Walt Disney World may be full of magic but as any experienced mouseketeer can tell you, planning a Walt Disney World vacation takes a lot of time and patience. One important aspect of a Disney World vacation is transportation. As the Disney parks are significantly spread out from one another you will need easy transportation between the parks and your hotel if you choose not to use the Walt Disney World bus system.
Taking an Uber or Lyft around Walt Disney World is actually quite convenient and believe it or not, relatively inexpensive! Take a look below at our top tips on taking Uber and Lyft at the Disney Parks and around Orlando, FL. Our team has experimented personally with taking both Uber and Lyft vehicles for our Disney vacations and would recommend ridesharing at Disney for your family vacation as well!

Taking Uber To Disney From Universal
Hey there! We’re heading to Orlando next week and are staying at Universal’s Sapphire Falls hotel. We are going to Disney just for one day, and are planning to visit Animal Kingdom first thing in the morning and then head to Magic Kingdom around lunch/for the rest of the day. Looking at the transportation options, it seemed like Uber was probably our best bet. I can’t recall, from my last trip about a decade ago, whether cars can actually drive up to the parks? I’ve always taken Disney transportation and was unsure whether Uber can actually drop us off AT AK and pick us up from MK, or if we will have to go somewhere and walk/catch a bus/etc. Also, what’s the best way to get between the two parks? We have Park Hopper passes. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for the reply! I did actually read both of those, but didn’t see information on where specifically the car could take you at AK and MKI’m just trying to figure out if I need to go somewhere specific. I didn’t see that information in either link, particularly for AK, but maybe I missed it.
I’m a cheap butt, so you could always Uber to the closest mark to your hotel and just take Disney transport from there, we’re probably gonna end up at Disney springs almost every night anyways and that’s not too wildly fair from I-Drive, where we are staying
Wonderful experience and we would definitely use the service again.

Can Uber / Lyft Use Disneys Contemporary Resort For Magic Kingdom Drop
Sometimes yes, but security guard may redirect your driver to the Ticket and Transportation Center . This is likely to happen during busy times such as holidays and RunDisney weekends.
The official policy is that drivers must use the TTC as this is the official ride-share zone for Magic Kingdom Park.
If you have a dining reservation at Disneys Contemporary Resort, your driver will be permitted to enter the lot.

Canceling Rides Penalties And Disputes
If you have to cancel a requested ride, you may be subject to a monetary penalty from Uber. This is to compensate the driver for the time they spent on your ride.
If the driver just wasnt following the directions to you, you can usually request a refund of any penalty. Relatedly, if your driver takes a longer route than expected, Uber may charge you more than it originally quoted you. If this is your drivers fault, you can request Uber adjust the amount to the quoted amount.
Ubers strategy with these issues tends to be to give a little each time you ask. Getting a full refund for a ride, even a completely botched one, isnt straightforward and will involve multiple requests.
Disney World Minnie Vans
The Minnie Vans service is temporarily suspended until further notice and we have no official word from Disney World on when they will resume. There’s rumors that they’ve been discontinued permanently but only time will tell. You can keep up to date on all of Disney World’s reopening changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic in our guide.
Since they were introduced in 2017, Minnie Vans have become one of the easiest ways to get around Disney Worldnot to mention how cute they are.
This service is a special option inside the Lyft app. You follow the exact same instructions for using the app that are explained above, however you will need to activate the Minnie Van option by visiting the concierge of your Disney World hotel or activating the service via your My Disney Experience app.
Unlike the surge pricing in the Uber and Lyft apps, the pricing for Minnie Vans stays consistent. This new service is locked in with a $25 fee and will take you directly from your pickup location to your destination. Though usually more expensive than normal Uber and Lyft rides , it can work out to about the same price when choosing to take a Minnie Van. The new service is definitely less expensive than a taxi at Disney World. The true beauty of this new ride-calling service is that the cars can get closer to your destination than any of the other ride-sharing cars. They have the ability to travel in the bus lane that is reserved for Disney World vehicles.

Should I Use Lyft Or Just Rent A Car
Considering renting a car at the airport? You might want to think about using a service like Lyft instead.
Now that Disney charges resort guests for parking, it makes the cost of having a car on property a lot more expensive and the idea of using a service like Uber or Lyft far more attractive.
Not only will you save on parking fees and rental car fees, you also wont have to worry about trying to find a parking place at your resort or having to deal with parking at the parks.
Sure, Disney makes parking easy, but in most cases, if you Lyft or Uber to a park youll have a lot less walking than if you drove.
It involves a little math, but you can crunch the numbers to see what makes the most sense for you.
Make sure youre factoring in everything. Some things to consider
- Take a look at your daily plan and map out which days youd likely be driving to the parks. For reference, we usually do a mix of Disney buses and Lyft each day.
- You can get estimates for the cost of your fares on the Lyft website .
Now, total it all up and see which is the best option.
How Much Does A Ride Between Orlando International Airport And Disney World Cost With The Uber App
Lets say you are staying at Disneys Grand Floridian Resort & Spa . According to Google maps, the ride between Orlando International Airport and the Grand Floridian hotel is 24.5 miles via highways FL-528 and I-4 W. That equates to about 26-minutes of driving time without traffic.
Based on Ubers price estimator, the least expensive Uber option is the Connect, followed by the standard UberX. You can also opt for a larger or fancier vehicle or one for pets or equipped with car seats but specialty Ubers do cost more than your standard UberX.
So how much will cost to go from the Orlando Airport to Disneys Grand Floridian Resort & Spa? The answer is $34.70 for an UberX. Your fare will increase or decrease depending on which type of vehicle you request.
The fares listed below are based on the type of car you choose. These are the current rates and are subject to change. I would encourage you to use the Uber price estimator for the most up-to-date pricing.
Uber Vehicle Options and Fares between Orlando International Airport and Disneys Grand Floridian Resort & Spa:
- Connect $32.42
- Black SUV Car Seat $112.46
- Black Hourly $107.73
Please note that Uber uses a pricing model it calls dynamic pricing also know as surge price. This simply means that fares are subject to increase when there is higher demand. In other words, normal Uber fares increase during peak hours.

Why Should You Try It
There are lots of times when Lyft can make getting around easier, quicker, and so much less stressful.
Even if youve never used Lyft before, we think you should at least consider it when at Disney World.
If you dont live in a city where taxis or ride sharing is common and this is all brand new to you, the thought of hopping into a strangers car may seem a bit intimidating at first.
But trust us:
The entire process is very easy, and the app makes it simple to go from Lyft novice to full-blown expert quickly.
More on how it all works below.
Why Wouldnt Everybody Use It
Sounds like a good idea, right? Well, there are a couple of situations where you might not want to use Lyft.
We dont recommend Lyft at Disney World if:
- You have a lot of luggage or people that would require a higher level of service and maybe not make as much financial sense.
- If you are travelling with a child needing a car seat, a Minnie Van may be a better option. Minnie Vans seat 6 people and have 2 car seats available, however they cost considerably more.
- Surge pricing makes it cost more than its worth to you. Surge pricing is when Lyft and Uber increase their normal rates due to high demand. This used to be a lot more common than it is now that there are more drivers, and, in fact, its been several trips since weve seen surge pricing. The app will tell you the full rate before you request a car so youll know the fare ahead of time, though, so you wont get sticker shock when you get the payment.

Tip : Plan Ahead And Schedule An Uber Ride
If your plans are set in stone, you can actually schedule an Uber ride ahead of time. You can schedule a ride up to 30 days in advance, and if you schedule at least an hour in advance, the price of your trip will be locked in. This can be especially convenient if youre planning on using Uber to get from the airport to Disney World or if you know that you need to leave the park at a specific time to make a dining reservation.
Heres how ride scheduling works through the Uber app :
Note that you can edit or cancel the scheduled ride at any time before your pick-up time.
Riding In Your Requested Car
Then once your Uber arrives, all you need to do is sit back relax and enjoy the ride to your destination.
Then once you get there, just walk on out. No tipping, no money exchange needed.
Its that simple.
Once your ride concludes, youll then get an email and notification telling you how much your trip was, as well as an option to rate your ride on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best.

Better Drivers With Lyft
And, finally, the drivers themselves.
Weve had far more positive experiences with Lyft drivers than Uber, in part because it appears the minimum driver rating for Lyft drivers in Orlando is higher than for Uber.
Dont get us wrong, weve had some amazing Uber drivers , but the drivers weve had with Lyft have been superior by far.
Why Should I Use Uber
The reason I started using Uber is because I was constantly going down to Disney World with my partner while under the age of 25 and was not open to paying the underage fees rental companies love. I own with the Disney Vacation Club, , so was staying at Disney but also wanted to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and needed a way to get there.
Thats where Uber came in. It really is inexpensive and very convenient. Sometimes Ill fall asleep after a long day after the dark while being driven home, and what do I care if there is traffic. I am no longer eligible for the underage rental car fee but I still hate driving and Uber makes more sense budget wise. You might align with the same reasons to use Uber as I do, you might be underage, not have a valid license, hate driving, or due to high rates renting a car does not work.
Can I use Uber around Disney World?
Of course, you can! In fact, I suggest it over anything else. Uber drivers can get into Disney theme parks, resorts, etc. Uber will pick you up where you find the metered taxis. As you know, I am set on helping you plan your Walt Disney World vacation on a budget and using Uber at Disney World will save you a ton of time, money, and effort.

Use A Rideshare Service
If you like the idea of leaving the driving up to someone else, but dont want to use your time seeing all of the Disney properties on the bus route, then ridesharing may be for you. With the exception of the areas we discussed above, ridesharing is allowed even encouraged at Walt Disney World.
There are three options for you to consider:
Take Advantage Of Disneys Extensive Transportation System
Busses that go everywhere, monorail, water taxis, even sky gondolas. There are a lot of options when it comes to Disney transportation. The rub for people tends to come in when they want:
- A direct route Just as you would experience on a city bus route, the Disney busses have a route they take too. Whether that be to all of the resorts, to the transportation center, and then to Disney Springs and then to a Theme ParkYou get the picture. Patience, experiencing the journey, and enjoying the free ride are all your friends when youre using Disneys transportation.
- Crowding There are certain times of the day or of the year when you can count on very crowded buses and monorails. Again, if youre used to this because you live in a major metropolitan area and use public transportation, then it may be no big deal.
If, on the other hand, you tend to get claustrophobic, learning to avoid the busses during the park opening, park closing, and after the parades, may be in your best interest.

Uber To Magic Kingdom
Taking an Uber to Magic Kingdom is the most complicated, as only Disney transport is allowed to drop off directly at Magic Kingdom. So where does an Uber to Magic Kingdom drop you off at?
Everyone besides Disney transport has to go through Transportation and Ticket Center , and thats where Uber drivers have to pick you up and drop you off. Uber knows this and will direct rides to Magic Kingdom to TTC:
If you have an inexperienced driver, you absolutely must make sure they follow the signs for drop-off and dont head into the parking lot.
There was an old trick we never directly advocated where people would use Contemporary for Uber pickup and drop-offs. Since the resort reopening in 2020, Disney has become very restrictive with who they let into their lots. I mention this old trick here now just to warn you that your driver might not be let in if youre not a guest of the resort.
What Is Ridesharing And Why Would You Want To Use It At Disney
Lyft and Uber are two ridesharing companies that service Disney World as well as many other locations across the US. Ridesharing is a relatively new term that refers to a service where individuals agree to provide you transport in their personal vehicle for a fee.
If it all sounds a little sketchy, lets take a step back. Ridesharing companies are legitimate businesses that hire contract drivers to chauffer customers around. Before being allowed to drive for either company, drivers must submit to a screening process. This includes a background check and a check on their driving record.
If youre thinking this sounds similar to calling a cab, there are some distinct differences, primarily how you interact with the company and hail a ride. Instead of phoning a central dispatch to have a car sent your way, you must download the Lyft or Uber app. This is your interface for hailing a driver and receiving a ride.
