Amtrak To Disney World Package

What Are The Options For Riding The Auto Train

What’s Hot with Amtrak Vacations for 2018! (1.10.18)

One important thing to know about the Auto Train is you cannot ride it without a vehicle. But you do have options:

Coach Class Seat

The least expensive ticket, starting at $89 per passenger, one-way. You get a seat and sleep in it. The seat reclines much farther than typical airline or rail seats, and there is a nice-sized footrest, allowing you to stretch out. The bathrooms are shared and there are no showers in coach.

Roomette

  • Roomette interior
  • Attendant making up the beds

The cheapest sleeper room option is called the roomette. Its a tiny cabin with two seats facing each other, bordered by two large windows and a sliding door. The lower seats form one of the two beds in the roomette the other is an overhead, Murphy-type bed that is lowered to make a bunk bed.

Our family traveled in two roomettes located directly across from each other. The seat in our second roomette was empty, and we didnt have to pay for it. Marco chose to be alone and loved having his own little man cave, which gave us some rare and cherished alone time in the other roomette.

The roomette reminded me of our camper van. The feel of a well-engineered, cozy compartment where nary an inch is wasted. Very modular, very German.

When considering this, remember that you only need to pack for one night.

Roomettes are equipped with:

Heres a little video I shot of our car, including the roomette bathroom and shower.

Best Amtrak Vacations And Scenic Train Rides In North America

People of all ages will love these magical train vacations.

The Hogwarts Express. The Polar Express. Thomas the Tank Engine. Fictional though they are, these and other scenic train rides often inspire kids to dream about train vacations. And while real-life train trips might not take you to that famous school for witchcraft and wizardry, Amtrak vacations and other North American scenic train rides can be just as magical for families. A rail vacation offers families an opportunity to unplug from their day-to-day routines, slow down, and reconnect with each other, says Heather Leisman, President of Vacations by Rail. Train vacations also allow everyone in the family an opportunity to see and appreciate the scenery while leaving driving to someone else. Families can relax in their seat or private cabin, spread out in one of the lounge cars for a different perspective on the passing scenery, and enjoy delicious meals in the dining cars, Leisman adds.

Tips From Themouseforless Readers

Getting Upgrades: The price of the sleeper upgrade goes up and DOWN as much as $150 or so. The price fluctuates depending on supply and demand. If there are available rooms, one might be able to get a sleeper room upgrade on the train itself. Watch the price daily and be ready to book it. You should also leave a tip for the sleeping cars attendant. If you do get the room upgrade, that means you ride first class, which if you wait at NY Penn or Washington Union Station, you can take advantage of the Acela waiting lounge. Inside the lounge, they have internet access, complimentary beverage and snacks.

Coming from the North, the stops are Deland-Winterpark-Orlando-Kissimmee. Its 45 minutes between Deland to Winterpark, and another 1/2 hr from Winterpark to Orlando. The longest 1/2 hr of the trip. Between Winterpark and Orlando, you will pass Church St Station where a preserved old steam type passenger train. When disembarking, they give you a 10 minute warning and line you up to exit the train quickly.

Another thing worth mentioning, dont drink the tap water, just like youre not supposed to drink the tap water on the plane.

In the sleeper cars, they also have complimentary bottled water, coffee, and juice. Hire a car service rather than renting a car unless you are planning on using a rental car on your vacation.

No Need For A Rental Car

Amtrak Silver Meteor 98

Some people used to prefer renting a car from the Orlando airport and driving to Disney World. While a car provides a little more freedom, it is also pretty expensive!

Parking is convenient but expensive!

For example, consider the cost of the rental car itself, gas, and theme park and hotel parking fees it adds up quickly! With the high-speed train, guests might not need a rental car anymore.

Parking at Walt Disney World

Its still unclear how the pricing will work out for a train ride from the airport to Disney Springs, so its hard to weigh the difference at this point. Either way, some people might prefer to have someone else worry about the driving while theyre on vacation! We could see the new train being a popular option for those larger travel groups, like school bands, dance groups, and sports teams. With a train, you wont have to worry about all of your travel parties getting in the same car, van, or bus. There will be plenty of room to keep everyone together.

It will be nice to have another option for guests to get to Disney World from the airport, and were excited to review all of the details as theyre released. We still have a ways to go before the train is fully operational, but well be sure to keep you updated with progress updates! In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned for all the latest Disney news!

Reaching the Most Magical Place on Earth is about to get a little easier, thanks to a new deal signed between Walt Disney World Resort and passenger rail operator Brightline.

On Monday, Nov. 23, Brightline announced that it had reached an agreement with Walt Disney World Resort to open a new train station at Disney Springs, an area located just outside the Disney parks and filled with restaurants and shops. Though Disney Springs isnt located inside any of the four theme parks that make up Disney World, the parks can be easily accessed from the area using the resorts transportation network.

Rail Transport In Walt Disney Parks And Resorts

Yes, in one way or another I have always loved trains.

Walt Disney

Rail transport can be found in every theme park resort property owned or licensed by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, one of the four business segments of the Walt Disney Company. The origins of Disney theme park rail transport can be traced back to Walt Disney himself and his personal fondness for railroads, who insisted that they be included in the first Disney park, the original Disneyland in California in the United States, which opened on July 17, 1955. The Disney tradition of including transport by rail in, and adjacent to, its parks has since been extended to other Disney properties with the opening of Walt Disney World in Florida in the United States, Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan, Disneyland Paris in France, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort in China, and Shanghai Disney Resort in China. The Disney theme park chain is the largest on the planet by annual attendance with over 155 million visitors in 2019, and the rail systems located inside its properties play key roles as modes of transportation and as attractions for its visitors.
