Goodie Bags From Pluto
Calypso guards her elaborate goodies from Pluto. Photo by Cathy Salustri
When we checked in to the dog-friendly Port Orleans Resort Riverside, each pup received Plutos Welcome Kit.
Calypso and I have stayed at plenty of dog-friendly hotels where the goodie bag was a roll of dog bags and a single dog biscuit. Not so at the Walt Disney World Resort!
The Disney World Resort goodie bags included Disney-themed dog bowls, a Pluto placemat, and yes, a roll of dog poop bags but they came in a yellow dog-bone shaped holder that clipped to the leash.
We also received a door hanger alerting housekeeping about our pets. Im going to be honestI was a little jealous.

Service Dogs Versus Companion Animals
Only working service dogs are permitted in the Disney theme parks. A service dog is one that helps a person manage a disability the assistance needed can include both cognitive and physical challenges. Service dogs are covered by the ADA and welcome in most public places these are considered working animals, not pets. Service animals must be properly trained, and have a vest. Cast members are trained to know the difference between service animals and companions, and guests may be asked to leave if the dog is not behaving properly.
For those who have pets, your pet is welcome on a leash in the Disney Resort hotels but not the theme parks. You can also use the on-site kennel facilities as needed and spend time with him each day.
Disney World also recognizes that not all service animals are dogs. Mini horses and other animals that are working service animals are included in park rules as well.
What You Need To Bring Your Dog To Disney World
Any time you travel to a hotel or other pet-friendly destination, you will need to bring along proof of vaccinations. You should provide your hotel with this information in advance and bring a copy with you just in case.
While Disney provides you with a cute doggy welcome pack with an identification tag, your pet should also have a tag with ID, just in case. Bring your own pet food with you. While food and treats are available at each of the dog-friendly Disney World resorts, your pet will likely be most comfortable with his own diet.
You can find costumes, leashes, toys and more in the gift shops at each of these designated resorts. Youll also find pet gear in many on-site shops in the parks and hotels but bring along any important toys your dog needs or wants to have with him.
Your dog needs a sturdy leash and collar for safety and to comply with Disney World resort rules.

Best Friends Pet Hotel
Those of us a bit older might remember the days of Pet Care Centers located around Disney World. Kennels were on-site for guests choosing to pay to board their animals for their stay and guests could visit the kennels, like at the entrance to EPCOT or the Transportation and Ticket Center near Magic Kingdom, to walk their pets and visit each day.
The times have changed and since 2010, Disney World has partnered with Best Friends Pet Hotel, which is a full-service animal care facility that offers daycare services for pets from a few hours to full overnight visits. If you need to leave your dog for longer than seven hours or would prefer not to leave them unattended in your room, this is a great option for Disney World guests. This pet hotel is located near Disneys Port Orleans Resorts.
Hourly rates begin at $28 and overnights begin at $47, all the way up to $109 for a VIP Luxury Suite if you REALLY want to pamper your pup! And while Disney does not allow cats on any Disney World property, Best Friends Pet Hotel does!

Service Dogs And The Das
When the Frog Family travels with a tadpole with a disability, we use the Disability Access Service card to fully explore and enjoy the parks. If you are already getting the DAS for your visit, then your service dog can be included cast members will even snap his picture! While you can get a DAS, you dont have to. You are not required to get a DAS card simply because a service animal is with you, the ADA and company policy allow him to accompany you to most destinations in the resorts and theme parks. Here’s the scoop on the toadally helpful DAS card for disabilities.
Bringing your service animal to the Disney World Resort can help you have a better time and ensure you are comfortable on your vacation. Both froglets and grown-up guests can still enjoy the services of a working companion while visiting the park and having a frogtastic time.

How To Bring A Pet Into The Disney World Theme Parks
According to the official WDW website, other than service animals, dogs are not permitted in theme parks, water parks or common areas such as restaurants, pools and recreational spaces.
Translation: youll only be able to bring your dog into a theme park or waterpark if its an official service animal. Yours must be on a leash at all times and needs to be under full control.
Additionally, service animals may not be allowed to ride certain ridesand attractions due to their nature. If you want to ride an attraction that doesnt allow service animals on it, you have two options: Rider Switch or a portable kennel. For Rider Switch, youll need to have an additional member of your party wait with it.
And lastly, service dogs or miniature horses arent allowed in any of the water features in the theme parks. So, that means youll need to keep them away from splash pads, water play areas, and fountains.

How Can I Take My Dog To Disneyland
There may be some limitations on where the animal can go, for their own safety, but please feel free to check with a Cast Member at any attraction to see if they have Rider Switch or a portable kennel option while you ride. Outside of service animals, unfortunately regular pets are not allowed in Disneyland Park.
Rides And Safety Restrictions For Service Dogs At Disney World
While many rides are service animal friendly, the following restrictions apply to your companion. Most restrictions are in place for his safety and yours and involve ride restraints these are frogtastic for human riders but not so great for our four-legged friends:
- Animals cannot safely ride roller coasters such as the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Expedition Everest or any of the mountains. They cant be secured in the seat, so riding puts them at risk. They are permitted to board most other attractions as needed. Animals that cant board can wait with another member of your party while you ride, in a process similar to the child switch program.
- Areas with live animals are often restricted service animals are not permitted in the Affection Section or open aviary locations Kilimanjaro Safari allows service animals if needed, but owners are urged to use caution.
- Animals can safely ride slower moving attractions that do not require safety restraints and those that have enough space and seating. Trams, monorails and other modes of transportation are service animal friendly.
- Animals are restricted from the waterways, beaches and water attractions, including fountains in the resorts and theme parks. This is for their own safety and the enjoyment and safety of other guests.
Any ride that has restrictions can still be enjoyed your service dog can accompany you to the ride loading area or wait with a companion at the ride exit.

Family fun without part of your family can make for a difficult time. This is why Disney World is allowing Pets at the Disney Fort Wilderness Resort Campsites and Cabins. Also, take a look at some of the other Pet Friendly Resorts in Disney World. There are a few things you need to be aware of if you bring your pet. This can be done on the Disney App or Disney Online when booking. You cannot bring a pet if you are staying in a tent or a pop-up camper. And, one more thing, the only pets allowed are dogs.

You know your dogs temperament better than anyone so if you know your dog will be happiest back at the room while youre out exploring the parks, this solution could work for you.
Butif your dog cant handle long stretches of being left alone you might receive a call from your hotel asking you to return to your room and calm your doggo down if hes barking a lot. Youll have 30 minutes to return to your room and quiet your dog down. Disney also recommends not leaving your dog unattended for more than seven hours at a time.
