    Disneys Yacht And Beach Clubs

Disneys Yacht and Beach Club are popular for its shared pool complex, Stormalong Bay, and walkable distance to Epcots back door. Both are modeled after traditional beach resorts of New England and have lovely, formal lobbies.

Guests can walk easily to Epcot or take a water shuttle to Hollywood Studios. Stormalong Bay has a super fun pirate ship waterslide and a sand bottom pool that make it a great resort choice during warm months for swimming. The most sought-after reservation on property is the small Beaches N Cream old fashioned ice cream parlor, but there is a take our window for those seeking the famous Minnie kitchen sink sundae.

Guests with kids tend to prefer the Beach Club, while guests traveling without kids often favor the Yacht Club, which also has a large convention center attached. The Beach Club offers DVC units, while the Yacht Club does not.

Worst Moderate Disney Resorts For Kids

The Best Hotel for Every Possible Disney World Vacation ...

    Disneys Coronado Springs Resort

We think Coronado Springs is a beautiful resort, especially after the recent refurbishment. It has great pools and dining options, but is just more adult friendly. Its also really spread out and you could end up walking a LONG way to get to the fun pool lobby or dining area. Our experience with travelling with kids is that they dont love to walk a long way at the resort, which can make it frustrating for parents who want to pop to the dining area for a drink or a change of scene.

Coronado Springs is also a conference hotel so there may be times when many of the other guests are adults travelling for business. We think this makes this a less child-friendly/appealing vibe and is another reason Coronado Springs isnt one of our top picks for best Disney resorts for kids.

    Disneys Caribbean Beach Resort

Weve said it before, theres honestly nothing horrible about the Caribbean Beach resort there are superior, pirate themed rooms which many kids would love and the pool is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. The resort is huge, and really spread out which, for reasons above, our kids wouldnt like .

We also think that there are other moderate resorts which have far more kid friendly theming. The Caribbean Beach is a beautiful resort, but we definitely dont feel like were in the Disney bubble, which our kids love and so its something we look for in our best Disney resort for kids.

Criteria For Picking Among Disney Resorts

This site selects from among the 25 or so possible Walt Disney World resort hotels based on two criteria:

  • Appeal to kids and
  • Transportation convenience, because of all the trips you will be making back and forth from your resort to the various parks, attractions and shows.
  • KID APPEAL

Kid appeal is principally visual, and it means whether the look of a resort has features that speak to kids of whimsy, playfulness, and adventure, signaling that that this resort was designed for them!

The resorts with kid appeal are, in order

None of the other resorts has enduring, whimsical kid appeal. See this for more on kid appeal.

    CONVENIENCE

These resorts noted above with kid appeal break into two categories.

    • The first 3 are classified by Walt Disney World as Deluxe resorts, and
    • The rest are classified by Disney as Value resorts

Because the price difference between these categories is so high, separate hotels are recommended within each of the two categories.

Within the kid-appealing Walt Disney World resorts, the tie breaker is transportation convenience, particularly to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot theme parks, as you will be making more trips to these parks than any others.

Of the three kid-appealing deluxe resorts, the Polynesian is far and away the most convenient.

See this for more on convenience.

Options By Budget: From Value To Deluxe

Price at Disney Resorts is by the room, and kids under 18 stay free. Some Deluxe rooms can sleep five, and at some resorts a crib can be added so that a family of five can stay in one room. And the Disney’s Vacation Club resorts which are available for rent by any guests have residential-style suites that can sleep up to twelve.

    Disneys Port Orleans Resort

This resort sits squarely in the Moderate category and, in fact, has yet to reopen at all after the pandemic closure. Its big and spread out, with more than 3,000 rooms combined across the French Quarter and Riverside areas. The French Quarter theme will remind folks of New Orlean, and fans of The Princess and the Frog will enjoy seeing Tiana in some guest rooms.

These resorts originally opened in the early 1990s, and though theyve been updated since, the rooms are still on the smaller side. Port Orleans has pools on both sides of the resort and youll also find horse-drawn carriages along the river. But neither have the sorts of activities that can keep kids occupied when youre not in the parks. The restaurants here are also focused on quick service.

Some folks love the charm of Port Orleans. But for the price, wed choose a Value resort over this Moderate resort.

Bonus: The Walt Disney World Swan And Dolphin Resorts

As a bonus, I also wanted to include two hotels that are great for adults but arent specifically considered Disney resorts. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts are located on Disney property by the Boardwalk and Yacht Club. So, they in an extremely convenient location and are some of the best hotels in the area.

However, guests at the Swan and Dolphin dont get all of the same amenities as on-property guests. They do, however, get to use transportation between the parks, which can be very helpful.

While the Swan and Dolphin are extremely comfortable hotels with great amenities, they dont have the same theming at the Disney resorts. So, kids may not be as excited by them. Adults, however, will appreciate the comfortable rooms and the delicious restaurants located there.

    Best Moderate Disney World Resorts

Moderate resorts at Disney World represent something of a challenge when it comes to vacation planning. Accommodations at some of these properties are certainly better than the Value resorts , but they tend not to have immersive themes like those priced both above and below this tier.

Best Overall: Disneys Art Of Animation Resort

Best Walt Disney World Resorts to Stay at in 2020

    Disneys Art of Animation Resort

This fun hotel truly feels like youre immersed in a Disney movie and has the largest pool at any Walt Disney World hotel.

    • Family suites sleep up to six

    • Skyliner gondola to Epcot and Hollywood Studios

    • Three pools

    • Long walks to some rooms

    • Cafeteria-style dining only

    • Large resort can be hard to navigate

There is no single resort on a Disney property anywhere else in America that feels as Disney as Art of Animation. The rooms at this resort are all Disney movie-themed, as are the common spaces and pools. The Little Mermaid area has 35-foot-tall statues of King Triton, Ursula, and Ariel. The Lion King area features its own Pride Rock. The Cars area is themed like the Cozy Cone Motel and features statues of characters light Lightning McQueen and Mater. The Finding Nemo section at the center of the property features the Big Blue Pool, a gorgeous ocean-inspired swimming area with statues of Nemo and his friends .

This sprawling property can be a little bit of a walk, but you can request rooms and suites closer to central resort locations. Keep in mind, though, that the closer you are to the main amenities like the lobby, cafeteria-style restaurant, main pool, or Skyliner the higher the room rate. Art of Animation features two kinds of rooms: standard value studios that sleep up to four people and family suites that sleep up to six.

    • Large resort can be hard to navigate

    • Bus transportation only to parks and Disney Springs

    Port Orleans Resort French Quarter

    Best Moderate Resort for Adults

Port Orleans French Quarter is one of Disneys smallest resorts and is highly sought after for its quaint ambiance and tranquility.

Themed around the pageantry and romance of New Orleans French Quarter, this Moderate resort is situated along with the lush landscaping of Sassagoula River.

While much of the theming may be lost on children, adults will be charmed by the magnolia trees, cobblestone streets, gas lamps, and wrought-iron fences.

There are jazz elements and colorful Mardi Gras icons throughout to contrast the romantic with the lively playfulness of New Orleans.

Some of the key features of Port Orleans French Quarter include the Doubloon Lagoon 225,000-gallon swimming pool with sea-serpent themed water slide, the Sassagoula River path , a riverboat ferry to Disney Springs, Scat Cats Lounge jazz club, a food court, and its close proximity to Port Orleans Rivers fabulous table service restaurant The Boatwright.

    Bottom Line:

    Resort: Port Orleans French Quarter

    Opened: May 17, 1991

    Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside

    Best for: Families, couples

On-site amenities: 5 pools including a water park and a catch-and-release fishing hole, food court

Pros: The hotel has a romantic, picturesque vibe, especially when you opt for a horse-drawn carriage ride around the property. There is also a food court with a vast array of options.

Cons: The resort is large and sprawling, so it is easy to get off course. It also takes longer to navigate to the parks since the main transportation option is the bus.

While Disney’s Port Orleans Resort French Quarter celebrates New Orleans proper, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside is an ode to the rural Louisiana Bayou.

All the rooms still have a bit of N’awlins flair, but we suggest upgrading to one of their Royal Guest Rooms, which includes more opulent furnishings and tributes to Tiana from “Princess and the Frog,” alongside other classic Disney princesses.
