Check Out The Best Ways To Get To Disney World From Orlando Airport
So, yes a Disney World vacation is pricey and thats probably not going to change much anytime soon. But, there are still ways to make it more affordable for your family if youre hoping to spend some time in the most magical place on earth.
How do you save money on your Disney World vacations? Comment below to let us know!
Without A Dining Plan
If you decide to visit WDW without a dining plan, take a look at some of your dining options ahead of time to try to game plan costs. Be realistic about how often youll want snacks, need to buy a bottle of water, or will crave a sit-down dinner. Also, be sure to factor in alcohol if that applies to you.
There are ways to cut down on costs. We always recommend bringing a box of granola bars and even ordering snacks to be delivered from the grocery store to your hotel. Even if you can just do breakfast this way, youll save a lot of money.
For simplicitys sake, we recommend budgeting at least $60 per day per adult and $35 per day per child. This doesnt include extras, so plan accordingly.
Is It Cheaper To Stay On Disney Property Or Off
It would stand to reason that staying off Disney property will save you money, but thats not always true. Granted, you will save a lot of money if you choose to stay at a Ramada Inn as opposed to the Grand Floridian . However, there are other factors you have to consider.
Disney ranks their resorts by tier: value, moderate, deluxe, and deluxe villas. The cheapest resorts are the value resorts, which include the three All-Star Resorts: Sports, Music, and Movies, Pop Century, and Art of Animation. On average, these resorts cost $150-$250 per night depending on the time of year youre visiting. Rates will be higher during the summer, special occasions like the 50th Anniversary Celebration, and the holiday season.

Its important to note that the average cost of Art of Animation can go into the $400 range, but this is because these have family suites. You can learn more about these here.
So, lets say you and your spouse/significant other/friend, want to go to Disney World for 7 days, with admission to one park each day. A week at Disneys All-Star Movies Resort, with 7-day tickets for two guests would be approximately $2,109.38.

Getting Around Disney World
Once you get to Walt Disney World, you need to know how to get around. Disney has their own complimentary transportation system guests can use and if you have your own car, you can park it at the hotel, or drive it to the parks.
Transportation costs are sneaky at Disney World, and all the fees and parking can really add up quickly. Here are your options
How Much Does It Cost To Get To Walt Disney World Resort
How you get to the resort can also affect the cost of your Walt Disney World vacation. Depending on where you live, airfare throughout the United States can run from $100 – $500 per person. However, once you arrive at Orlando International Airport, all of your transportation is included when you book a Walt Disney World Resort package for travel in 2021. Youll take Disneys Magical Express to your Disney Resort Hotel to begin your vacation, and board it to head back to the airport when your trip is through. Guests traveling in 2022 will need to budget for transportation to and from the airport and may want to consider a ride share like Lyft or Uber, a shuttle or even new train options that will be available sometime in 2022.
If you live close enough to drive, that can obviously help your family save money on getting to Walt Disney World. And once youre on property, all of the transportation, including the Monorail, boats, buses and Skyliner are all available to use at no cost.

How Much Does It Cost To Get From The Airport To Disney World
Orlando International airport is about 15 miles from Walt Disney World Resort. The good news is that its easy to get to your hotel, especially if youre staying on Disney property.
If youre flying into Orlando and staying at one of the Disney-owned hotels, then you are eligible for the complimentary shuttle transportation to and from the airport and Disney World. Simply add the complimentary Disney Magical Express bus service to your package and you will receive free shuttle transportation directly to your hotel.
If you are staying at a non-Disney hotel, then you will need to rent a car or use a rideshare or taxi service. Check with your hotel before you arrive.
Once in the park, all Disney transportation is completely free for everyone.
Annual pass holders get free parking, but if you arrive at a Disney theme park in your own car, then you will have to pay for parking. And if you are staying at a Disney resort but have your own vehicle, then you can expect to pay the following for parking:
- Disney Value resorts: $15 per night
- Disneys Moderate resorts: $20 per night
- Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts: $25 per night
Should you bring your own car, rent a car, or just use Disney Transportation?
Heres a helpful map of Disney World transportation.
How Much Is Your Time Worth
Another transportation cost youll want to consider is time. It takes time to traverse the 47-square-mile Disney World property, whether youre in a rental car, a Disney bus, boat or monorail. It can take even longer when there are special events such as holiday celebrations, runDisney races, cheer/dance competitions, and even Major League Baseball spring training!
I believe that time equals money on my Disney family vacation, so Im always thinking about the pros and cons of transportation to and from my hotel and the parks.

Example: Cheap Disney World Trip In 2021
This trip example is for the family of four that wants to save as much money as possible without skimping on any of the fun. For this example, Im going to leave out flights and transportation. Dates chosen are in July for 5-nights.
Hotel Disneys All Star Movies Resort
Disneys All Star Movies is usually the cheapest Value resort at Disney. This title as the cheapest Disney World resort typically switches between Pop Century during the year, however.
So for five nights, your stay comes out to $964.77 for a standard room to 2 full-size beds.
I opted for the 4-Day Base ticket without Park Hopper.
So for a family of four, tickets comes out to $1,705.60.
Food and Restaurants
To really save money, I recommend you skip any Table Service because they can be quite expensive. This hurts me so much to say since I love so many of the restaurants at Disney, but from a financial standpoint, it just doesnt work.
In general, Quick Service meals cost around $17 each with a free cup of water.
I think you should however get 1 snack a day which is around $7 or less.
So with 3 Quick Service meals and a snack, youre looking at $58 per person per day.
So that comes out to $1,392 for 6 days.
Everything extra at Disney World costs extra so Im going to skip it. That includes mini-golf, shopping, Firework Dessert parties, and other similar activities.
Total Price = $4,061.77
Cost For One Day At Disney World
If you dont want to go to Walt Disney World for your whole vacation in Orlando, you can visit for just one day and the price will be significantly cheaper. How much does it cost for one day?
- Park Tickets A one-day park ticket costs between $109-$159 depending on what time of the year you go. Lets split the difference down the middle.
- Food This is very subjective and depends on how much you eat and where. If you are going for one day you probably will be only eating at quick service restaurants and snacks . Over a full day you have to figure $40-$50 per person).
- Parking If you are only going to Walt Disney World for one day, you likely are taking a car to get there. In that case, you need to account for the parking fees at the theme parks.
When you add up park tickets, food and parking, going to Walt Disney World for one day in 2022 costs between $180 $200 per person.

Other Tips To Book A Cheap Disney World Trip
Beyond points and miles, there are other tried-and-true ways to lessen the financial hit of a Disney World vacation.
Enjoy your character dining off the property: Many hotels around Disney World feature character meals, in which costumed Disney characters come by and greet your family. They often pose for photographs and sign autographs. Disney also offers character breakfasts at its parks and resorts but theyre much more expensive. Save money by indulging in this luxury at your off-the-property hotel rather than at the parks.
Consider buying an annual pass: Although Disney has temporarily stopped selling its annual passes, when it does resume sales, consider purchasing one for a member of your family. Annual passholders are entitled to additional discounts on hotels, merchandise and food. Depending on how many people are in your party and how long youre staying, purchasing a pass can actually save you more than you spend for the pass itself.
Look into free activities. Wander Disney Springs, walk along Disney’s boardwalk or visit Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge to view exotic animals like giraffes and zebras. There are even more free things to do around Disney World, and thoughtfully scheduling these kinds of activities can help keep your expenses in check.

We hope its also clear that a WDW vacation is possible in a whole range of budgets, from a value vacation aimed at experiencing the parks on a budget to a splurge vacation during one of WDWs most popular seasons, full of fun surprises and events.

Disney World Cost Calculator: Lodging
Lodging is a big determinant of your Disney vacation cost calculator.
Quite honestly, this is where you can either spend or save a huge chunk of money.
There are literally a ton of options when it comes to Orlando accommodation options, and prices can range from $100 a night to $800 a night or more.
Your individual selection will come down to your budget, space requirements, location, and availability.
Hotel accommodations are available in the following four categories:

Disney World Cost Calculator: Food
With a Disney World vacation costing anywhere from $1000 $5000 USD per person, one of the biggest determinants of your overall cost is the amount of money spent on food and dining.
After all, Disney World has a variety of restaurants to choose from, as well as special dining opportunities such as Character Dining experiences.
- Counter service : $10-$15 USD per person
- Sit-down: $20-$50 USD per person
- Character meals: $20-$60+ USD per person
- Prix Fixe meals: $29-$79 USD per person
Disney resort guests also have access to purchasing a Disney dining plan.
Essentially you prepay for a set number of meals and snacks to be used at different types of restaurants throughout your stay.
Your Disney dining plan cost calculator will be based on which Disney Dining Plan that you choose in terms of how many meals, snacks, and drinks that it includes.
If you want to reduce the amount you will spend on food, however, your best strategy will be to pack your own meals.
After all, you are allowed to bring food and drink into all Walt Disney World Parks.
We found a ton of value and convenience in stocking our Disney day bag with water bottles, sandwiches, fruit, and other healthy snacks to avoid the high cost of meals on-site.
Will The Disney Dining Plan Save You Money
The amount you spend on dining at Disney World will depend on the level of dining plan you choose, the time of year you visit Disney, and package deals.
Disney typically offers a short-term promotion that includes free dining when families book their hotel packages. The promotion is wildly popular and does sell out quickly, so you might want to speak with your Disney travel agent about if and when the promotion will be offered.
If you plan on eating at a lot of Table Services restaurants, then one of the more inclusive Disney Dining Plans will probably be your best bet, especially if you do plan on ordering an alcoholic beverage with your meal. One of the less expensive dining plan options should be more than sufficient for a typical family . And if you are a light eater or dont drink alcohol, then paying out-of-pocket may work out to be the cheapest option. It just really depends on what you plan on ordering and which restaurants you wish to go to.

Merchandise Souvenirs And Additional Expenses
With nearly 300 places to shop at Disney World, there are plenty of places to spend extra cash.
Pin trading is an especially popular hobby for many Disney aficionados. Costs of a single pin start at $9.99 or $15.99, depending on the details and intricacies of the pin “jumbo” limited-release pins cost as much as $120 each.
Guests can also hire a Disney tour guide to take them through alternative entrances of popular attractions, bypassing the lines. Costs start at $425 per hour, with a seven-hour minimum required.
Memory Maker is a popular add-on photo service that allows guests to purchase the rights to all of the photos taken by Disney PhotoPass photographers. It’s nonrefundable and costs $169 if purchased in advance or $199 if purchased in-person. A $69 single-day option is also available.
For $177, you can reschedule or cancel altogether otherwise nonrefundable vacations.
Pop Century Pools And Activities
Here are some pictures of the pools. First, the Hippy Dippy Pool between the 60s buildings.
And the Bowling Pool by the 50s buildings.
And finally the Computer Pool in the 80s and 90s area.
Pop has a standard value resort lineup of activities. The list doesnt run deep, but it would fill an afternoon.
We dont often highlight fitness opportunities around the resorts, but Hourglass lake between Pop Century and Art of Animation is a great route to run or walk. Its a 1.2 mile loop with some great views. Along the way, youll see signs with fun facts about the different decades.

Disney Costs Staying On
In November 2018, we stayed on-site in Disneys cheapest resort, All Star Music, for six nights including five full days in the main parks.
Other than some granola bars we brought with us, we ate all our meals in the Disney parks and also indulged in a couple of alcoholic drinks a day .
We spent a total of $2449 for two people which is $204 per person per day, nearly double what we spent staying off-site.
Heres how our on-site Disney World budget for two breaks down per person per day:
- Hotel and Tickets $139.50
- Alcohol $17
- Gifts and Souvenirs $9
The cost of the hotel and tickets was a package we booked direct from the Disney website for six nights which included a discount on tickets.
Transport is free for resort guests so we didnt rent a car. Note that from 2022, Disneys Magical Express bus from the airport will no longer be available, so transport to the parks will be an additional cost .
We booked our trip seven weeks in advance and had to pay a $200 deposit initially and the balance one month before.
I go into greater detail about the costs of different aspects of a Disney trip below.
Cost Of A Trip To Disney World Dining
For this trip, we are going to use a family of 4 with two adults and two children for the average price to go to Disney World. For dining expensive, the Disney Dining Plan is no longer being offered we unfortunately cannot price out dining to an exact amount. Guests have Quick Service and Table Service restaurants to choose from when dining inside the Disney parks and resorts. This Walt Disney World trip example is going to be a 4 day, one park per day experience.
We are going to price out the average cost of one quick service and one table service meal per day.
Quick Service Average $15 per person
Table Service Average $39 for adults, $23 for children
Total average dining cost per day : $184 for one quick service and one table service meal for a family of four per day
Total dining cost for 4 days : $736
*These prices can change dramatically if you choose to only eat one meal at the park or resort a day and opt for grocery delivery or Orlando area restaurants.
