restaurants and review the menus. Most will have prices there so youll be able to see exactly what things cost.

Do a mock order for yourself and family and youll get really close to what the final dollar amount will be.

If that sounds too tedious, there is another way.

For years we have compiled data to help people using the Disney Dining Plan figure out the best values for their credits.

But with the DDP on hiatus, the best values arent going to help very much.

But what will help are the average prices for meals at each restaurant. And weve got that data, too.

    Is Disney World Food Affordable

    Whats your Disney food budget?

Disney World has a lot of ways you can eat, so you can expect to spend about $200-$250 per day on food for a family of four.

This estimate is based on one Quick Service meal, one Table Service meal, and one snack and drink purchase for all four people.

At table-service locations, our estimate does not factor in breakfast, alcohol, or gratuity, as these can be significant factors or not.

For all four people, one Quick Service meal, one Table Service meal, and one snack and drink are included in this estimate.

Breakfast at Starbucks or the Kiosk could cost another $20 $30, but a full breakfast could add another $50 $70.

Theres a lot of variables: a family of four could easily stay under $200 per day or easily spend over $300 per day.

Disney World allows guests to bring their own food if they want to save money on some of their dining costs. We have compiled a great list of snacks to pack, in case you want to save that way.

Coolers cant be bigger than 24 inches by 15 inches by 18 inches.

Ice packs are allowed, but coolers with loose ice arent.

You cannot bring alcohol or glass bottles into the parks.

You can bring food into the parks, but you cannot heat it.

Any way you slice it, Disney World food is going to cost you. Be sure to plan ahead and know what you want to do, once youve decided stick to your food plan. It will make your stay that much better.

    Signature Restaurants And Dinner Shows

Prices at signature restaurants are much more expensive than quick-service or table-service restaurants, with meals costing up to $60 a person. However, some menus have reasonable prices for large appetizers, and diners who are dedicated to saving money and creative with their ordering can likely get away with spending around $13 a person.

Although signature restaurants and dinner shows aren’t technically part of the Disney Dining Plans, some restaurants accept Dining Plans by charging two table-service credits for a meal. These places tend to be more upscale restaurants and experiences, such as Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Show or Jiko The Cooking Place.

    Our Restaurant Ranking Factors

When we originally thought about writing this article it sounded like a lot of fun, but we soon realized it was much harder than we thought to rank the best restaurants in Disney World. There are so many amazing places to eat and to narrow them down took a big effort.

Of course with hundreds of restaurants to choose from, some of them are excellent, some good, and others just plain awful. Overall though, dining at Disney World is a great experience and it gives you a chance to try all sorts of food you otherwise wouldnt try back home.

We encourage you to branch out and try new cuisines outside the standard American fare traditionally found at theme parks. Thats why we wanted to give you a definitive rankings so you know which restaurants are worth trying and which to skip.

We didnt use some scientific method or any fancy spreadsheets or charts. We used our gut , in our hundreds of visits to Disney World throughout the years.

Some of the ranking factors we considered are:

    • Food Quality
    • Restaurant Theming and Ambiance
    • Extra Disney Magic

Our rankings are for sit-down or table service restaurants only as we have another list of the best counter service restaurants at Disney World. Some of them are fancy restaurants you go to for a romantic dinner, while others are very casual to take the whole family.

Why We Like The Disney Dining Plan Model

How expensive is Walt Disney World vs. Tokyo Disneyland? | Tickets, Hotels, Food, & Merchandise

Before we dive into the particulars of your Disney dining budget, the main reason why the Disney Dining Plan Concept works is that it pretty much gives you your plan for the day. And by that, we mean that you know what youre eating based on your plan. The plan we like best is the basic Disney Dining Plan. This gives us a snack credit breakfast, which is a great way to save some money since you know well be at Starbucks anyway. And we usually do have a stack of Kind Bars or breakfast bars in the room too to help offset breakfast needs. This model also gives us 1 table service meal and 1 quick service meal. BUT, in the absence of the dining plan, this is how we budget something similar. Per Person, Per Day.

Breakfast Cost At Walt Disney World

As mentioned above, there are several ways to do breakfast at Walt Disney World. On vacations where we know were going to be in the parks for the bulk of the day, we sometimes will just have kind bars, or Nutri-Grain bars in the room with our in-room coffee/ tea before we head into the parks for the day. Of course, we know well grab a coffee at some point before lunch, so this free breakfast in the resort can keep us going until lunchtime.

Our favorite breakfast is often at Les Halles Boulangerie de Pattiserie in Epcot France. This is a quick-serve breakfast and you can get a sandwich and coffee for about 12 dollars.

Other mornings you may want to make special with a character breakfast at Trattoria al Forno. So think about this before your vacation. Plan out your restaurants and dining plans ahead of time so you can nail down your dining budget for Disney.
